On the 3rd floor of the Pokémon Garden, on the Yahoo! Kids official Pokémon Diamond and Pearl website, is the GameFreak development room. In the room are virtual representations of the Battle Director Shigeki Morimoto (森本茂樹), Head of Development Jun'ichi Masuda (増田順一) and Art Director Ken Sugimori (杉森　健).

According to Jun'ichi Masuda, Shin'ō will have a large underground world.

Ken Sugimori ponders evolving Roselia, and also reveals a silhouette of a new Pokémon, revealed in full in the trailer for Diamond and Pearl, thought to be related to Electabuzz.

Shigeki Morimoto reveals that Thunder Punch will be a physical attack, while Hyper Beam becomes a special attack — physical and special are to be set by attack, rather than by type as in previous games. He states that the battle system will be changed "dramatically".

One unnamed female staff member mentions a new Pokémon she saw on Sugimori's screen — the silhouette Sugimori reveals. She also suggests that the three starter types will be Fighting, Psychic and Dark. If this were true, it is likely that the type affinity chart will be changed in order to balance the three.

Bulbanews has confirmed the attribution of the statements above. Please note that Pokémon Diamond and Pearl is still in development and the above-mentioned changes may not make it into the final version.

The underground world has been confirmed by Serebii.net. Apparently there will be some minigames involving the secret bases that can be made down there. Other than that, any effect this will have is rumor only at this point in time.

The Roselia evolution, while not 100% confirmed, may as well be if the pic is anything to go by. The Electabuzz evolution, while pretty likely, still is not confirmed either. These could very well be entirely unrelated pokemon, though I am willing to believe that for the one of Electabuzz than I am of Roselia.

The change in how attack effectiveness is calculated is effectively confirmed.

The dark/psychic/fighting starters are a false rumor. We are have fire, water, and grass types as always. Fire is a monkey, water is a penguin, and grass is based off a turtle/tortoise thingy. We have Japanese names confirmed at Serebii, but anything other than that is nothing but conjecture.

While it is likely that the penguin starter becomes part ice, and the monkey could become part fighting or possibly even normal (which would be REALLY nice if it got rid of the water weakness), and the grass turtle will become either ground or poison, though that is just a guess. It is HIGHLY unlikely that any will become steel or dark, though the turtle is a contender for Crunch, which is a dark type move...

The Penguin will be Water/Flying, even though Penguins dont fly.. that doesnt stop Gyarados from getting it. Give it decent Attack and Swords Dance and Ill be happy.

It'd be best to make Pocchama into a Ice/Flying type as it levels up. It's first starts out as a water type, then a water/flying, then a flying/Ice.

Gamefreak still hasn't come out to the public about totally killing the idea of the Fighting/Psychic/Dark types. Even though I highly doubt the starters will evolve into this respective types, it's still a possibility.

the underground stuff is also interesting...you can now play some kind of capture the flag game, as well as hunting for fossils...very intriguing.

Well, when you think about it, look back on past games, and previous pokemon.

The fire monkey can become fire/fighting. Blaziken with flaming diareah.

The penguin can become water (or later ice)/dark. It's very possible, look at Emerald's Ice Elite 4 person.

The Naetoru leaf guy, well think along the lines of psychic and grass. I mean, they might have wanted to do that so that they can have more people pick him, since most people pick fire, then water.

That's just the most logical way I could put it.

There is no way in heck that tortoise is gonna be part psychic. Unless you have videotaped your conversation with Gamefreak, it just ain't gonna happen. Deal with it.

Hey, it could evolve into it, you never know. I mean, look at Caterpie. Same basic thing, it could become a part psychic. Dustox too. Or at least, share common moves.

That would be very interesting.

That would work out since the other starter always kills yours.

It will also work out with the double types because you get 2 rivals{right?} so they will have somewhat an advantage on you.
