what are effort points and how much does 10 vitamins help the pokemons EV's?
wobmaster
02-16-2004, 05:15 AM
EPs (effort points)are hidden values a poke gives you when you defeat it. 4EPs=1EV(effort value[effort level])
1 vitamin increases 10 EPs (2 1/2 EVs)so 10 increases 100 EPs (25 EVs)
dont you miss the part of the message board that tells you who is currently logged on? i like to see if there is anyone who might reply to me. currently, there is 1 logged on, (right now)(not when your reading this, when im writing it)but i dont know if he/she is capable of making an intellegent answer.

I've already posted to you several times, on different threads including your own, that you need to read the Help thread's Trainer's Checklist. You have repeatedly asked question after question that has already been answered there.
This is the last time I'm going to mention this to you. I mean it. :mad:

go to CP options its somewhere on that
wobmaster

Go to User CP, then on the left side of the screen, click on Options. scroll down and you'll see Number of Posts Per Page. Click on the drop down menu, then select the amount you want. Scroll to the bottom, then select Save Settings. Exit and re-enter the message board and the format will probably change.

Go to the main page that lists all of the forums including the pokemon boards. At the bottom of that page you'll see a list of who is currently logged on.
If you look at a particular board, you'll be able to see the number of posters that are viewing that forum . I like that feature.
Edit: BT Challenge Update: Well I started breeding tonight. Who knows how long that'll take since I have to breed for all three pokemon. I was looking at all of the moves they can learn and this is going to be real tough. To think I'm actually trying to breed a killer Luvdisc. ROFL.

By the Rare Berry phrases, you said that the phrases using Lati@s are version-specific, while they can actually be used in the other version, as long as you've seen the other Lati@s(Southern Island/Trade).

I don't know what you mean by 'pokemon 2'. Are you saying there is a category called pokemon2 in the vocabulary for sayings? I only have the 'pokemon' category, and I've done everything in the game on that cart.

Anyone else getting messages that there are some 'slight problems with the database' when they try to enter this site ot post sometimes? I've been getting that more and more and it is starting to get real annoying.

That coems up atleast 20 times each day. Try refreshing on the page and/or refresh above your toolbar. Usually if this doesnt work I X out of the screen and re-open IE and then try it again.
And yes there is a Pokemon 2 category.

I have huge EV troubles
I got a beldum and i want to max out its attack. It is now level 8 because i trained it 3 levels. each battle was against either a wurmple or poochena to raise attack/defense. I have went aginst 32 wurmples. so 32 EP. /4=8EV's but no it doesnt work. Its attack was 12 at level 5. Now its attack is 15 at level 8. the attack increased by 3 stats after growing 3 levels. It should of went up by 8 but why doesnt it.When do i see the stats building up?
Linzoy
02-19-2004, 08:33 AM
It just doesn't work that way, but it makes a big difference in the end. I raised by beldum to lvl 50 with rare candies before ev training, wrote down the stats, and shut it off without saving. When I finished its training there was a huge difference. I forget exactly what metagrosses attack was without training, but it was at least 20 points lower than what it is now.
shineyaltaria
02-19-2004, 08:58 AM
The higher the level of your pokemon during EV training, the larger the increase you will see when it grows to the next level. It is normal to get double-digit increases once they get up to a higher level. It is even possible to get increases like +50 or more if you start to EV train at a really high level (like over Lv 80 or something).
So nothing is wrong. It's just the way it works.
BT Challenge update; I'm breeding for my luvdisc, nosepass, and shedinja now.
Venusaur1
02-19-2004, 10:24 AM
So you find out the difference once its maxed?
Linzoy
02-19-2004, 11:40 AM
You might want to add this somewhere... On all the lists of egg groups I've read, they have electrode and registeel in the same group (no eggs) but there should really be two groups for genderless pokemon; ditto group and legendary group. Most of the pokemon in the no eggs group can breed with ditto. Pokemon that can't breed with ditto: articuno, moltres, zapdos, mewtwo, mew, entei, suicune, raikou, lugia, ho-oh, celebi, regirock, regice, registeel, latios, latias, kyogre, groudon, rayquaza, deoxys, jirachi.
I've only tested ditto on metagross, solrock, mewtwo, celebi, lugia, registeel, and latios, but I think it's safe to assume my theory is right without testing every single genderless pokemon.

why are these pokemon called none if they can breed with ditto? Is this something Nintendo messed up on?
Linzoy
02-19-2004, 04:33 PM
Nintendo messes up a lot, but I haven't seen any non-nintendo breeding charts that mentian ditto can breed with any non-legendary either. My guess is that everyone who challenged the idea that ditto can't breed with anything in the no eggs group tried a legendary, and when it didn't work they assumed none of the "no eggs" pokemon could breed. I just assumed ditto could breed with everything, without looking it up, and I wanted more beldums.

A week?!?!? That long? Crap. It changed in 'only' 3 days for me I think.
Oh well, I guess that this is just one thing that we won't be able to predict. About the only helpful thing I found is that it doesn't seem to change twice within a day or so.
Venusaur1

Had to dig this post up. I was able to get 3.
Ok i am a tiny bit confused for the most part i think im finding out the mystery here.
Today when i turned on ruby it was an auto phrase Age I've Arrived (they picked it) i changed it to "Azurill BodyGuard".I tried chaning it 8 timesthen i shut it off (withotu saving). I turned it back on went there again and the saying was Still "Age I've Arrived" i tried to change it to "abra aron" but it then said i personally like "Age I've Arrived" more. Then a few more tries then it accepted "Air Lock ALT. Color". -Im still working on this
-Now it let me do "Beatiful Beauty"
-Also "Apologize Appreciate"
My Theory is
_______________
chose 2 words or phrases from each of the following topics:
Pokemon, status , greetings, voices, endings, conditions, lifestyle, time, adjectives, trainer, battle , people, speech, feelings, actions, hobbies, MISC., and trendy saying. I think the trendy saying coems from a random topic each time. So some1 please try this out because im 80% sure this works because i have run some tests and it worked for me. So pick 2 words for each topic and keep tryign to change them going in any order of topics if this is random out of those topics then maybe this will work.
shineyaltaria
02-20-2004, 04:16 PM
The reason I was interested in this was for finding Feebas. I was thinking that if we could have a predicatable interval of time to do our search then that would be helpful (like if we knew it wouldn't change again for xx hours or xx days).
But I guess that regardless of how/when it changes, the best thing to do when trying to find Feebas is to change the saying before fishing and keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn't auto change until you've found the darn thing.

There is a list of locations for selected items. Just look in the table of contents to see where. (choice band is one of them along with the other BT prizes).
Many of you probably already know this but I'll say it again. I will not put anything having to do with helping cheaters on this thread. Neither will I start ranting again about how I am against cheating, even in games. So if you are a cheater, as far as I am concerned, you can go to one of the sites that specialize in that. 'nuff said.

02-22-2004, 02:15 PM
Lol. I'm not making a lot of progress so far, I haven't even decided on the movesets I want, and I haven't started calcuating ivs. I used rare candies to get a random nosepass, shedninja, and luvdisc to level 50, and I'm trying different attacks with them. When I start training the pokemon I am actually going to use I'll train them all at the same time.

BTW, I was fighting the reporters to get up to Lv 50 and guess what? They stopped moving!!! You know how they go between the 3 locations? Well, for some reason, they are 'stuck' just below the desert area the last few times I battled them and they are NOT moving anymore. Maybe I fought them so many times that they're tired now LOL.
This ever happen to anyone else?

Does anyone here think it would help to go in a designated area for a few minutes then shut it off and turn it back on and try it again? well, i found out that you can only get explosion as an egg move on nosepass, so im right where i started, exept for the fact that i now have 5 nosepass... back to breeding with everyone... :(
right...can golem learn explosion? geodudes are rare and i dont want to catch another if i dont have to...

02-27-2004, 10:17 PM
I caught a male graveler on Victory Road (rock smash) and it was like lv 38 or something and then I raised it until it had both EQ and Explosion, then bred it with a female Nosepass. Both moves were passed. Explosion came in real handy too.
Main Statistic Formula:
Stat = Math.Floor(
(( BaseStat * 2 + IV + Math.Floor( EV/4 ) ) * Level/100 + 5 ) * P )
HP Statistic Formula:
HP uses a slightly different formula. To calculate your Pokémon's HP at any given time, use this formula:
HP =( BaseStat * 2 + IV + Math.Floor( EV/4 )) * Level/100 + 10 + Level)
IVs Formula for AT, DF, SpDf, SpAt, SP
Here is the formula for calculating your IV given the base stat, the actual value of the statistic, the effort value and the personality value (for non-HP stats). All you have to do is plug in the values.
IV =(( Math.Ceiling( Stat/P ) - 5 ) * 100/Level ) - 2 * BaseStat - EV/4
IVs Formula HP
Here is the formula for calculating the HP IV.
IV = (( Stat - Level - 10 ) * 100/Level ) - 2 * BaseStat - EV/4
Edit: Both Golem and Graveler learn Explosion at Lv 53, and EQ at Lv 45.

Thanks for your response, Fallen Ronin. No, no disk, and never any cheating or sharking either. The only thing I ever did other than just play regular was last summer when the Nintendo staff loaded in the Eon ticket so I could catch Lati@s. It was a special promotion with ToysRus. So yeah, it is a glitch of some kind. I don't really give a sh$t since it is on my sapphire cart and I restart that like all the time. Main Statistic Formula:
Stat = Math.Floor(
(( BaseStat * 2 + IV + Math.Floor( EV/4 ) ) * Level/100 + 5 ) * P )
should i use this formula, and if so, do i use the stat in place of IV?
HP Statistic Formula:
HP =( BaseStat * 2 + IV + Math.Floor( EV/4 )) * Level/100 + 10 + Level)
same thing:do i lugin the stat in IV?
IVs Formula for AT, DF, SpDf, SpAt, SP
IV =(( Math.Ceiling( Stat/P ) - 5 ) * 100/Level ) - 2 * BaseStat - EV/4
should i use this formula, or the first one?
IVs Formula HP
IV = (( Stat - Level - 10 ) * 100/Level ) - 2 * BaseStat - EV/4
this one or the one above?
sorry, but i got a bit confused(wobmaster hurt himself in his confusion)

It depends on what you are calculating.
If you want to figure out IVs then use the correct IVs Formula. For AT, DF, SpDf, SpAt, SP just use:
IV =(( Math.Ceiling( Stat/P ) - 5 ) * 100/Level ) - 2 * BaseStat - EV/4
For HP IVs, use the other IVs formula.
I included the stats formulas just in case you may need that too.
Math Floor and Math Ceiling are for rounding results.
All of this, including detailed explanations and examples of using them, is in the Advanced Trainer's Guide on the pokefor.tk site.
Edit: Wobmaster snapped out of confusion :D

((ceiling(stat /P)-5)*100/level)-2*basestat-EV/4

*100)/level

Actually, it's an increase of (EV/4)*level/100, if I am not mistaken. You couldn't feed a level five Pokemon ten vitamins and expect a 25 point increase. It DOES EVENTUALLY equal an increase of EV/4 at level 100, but if you're stopping at level 50 for BT, you'll only get half of that.

thanx 4 that great helper SA, i actually just found that myself by entering the points into pokefor's IV calc and getting no speed IV (thats blank, not 0)
EDIT: um, i probably just mucked up, but having divided all the effort values by 4, i actually managed to get all blank EVs!!! so i guess ill just do it again, i was only wondering if, when u say that doing levels lower thatn 12 gives bogus results, does that mean start at at least level 12, or finish at at least 12?
shineyaltaria
03-01-2004, 12:43 PM
The higher the level of your pokemon, the more accurate the results from the IV caluculator. According to the Advanced Trainer's Guide, your results won't be very reliable for pokemon until they are Lv 12 or higher.
As far as entering your EVs here's an example: If you maxed out Speed with 252 effort points then you would put "63" in the speed effort values column (252 divided by 4 = 63). Hope that helps.
Be sure to enter the correct pokemon and nature too!

No. I've played the game at least 6 or 7 times on this cart but never saw this glitch before. The difference is I fought the reporters a lot more times in this game compared to previous games, so maybe that has something to do with it. My guess is that if you battle them a certain number of times, they stop moving between locations.
I haven't been playing lately but maybe I'll restart and see what happens just for grins. Everything should be reset and they should move again. I think that getting the glitch to repeat might be the hard part.

Be aware that almost all the Lati@s I've caught have absolutely lame IVs, with most having as many as 4 IVs of zero. IDK why this is but it is true. And I've seen other posters say the same so it isn't just my cart. So there is every reason to think you actually did things right. Just because you get lower numbers than you'd ever seen before, it doesn't mean you are wrong. Fact is you probably checked it right. But if you still want, I'll double check the IVs for you. You'll need to PM me all of the data.

Cooltrainer Josh; I'll put in that Tip too. You are right about the spelling. I decided to just keep it the same as my old pojo account when I registered for this board.
The words 'shine', 'shined', and 'shines' all have the 'e', but inexplicably the word 'shiny' drops it. Also, shininess is correct (they turn the 'y' into an 'i') and the past tense of shine can also be 'shone'.
Oh, one other thing. Believe it or not the word 'poopie' is also not in the Dictionary...yet. LOL

Perhaps your day doesn't change while it is nighttime. It may change at, for example, 2:00 P.M. Try saving in the morning and Lottery picking in the afternoon. The problem is that you won't be able to save before afternoon.
Check your game's time in relation to real time to see when the day changes.

this probably sounds stupid, but i never have done EV training before, does the MachoBrace effect Vits? cos i can only afford 5 Proteins :( (early-ish game)
Last night I made this long reply to you, hit submit, and then the site went down! :mad:
Anyway, macho brace doubles effort points. Vitamins give 10 effort points each. The thing is that you want to give vitamins first since your pokemon won't eat them after you get 100 effort points in a stat. So vitamins cut down on your training time. If you didn't give any you could just battle and still reach the cap (it would just take longer).
Remember that Zigs (zigzagoons) can pick up valuable things, including proteins and nuggets, so you may want to always keep several in your party.
I had one of my pokemon hold the macho brace to see if it would still eat 10 vitamins (100 effort points) and it did. So holding it does not double the effect of the vitamin.
Edit: I found out that if you fight the reporters enough (like 500 times) they will 'freeze' in one spot and stop moving between the 3 locations anymore (but you can still battle them over and over). Thanks to Good Sir HR for this info. So it wasn't just my cart. It's just what will happen in the game.
Also, I've played around with this "Alt Color ______" thing to see if I can get another Shiny but so far haven't had any luck at all. If anyone else has tried this on this board please post results here. Thanks. SA.

Cooltrainer Josh; Yeah I saw that about it only being physical on serebii site too (I think in the new LG/FR section somewhere).
Sashiwa; The 6 tiles are random. They change randomly, based on you changing the trendy saying in Dewford town. Also, the 6 tiles can just be changed randomly on its own after a certain period of time goes by (like a few days). If you ever find a tile with Feebas, catch as many as you can (minimally get a female or two for breeding).
It can take hours and hours just to fnd one of the tiles and takes a great deal of patience unless you just happen to luck out.
Got Patience?
Got PokeBalls?
Got Aspirin?
Betelgeux
03-19-2004, 04:49 PM
They're randomly selected each time you change the trendy phrase on Dewford Island. You just have to fish in each of the squares on Route 119 until you find one. Once you do, be sure to get a female one to save yourself the trouble of searching again.

I've got a few questions about Jirachi's Serene Grace ability. I understand that it will make attacks like Water Pulse have a doubled chance of their added effects, ie confusion or paralysis, or boosting or lowering a stat, ie psychic and lowering spdef. But what about attacks with a high critcal hit rate (i dont think Jirachi has any, but what about regular critical hits?) Or items that give added bonuses, such as the king's rock? Will the chance of flinch be upped to 20? What about the Scope Lens?

Hmmm, good question. I finally got a Jirachi now but haven’t trained it or played with it yet, but maybe someone around here had and knows the answer to your question.
My guess is that the ability works regardless of what item is held, and the effect of the hold item also remains. This would mean we could possibly boost any effect where a move and a hold item work to do the same thing. Like having a move like Double Team or sand attack while also holding an item that lowers accuracy (or ups evasion) for example. There are probably better examples but you get my drift. Again, it’s only a guess (sorry).

I think when FR/LG are released, Pojo will put up a new forum, so it'd probably be best for someone put up a new help thread there, (please don't feel obligated to do this yourself, shineyaltaria) and maybe overlapping stuff applying to both games (like IVs, EVs, etc.) could be posted in a different section, while in this help thread you might explain how to transfer, etc.

btw cooltrainer josh,
i released my wailmer and it didnt have dive, and it came back to me with the same phrase. explain that. i think that any poke that:
a) loves you;
b) keep in your team often; and/or
c) use as an hm slave,
will come back.
I don't know about that. I believe it's only if he has Dive and no-one else does. Try this:Save, then catch a Tentacool and teach it Dive. Then, release all your other Pokemon with Dive. Try to release Tentacool now, and I'd bet all my 'Whatever currency is used in Pokemon land' that it won't go. And it's only Dive, not Fly, so Tropius not coming back doesn't surprise me in the least.

Thanks, Fallen Ronin, I just tried again and got in. Looks like he's redesigned the whole site again (he does this regularly).
I caught a shiny Sableye (modest female) two nights ago and wanted to check its IVs before I did anything with it. I've seen it posted that shinies have all IVs of 21 or something and wanted to check that out. (This is the first shiny I've run into and caught since like last summer when I first started playing R/S but then I didn't know about IVs yet and I trained my shinies without ever checking their IVs).
What I found was that the 'shinies have all the same IVs' is NOT true. Here's what I got out of the IV calc at pokefor:
My shiny Sableye's stats and IVs are:
HP=119 iv=28,29
AT=74 iv=13,14
DF=90, iv=28,29
SA=86 iv=25,26
SD=74 iv=14,15
SP=67, iv=30,31
I believe that it is still true IVs determine shininess in some way, but the actual IVs are not all the same number for each stat, like I have seen posted, at least for this particular shiny pokemon.
Kuiper

Yeah, in RS, IVs and shinyness work indepentantly of each other. In GSC, shiny Pokemon all had DVs of 10, which is why you couldn't breed two shinies (the system assumed they were related and relations couln't breed) and a shiny Ditto increased your chances of getting shiny offspring.

Do you mean the Tentacool went, or it didn't ? Perhaps it is one random HM in each game. Try having only one Pokemon with each HM and try to release them all.

I was searching up answers and under the updates pages on pokefor, I found that some other ppl were facing the same problems, so they reached the conclusion that some you cannot release because it would strand you in some parts of the game. I found some problems with this however,
- people were seeing this with Dive and Dive doesn't strand you, well prohibits you from going underwater, plus you cant release a diver when you're using Dive
- I tried re-releasing my Wailmer and it did not come back, so the game a) does not recognize Wailmer as stranding me or b) the idea that stranding is impossible
- the game provides opportunites to lose your strandedness, for instance, fishing will result in the comeback of surf/dive/waterfall etc.
- there is no single place in the game where you will remain totally isolated (only through trading I guess this could happen - but then again I haven't tested this [i.e.: trading a surfer after beating Norman (not talking to Wally's parents), winding up in Pacifidlog then trading/releasing the surfer])
As for the Tentacool business; I had caught one, taught it Dive and released it, and it went happily along. I really do not want to test out having only one poke for each HM and release them all, I am way too lazy.

You have a 50% chance of getting either male or female swablu. So if you keep breeding, you should notice a more equal distribution.

You can't be stranded by releasing an HM Pokemon because you can only release/trade Pokemon in a Pokemon Center, not in the wild. The reason behind the HM no-release thing must be something else.

EV question: if you are level 3 and gain a ev point, and get half exp, if you battle again and get the EV point. will you get 2 EV points in lvl 3 or one in lvl 3 and 4?
I'm not exactly sure what your question is---
You earn Effort points depending on what species of pokemon you battle, not what level your pokemon is at the time. As a general rule, the higher the level of your pokemon, the greater the number increase in a stat you'll see when it gains the next level.
Lower level pokemon do not show much growth in other words, even though they are earning the Effort. So the level of your pokemon can effect When you get your earned effort Applied to a stat, but does not change the fact that you have earned it.
Why is this? I've never seen anyone really explain it. Here's what I think though:
I think this is because there seems to be a minimum and maximum for each pokemons stat for each of their levels. If you've earned more than the max in that stat for that pokemons new level, the remaining unapplied effort will be applied to a future level.
For example, let's say we have a Swablu that has earned 16 points in speed. 16 divided by 4 = 4 Effort levels, so we've earned a +4 increase in speed when we gain the next level. So far so good?
Now let's say that the minimum speed for a Swablu at the new level is 31 and the max is 37. We were lucky and got a fast Swablu (good IV) and its speed is already 34. So when Swabby grows to the next level, she'll only be able to get +3 of the +4 increase in speed (37-34=3), with 1 point being left over to be applied next time she grows.

Rayquaza's IVs
(lv 70) Adamant
HP 21
AT 31
DF 25
SA 1

SP 14
Should I bother training it to be a physical sweeper? I've never trained a Rayquaza yet but this one looks interesting. What do you think?
scizandor04
05-26-2004, 07:45 PM
wow, train it. I would go all out on TMs to give that a good set. Brick Break, Fly/AA, Dragon Dance and another physical move would be evil. The sp. Def is good so he might be able to survive an ice beam from an game pokemon

Ok, thanks for the suggestion, WTH, I'll train it. I can give it just about any TM since I do restarts often and trade them over to my Ruby cart.

scizandor04

yeah, I forgot to mention eq. that would be the best move in the last slot. so it is something like this:

Fly/Aerial Ace
Brick Break
Dragon Dance
Eearthquake

I see they merged some of the poke forums and looked around a bit but didn't see where the COlosseum stuff went to (new gamecube games). I looked in 'other' but didn't see any of the familiar threads.Anyone know where that stuff went to?
Edit: Vet Absol; 220? I don't understand. With 252 in AT and 220 in SP that would still leave like 38 Effort points to be put in a third stat. Did you really mean 252 in SP?
bishpenguin
05-27-2004, 10:54 PM
Odd that they never came out with a third version to compliment R/S though, like they did with the first two generations.
i dunno if you care, but i would like to share my theory on the third versions of each of the generations.
Both Yellow and Crystal offered
A) new trainers/partners/characters
B) new plot twists
C) version exclusive events
D) special pokemon that can only be caught with your id in the game
Colosseum's story mode fits that description:
A) you can take on the role of a new character
B) the new plot twist is that you snag pokemon in Oore
C) like Battle Tower and the Surfing Pikachu Challenge, Colosseum has Mt. Battle
D) old Johto pokemon can be caught with the new character's id
So Colosseum is the third complement to r/s since it fits all of the descriptions of a complement. So not only does Colosseum provide the equivalent to Pokemon Stadium I and II, the story mode provides the third version that is the complement to the two main games. Makes you wonder why Colosseum wasn't dumped in here for the forum groupings...
I wonder if Nintendo is gonna make another third version complement to FRLG on Gamecube. I don't want to use it only for Colosseum.....
shineyaltaria
05-28-2004, 07:25 AM
bishpenguin; Good point about Colosseum possibly being the complement. I suppose it can be thought of that way, though I was referring to a potential third GBA/SP type version like what they did with yellow and crystal. There was a lot of talk a while ago about this on the previous board; including speculation about what it might be named (most posters thought 'emerald' would be a good name).
You wondered why the mods didn't 'dump' Colosseum in here for the new forum groupings and I guess only they know. I'm still trying to find what they did with all of those threads. Anyone have a clue where the Colosseum threads are? Were they deleted? And where do new Colosseum topics get posted to. . . "Other"?.
Vet Absol: I'm going to start training that Rayquaza, giving it AT EVs first. I'd still like to know what you meant by '220'. At this point I can only assume you meant 252 in Speed, which is what I was planning.
scizandor04
05-28-2004, 08:24 AM
I still think special attacks is a bad idea, with the 1 IV and the lowering nature, brick break should handle skarmory

05-30-2004, 08:54 PM
I'm done EV training the Rayquaza and it is evil. It has 436 attack LOL. I can't use it at BT though, so I want to move it over to Colosseum to play around with 2 on 2 at the Lv 100 tower challenge.
But first I need a partner for it. Maybe one that's ice-resistant or a levitator? Partner suggestions welcome.
Thanks to anyone who suggests a 2 on 2 partner for my Rayquaza.
Edit: I can't find my Colosseum threads on any of the boards here. I had a thread about 'Good 2 on 2 combos' that I wanted to look at again. Maybe I'll add a section like that to this thread (post #9, the R/S-Colosseum section).

About the EV distribution portion of the guide:
Sweepers generally have 252 in an attack stat, 252 speed, and 4 HP.
Low-HP-high-defense-tanks should have 252 HP, and the rest split in such a way so the defenses are even. Not necessarily 128/128, if you have a careful nature, you'll need more defense EVs than special defense EVs.
If you are not attacking, but giving consideration to speed (annoyers, Heal Bellers/Aromatherapists, etc.), 252 speed, 252 HP, and 4 defense (less confusion damage) is best.
A wall like Skarmory or Blissey should have 252 HP and 252 in their stronger defensive stat, and 4 in speed or one of the attack stats.
It also might be a good idea to mention the Leftovers threshold.
Edit: Rayquaza would probably do well with another Flyer/Levetator that can use Earthquake with Rayquaza. Something like Gyrados, maybe. Kind of like the Claydol-Flygon combo.
shineyaltaria
05-31-2004, 06:51 PM
I'm not familiar with the phrase 'leftovers threshold'. All I know is that the higher your HP, the more it seems to recover. Are you referring to a maximum amount? Just let me know and I'll be glad to include it along with all of your fine EV distribution suggestions.
I'll probably do a Thread Update sometime soon for this, plus I'm seriously thinking of adding a short section about 2 on 2 battling to the R/S/PC post, especially since we do not have a dedicated PC forum anymore it seems.
=====
Thanks for the partner idea. Yeah, I agree that Gyarados would be a fine choice. I got one with HP:Flying but ironically did not distribute its EVs optimally (I know, Duh) so I may just just go and breed/train another one.
Kuiper
05-31-2004, 07:08 PM
For every 16 HP, you recover 1 HP with Leftovers. So it is opptimal to have your HP a multiple of 16.
However, since this is the exact incrementation in which Burn and Poison do damage, it's good to have one more than a multiple of 16, so you can survive a Burn a turn longer.
For double battles, HoundoomsRevenge used this, along side Swampert:
Gyrados@Scope Lens
- Surf (2 hit)
- Earthquake (2 hit)
- Blizzard (2 hit)
- Rain Dance

leftovers threshold is because if I have 2 pokemon, one with 16 HP, and the other with 31 HP, they will both still only recover 1 HP each turn...
so by having your HP only 1 more than a multiple of 16 (so yo can survive one more turn from a Toxic/WoW) you will recover a larger percentage of HP...

I've never seen a Gyarados with a moveset like that, but am happy to give it a try. Especially since it was Good Sir HR who taught me so much about the game. Guess I'll breed/train up a new one and split the EVs between the 2 attacks since the basic idea is to just pound away.

But I've got a 2 vs. 2 strategy.
Hit a Pokemon with Flash Fire with a Fire-type attack to power it up, or hit Lanturn with Electric or Quagsire with Water attacks to heal it. The rest of the Water/Volt Absorbers resist their types, so they won't be healed much.
BTW, here are the rest of those EQ partners: Charizard, Gligar(STAB), Claydol(STAB), Solrock, and Aerodactyl. Too bad a 2-hit Swampert could kill a team like that.

2on2 strategy: if you're in a tough situation that you are desperate to get out of and have nothing to lose, explode. if you have a real passive team, then exploders could give you the extra firepower you need to win. But remember, exploding KOs the exploder and does 250 power to everyone else on the field, friend and foe alike
you can also use it when your partner is digging, flying, bouncing, diving, protecting, detecting, is a ghost, and most important, et cetera

Hey wobmaster there you are! Good to have you back here and thanks for the post.
Well I thought the 2v2 stuff was done but it looks like the next update will be to post 9 since there is more useful info about the 2v2 battling coming out and more tests to do.

Did anyone ever take the Luvdisc/Shedinja/Nosepass BT challenge besides me?
If so, please post (or send me a PM). There were several of you who said you were working on putting together that team but I didn't see anyone post how they did (maybe I missed it though, if so just let me know). Thanks.
i took the challenge, have just finished the team, and am in the BT as we speak!...or as you read...

For the 2 on 2 section, change 'Poster GyroYam says it is good to Toxic your own Pokemon with Facade+Guts' to 'poison your own Pokemon'. Poisoning yourself has the same effect and won't kill you very quickly with Leftovers. Toxic=7 turns with Leftovers;Poison=17 turns with Leftovers.

Cooltrainer Josh; I added your tip/comment directly after GyroYam's post. Thanks for posting it. This Help Thread would not be as good, nor as accurate, without your many helpful corrections and comments.
Hey, wobmaster, that's great news! I hope you kick serious butt and have some fun too. Watch out for Sceptile. He fainted my whole team and stopped my challenge cold. Good luck! I wonder what ever happened to Linzoy and vet Absol's challenge. They said they wanted to try it too.

Thank you very much ! Here's a trainer tip for in-game to put in the Help Thread:
If you save in one day in front of the lotto lady, and then turn it on in the next day, as long as you don't save you can do the lotto any amount of times. This is because the game does not have a generated number saved for that day. Just do it until you win ! Of course, it helps to have a lot of different ID numbers so that the process will go faster.

i slacked offa little in breeding and let one stat of the ones i was useing have a less than good IV... it was spde for luv, speed for shed, and speed for nose.
that didnt hold em back much, since luv usually KO'ed quick, shed inja wasn't hit by much, and nose was a tank anyway...

Cooltrainer Josh; I tried your lottery tip just now. Without saving, I played once then tried to play again but was told to 'come back tomorrow'. So I left the building and re-entered and tried to play again but got the 'come back tomorrow message' again. I flew to Fortree and then went back to Lilycove and tried a third time but still got the come back message. So I'm not sure what you are doing that is different.
EDIT: I just tried it again this morning, after saving in front of the lady last night, but I can still only play once. So it looks like the tip does not work for me.

I do believe you've got the Time Freeze Glitch ! Trade with Colosseum and the Lotto and the Berry Master et cetera should be back in no time. If you can't trade with Colosseum, maybe you can send it to Nintendo of Japan ? I heard that you had to do that in Japan to fix your cartridge.
Shiny Altaria: Your problem is most likely that you are saving in the same day. Save, wait 24 hours, and it should be working. Or, figure out when your day changes, and save before it does and turn on after. I just said originally to do it at that time because I figured most people would set their time to real time.

I saved the game in front of her late last night so it hasn't been 24 hours yet. Since I haven't played (saved) since then, I'll just wait until tomorrow morning and try again. It will definately be more than 24 hours then.
BTW I did set the game clock to the real time. I just flew home to check it and it is still correct. I miss having that watch though, like we did in S/G/C. It's kind of a pain to stop what you're doing and have to go home just to see what time it is.

OMG your clock is still accurate? Half the year the clock is wrong because of DST, and my clock is off about 34 minutes! I'm guessing it's another time glitch-related thing, the offset of the clock got erased but the error still remained. So instead of steadily creeping backward to the point where in another year it'd be off by an hour, it just stays behind that half hour.

LOL yeah it's accurate on my Sapphire cart but that's the one I'm always restarting, so not much time has passed. The Mossdeep space dude says there have been 6 launches, so that's only 6 weeks. On my Ruby cart where I never restarted, it's off by about 20 minutes.
Edit: Cooltrainer Josh; I tried again this morning but still get "please come back tomorow" after I play once.

Do you mean you saved, and then played again ? It only works as long as you don't save in the new day. This does mean you can't do anything else until after you've won if you really want to win.
EDIT:Please bring back the formulas for IV and stat calculating. I know them by heart, but others may not, and some people weren't even there on the old board.

What I meant was the Tip does not seem to work for me. I saved a few days ago in front of the lottery lady. I have not saved since. But I've tried several times to play more than once (in the same day), but it's no go. I just get the message about 'come back tomorrow'.
Has anyone else been able to use the tip successfully? Maybe I'm doing something wrong.
= = = =
I'm planning an update later this month to add some FAQs for PC to post #9. At that time, I'll also post the formulas at the end of the Trainer's Checklist (post #6).
If anyone has a FAQ related to PC that they think would be helpful to include, just post it. So far, I'm going to have these:
* How do I get Ho-oh?
* Which pokemon should I use the master ball on?
* How many Time flutes are there and which pokemon should I use them on?
I know of two errors in the Official guide and I'll post them too.
Edit: Cooltrainer Josh; Are you by any chance just shuting the game off wihtout saving for each same-day lottery try?
Cooltrainer Josh you out there?

I think the idea is that you save at 23:59 or anytime before the next day. When you restart the next day the game randomly generates the lottery number. If it is not your number then you restart, and it should generate a new number. I have never checked this so don't trust me on this, but this is how I understood it.

Ok, got it. I already knew that shutting off would allow for a lotto replay if not saved and so I thought you had come up with something entirely different.
My misunderstanding (duh).

Don't save after you've played. As long as you haven't saved ( in the same day you played) you should be able to start up and try again repetitively. I think that's why Cooltrainer said to save in front of her. . . just saves you from having to keep traveling back to the lotto lady for the re-tries.

Soft reset a GBA/SP? I'm not following that. Usually a soft reset would be restarting without powering all the way off. Is that what you mean?
I just shut the game off without saving, which I guess you could say is a hard reset since it goes completely off.
Cooltrainer Josh
07-19-2004, 01:20 PM
No, it does not.
Shiney Altaria: Yes, that's why I said to save there.
What I think he means by 'soft reset' is to press A, B, Start, and Select at the same time, which restarts from the game beginning, not from the 'Game Boy' screen you see when you turn it on.

I've never used the 'soft reset' combo you described. I just turn it on and power up. So if you press those 4 things, your game restarts from where you previously saved? (you wrote 'game beginning' but I don't think you mean doing that will begin a new game.)
Cooltrainer Josh

What I mean is the Pokemon/Nintendo/Gamefreak screen you see after the 'Game Boy' screen but before anything else.

Soft resetting prevents problems with the SP power switch, takes less time, and uses less batteries. Hard resets reset the soft RNG in Golden Sun. (And other games, but that's the one game I've found with an abusable RNG.) Soft reset is something built into the software, not the hardware, so some of the earlier games (for example, Link's Awakening) do not have the soft reset feature. Now, the soft reset button combonation is pretty much standard, as I hope the L+R+SELECT sleep feature will.
If you hold UP+B+SELECT on the title screen, you can clear your save data. In Gold and Silver (NOT Crystal) you could press DOWN+B+SELECT to reset the ingame clock (after punching in a five digit key determined by your name [case sensetive], ID number, and amount of money held [not including any left with MOM.]). This game really needed a way to reset the clock because of the inaccuracy due to the "Berry glitch."

I've decided to drop the idea of doing a PC FAQ section in post 9 since there does not appear to be any interest in that. Nobody posted any questions for it.
Cooltrainer Josh: I'll post the formulas in the next update, maybe sometime later this week.

WTH? Ok, not being familiar with 'leet', I guess I'll just put in that it means elite.
Cooltrainer Josh; Looks like I don't have the formulas anymore. I had them backed up on my 'puter along with the whole Help thread but when my hard disk broke a couple weeks ago I replaced it and had to reinstall the OS (and all of my Apps too). Anyway, I did not have any pojo stuff backed up onto aux storage. Sorry. Anyone who wants can still just get the formulas from Gamefaqs anyway so hopefully it's no big deal. Luckily, everything else 'important' on my system I did have a usable backup of.
Got backups?

This is the formula for working out your Pokemon's Att., Def., Speed, Sp. Att. and Sp. Def stats;
Posted by egervari (Gamefaqs.com)
Stat = Math.Floor(
(( BaseStat * 2 + IV + Math.Floor( EV/4 ) ) * Level/100 + 5 ) * P
)
This version is the same as before except "EV/4" needs to be rounded down
since the game can never give you "part of a stat point". Also, you'll need
to round the entire end-result down after you have multiplied it by P (which
is the Personality value) because whenever you multiply by the values .9 or
1.1, you will receive anywhere from 0 to an infinite amount of decimal places
n the end-result and that is definately no good.
I find that as long as you round the end-result, you probably don't have to
worry about rounding "EV/4" down. I don't see how it can really have a
large impression on the overall result and will most likely get rounded off
at the end anyway.
This is the HP stat formula;
Posted by egervari (Gamefaqs.com)
HP = ( BaseStat * 2 + IV + Math.Floor( EV/4 ) ) * Level/100 + 10 + Level
This is the formula for working out your Pokemon's Att., Def., Speed, Sp. Att. and Sp. Def IVs;
Posted by egervari (Gamefaqs.com)
IV = (( Math.Ceiling( Stat/P ) - 5 ) * 100/Level ) - 2 * BaseStat - EV/4
Note: It is *very* important that you round-up "Stat/P" or the formula will
produce smaller, inaccurate values.
This is the HP IV formula;
Posted by egervari (Gamefaqs.com)
IV = (( Stat - Level - 10 ) * 100/Level ) - 2 * BaseStat - EV/4
N.B. Just a reminder, when using the IV formulas, make sure the Pokemon you are testing is at Level 12 or above.
