I was wondering how can people be batteling like how it showed all over japan even if they are miles apart, like do you connect it to the computer or a gadget that lets you do so or something?

If you batteling in pokemon d/p you go over wi-fi. Which you might have to share a friends code to play online with friends.

As in an Intel P4 or P3? You just need wifi to be able to play.

All you need is a wireless access point and you can connect directly to the internet with the DS the same as a laptop does (although you probably wont be able to browse any web pages you will just get connected directly to a pokemon server, also some access points are not compatible with the DS however Nintendo do sell their own).
