Yea, so, after buying a starter and a booster, we've all decided that this game is to expensive to play on a consistent basis. I'm quitting DBM. I'm playing YGO and probably pick up The Spoils as a side game.

its a new game, you have too get people intrested to get players. i was thinking of introduceing it to my chess club teacher....
anyway, i live in the middle of no-where land (about an hour from the nearest city, 45 min to nearest wallmart, 3 hours to nearest store that holds duelmasters tourneys....)
to each his own, adiue'

How can I get people playing when the game costs so much? People don't have that kind of money to spend.

play w/ a friend, buy im a starter, get your store to sell minis for $10 a booster for the first set (explain it will get more people to play) and then they can raise the price to $15 for baxars war....
like i said, i spent a grand total of $45 on this game, and have tons of minis....(allthough i got another $45 in gifts...) but in any case- you dont need to spend tons of $$$- just enough to make a working war band....(although i plan on buying a case of BW...)

Lol, I also don't have that kind of money to shell out. I just spent $850 on a laptop + $70 on a router. This game will fail with kids 15- just because it's too expensive.

i have no problem with it, i just buy what i need, not ever figure known to mankind, and though drizer you have a point most people on the wizard boards are 20+ from the sounds of it, just a matter of how you collect really

yep (^)
i was the only person under 17 at my 1K- their were two other people around 17/18, and then the rest were 20/30-year-olds.
but yeah, i just get the figs i need, and their ya go :)
its a 'competative' game. if you want to collect and dont have the $$$$, then play for goodness sakes...

that skinda funny " i just spent $900 on a computer that will be out dated in 2 years and cant spend $45 on a fun game with cool pieces"
too each his own. acctually, if i had $900 right now, sinc ei have a puter, id get some dvds and put the rest into saveings. but since im guessing you needed a puter, to each his own....
btw- what kind is it? (xp/burner/etc)

I was in need of a new computer, my old one was 6 years old. I rather spend money on a computer that will be outdated in 2 years, than spending money on a figure game that will be outdated in 2 years.

Average current MTG deck = $500
Average current DB Warband = $100

Okay, lets take a look at the cost, seriously. I'm going to compare Magic, 'cause I know Magic, but I'm guessing YGO is pretty similar...
$100 will buy you roughly 640 Magic cards if you buy sealed boosters by the box. You need 60 cards to build one deck so your 100 bucks is giving you a roughly 10 to 1 ratio toward building your first deck.
$100 will buy you roughly 84 DreamBlade minis, if you buy sealed boosters by the case. You need 16 minis to build a warband, so you are getting a roughly 5 to 1 ratio toward your first warband.
Considered that way, this game costs about twice as much to play as Magic. What is more, you can buy a preconstructed deck for about 10 bucks and you're already on your way. In DreamBlade, you can't get started for less than a starter and a booster, to be practical. And if you are paying retail, that's going to be around $45. So, yeah, I can see how people might feel this game is expensive to play.
On the other hand, if you want to play at least semi-competitively, in either game, I honestly think Magic is going to end up costing you more. The collection is way too huge to trust to random purchasing to get the cards you need. You almost have to buy singles or make trades to get important cards. JM above, may be right about the average cost of a Magic deck, if you price the cards out for their single sale value. But odds are you won't have to pay that dollar for dollar. Still, I wouldn't be at all surprised if it ended up costing you easily over a 100 bucks to put together a quality custom deck.
One of the things DreamBlade has going for it right now is that because the strategy and luck factors are just about equal with warband construction in determining victory, you can get by with a fairly small collection and still be reasonably competitive. So where as you can't expect to become competitive in Magic for less than $100. In DreamBlade, you can make a reasonable go of it for about half that, give or take.

my vore deck cost around $80 i think it could be used as a very competitive deck, however, i recently finished it and i don't think i will be attending states
my warband cost around $41 with $16 for the starter that I got a few pieces I needed. i went to a 1k and left disappointed. =[ 4-2 with 19 people. argh, WHY DIDN'T I WIN THE LAST GAME TO TOP 4 AND WIN $100+?
I guess if the cost is bothering you, then the cost for tournaments must also be part of that? i can see where $20 for a big tournament and $5 for a small tournament would be annoying in addition to warband cost =\
the only boosters I bought were 2 baxar's war ones, i have 3 base set boosters from tournaments. :O
this game is pretty fun.
p.s. pre-baxar's war, if you play by buying singles and not using warcharms, your warband cost should be $60>
post-baxar's, no idea tbh

yeah, you should be able to e-bay a nice DHC warband for around $80, AND win *at least* 4 in a 1K.
but its not all minis- my first games were at a 1K, and my warband was ok, i just didnt know how to play very well, allthough i think i've passed that stage :D
you need to know how to play well, if you want to win..
if you have all the chess masters pieces, and dont know how to play it, you loose ;)
