View Full Version : Effect Chains...Backwards Order?

In the rules book it says that when you enter battle and attack, you may use a jutsu card. When your opponent uses a jutsu card afterward this creates a "chain" and you continue until neither player has any more jutsu cards they wish to play. It then says that you then resolve the effects in reverse order. What? How can that be so?
The means if somebody played something that raised a ninja's combat number then the opponent played something like Sharingan Eye, the person who played Sharingan Eye is screwed. This is because if you resolve it in reverse order, the effect of Sharingan Eye would take place before the other jutsu card would have been effectively put into play. Therefore, there is no card to negate. This also doesn't make any sense because a card like this requires a target card. By resolving in reverse order the card now effectively has no card to target and is, therefore, not playable.
This has the same effect for cards that, say, bring somebody's combat to zero such as Sexy Jutso. If somebody were to play that card after his opponent played a card that increased his ninja's combat, it would make complete nonsense to have done so. That means that the effect of Sexy Jutsu occurs, then the jutso that increases the target ninja's combat. Useless. Could somebody explain, please?

Somebody on the Bandai boards explained this very well:
"It's like if I was going to poke you in the eye. You'd block it with your hand, right? You're not going to let me poke you in the eye, THEN try and block my finger."
Say your Kakashi Hatake [No Effect] was battling against my Zabuza Momochi [Demon of the Cloud Village]. You play Fire Style: Fire Ball Jutsu (1 damage to any Ninja that doesn't have a "Flame" attribute), but I respond with Water Style: Giant Vortex Jutsu (return all Ninja to their owner's hand). Mine would come first because I'm responding to your attack, therefore your Fire Ball Jutsu never gets off because Kakashi isn't there anymore.
There's also the "resolving" thing. Say your Sasuke Uchiha [No Effect] is battling against my Naruto Uzumaki [No Effect]. You play Cross-Shaped Shuriken on Sasuke (+3/+0), but I respond with Escape Jutsu (negate any additions/subtractions to the target's power), but then you chain to a Kunai. Kunai would resolve, then my Escape Jutsu would, thus making Kunai and the following Cross-Shaped Shuriken useless. However, if you would have let my Escape Jutsu resolve, you could play the Kunai in a NEW chain, giving Sasuke +2/+2.
Hope I didn't confuse you more. o_0

actually I think you messed up on that one a little
I remember reading that escape jutsu only works for what has been used before it.
but for the reverse order thing think like this
activation order
1.1st card played
2.card played in response to 1st card
3.card played in response to 2nd card
resolution order
3.card played in response to 2nd card
2.card played in response to 1st card
1.1st card played
with what you asked about sharingan eye here is how I would look at it
sharingan activates and your ninja "sees" the jutsu coming and negates it
hope that helps you

Its just like in YuGiOh. Whatever was played last goes off first. Cards like Escape Jutsu and Sharingan Eye go off first, but that part of the chain was activating one of the two. Its hard to explain, but if you play YGO, its just like that...
Omg, Mystikswordsmanlv13 has 666 post!!!
Anywayz, to clarify some of you concerns.
You may allow jutsu's on a chain to resolve and start a new chain. You can start as many new chains as you want. Therefore if someone played sexy jutsu on your ninja, you can simply let that resolve first and then use a combat pump.
As for the Sharingan question, things are a little different with Negate Effects. Negating a Jutsu basically takes the jutsu being targeted out of the chain once the Negating Effect (i.e Sharingan) resolves.

Correct you are Green Lantern. Just as a little added bonus if anyone was wondering, the negated jutsu does not go to the chakra zone. after being "negated", it is discarded.
Well, it depends on the card really
Sharingan says discard
Hidden Mist Jutsu saids return to hand
