How do you tell if a game is sharked?

I was at my local Pokemon tournament, and someone was there who was trying to complete his Pokedex on the game, and he said he didn't care about the Pokemon themselves. I traded him a Typhlosion, as he needed that line, and he traded me a shiny Lugia. Now, I looked through all his stuff and none of his items and Pokemon seemed abnormal in any way.

What are the odds of the Pokemon being a product of GS/AR? And how can I tell?

And if anyone needs to know, it was traded to my Emerald version.

Theoretically, yes, but I doubt it. But isn't there some island you find Lugia and Ho-oh on in the games? Or can no one get to that yet?

Well, it was traded onto my Emerald. Dunno what version the Lugia was on originally.

Ya I think it is modded, unless you can catch Lugia in Saffron City and no one told me :(
