From WizO_Tao of the WotC forums:

Alright ladies and gents, here's the deal. Wizards will be forced to raise the cost of all miniatures products effective 22 September, 2006. The prices will be as follows:

Booster Packs: $14.99
Huge Packs: $21.99

This is the direct result of global economic pressure and production cost increases (remember, plastic is an oil based substance...), though the overall costs are still competative with similar products. I doubt that anyone is really happy about the announcement (I have to buy my minis just like everyone else), but its a sad fact that everything is getting more expensive these days. Unfortunately, even the minis market is affected.

:(

This hobby is starting to get rather expensive. I may have to make a decision between Star Wars and D&D miniatures soon.

Chances are slim that I will be buying any more miniature boxes.

Looks like singles for me.

Huh... That's weird... I've been paying that price all this time. So that means that the prices are going to go up from that to like 16.99 - 24.99. What an Ass my supplier is.

Well, that's why I suggest you start buying singles off the internet. Cheaper by far, and you always get what you want. I'd say buy like 1 or 2 boosters every now and then, but purchasing singles is a wiser choice.

Are you suprised? This isn't the first time wotc has jacked up the prices of thier products, and won't be the last. This is what happens when you form a monopoly.

I know you like the game dude, but the best thing you could do right now is not buy either D&D or Star Wars miniatures, let them know if they're "forced" to raise prices, you're "forced" to not buy that overpriced merchandise.. They'll get the picture.

Well, maybe.. assuming they don't go with thier old plan, layoff a couple employees, ban a couple random forum members, sue a few fans, and have the wotc-zombies kiss thier asses..

It's not the 80s (or early 90s) anymore. D&D and Westend Game's Star Wars RPG were household names. The hobby has become an expensive one to keep up with ... and the franchise is not one that George Lucas likes to share for free (or for anything reasonable for that matter). The fact that gamers are a dying breed also means that the game publishers have to squeeze as much milk as possible from its loyal herd.

As for me ... I've got 4 cases awaiting shipment ... cheaper in bulk, and I can make up for a good portion of the cost by selling doubles online. It worked well with Champions of the Force ... I know I eneded up saving a bundle on the long run, and I quickly managed to acquire all the figures.

It's not that big of a Difference for me. Only basicaly a 1$-1.75$ increase from their Current Price. I'm still gona keep on going.

They're just greedy... usually raw materials only constitute 10% of a product's MSRP, the cost of production for these little is so miniscule given that they are so tiny that even if oil prices doubled (which it hasn't; it's only gone up 30% in the last year, and is declining for the next few months), it wouldn't justify a 10% increase in the MSRP.

but i can't stop buying... addicted too much.

oh well. just gonna buy singles online like lordjar said, but i'll still buy a booster everytime i play at my local store to support them (tho that's split between sw and heroclix).
