Last night, a new Fifth Dawn preview card was revealed that will change the Standard state of the game....

Vedalken Orrey - 4

You may pay nonland cards as if they were instants

That's right, folks, instant Wrath of Gods, ravagers, viridian shamans, and sooooo much more.

This thread is to discuss if and how this lil baby's gonna change the metagame.

I personally think that it won't do much for Goblins (which don't wanna be played durin opponent's turn) or White control (cuz a vengance will kill it anyway), but Cemetary decks should love this. I think it gives Monoblack control a lil comback as u can use oblivian stone/promise of power/bartar in blood (this card might make it playable) when u need it most.

that's what i think, i'm interested to see what u guys have to say

My God... And to think that one little card that sucked becuase it was a sorcery is now completely broken.................... Hunger of the Nim! ^_^

Turn that little 1/1 Worker into a 16/1 beater. ^_^ Ready to stack damage? YOU LOSE!

end of your turn, I'm going to wrath of god...

When I saw this, I knew it was gonna get into my march deck, because that would be fun. an instant death cloud, or an instant chittering rats, the possibilities are so fun when you think about it...

This thing PROBABLY won't make a dent in T2: too much artifact hate floating around, and you'd be hard pressed to play this and live to tell about it when facing ravager, it'll just kill you too fast. Unless there is some broken combo i'm missing. U/W control might try using it, but I don't expect much.

In extended, I can see this making an impact. There is less hate floating around, and Red Deck Wins seems to be quieting down, giving this some time to set up some combos. Keeper may use it with some power sorcery draw spells (think concentrate) or of course Wrath of God. I'm just not sure what it will want to take out to make room for it...

In casual formats, this thing is going to friggin explode. I haven't done any research yet, but I'm sure there are a dozen different sorceries or creatures with nasty abilities that shouldn't be used in response to eachother. This will be broken in a few cool ways, maybe in some ways that will create something that can compete. Tog and Keeper may have a tougher time choosing when to use their draw spells, as now end-of-turn steps are fair game for creatures to come down and avoid counterspells. And casual loves combat tricks: dropping instant speed blockers is the DEFINITION of combat trick. I'm trying to think what artifacts might be fun to drop at instant speed...hmm...

It's a good card for magic. It breaks a mechanic, and when you break a mechanic, players always have fun trying to abuse it. It generates new experimentation and fun ways to play the game. It's cards like this that make me think r&d is not without hope for the future.

Most X spells (death cloud, blaze, fireball) are sorceries, and this makes them instants..... nice...

in casual, i like the idea of instant Man-o-wars. Oh, and speaking of bounce, i'd like to see the orrey's interaction with that bouncing sorcery with storm from scourge...

I think this card is a lil too good, and will prolly be broken in sum way, even if we have to wait til Kamiwaga. If the developers gave this baby symetry i think it would've been more fair.

Oh man, great idea Zhouman003. Temporal Fissure back all your lands at end of turn... ;)
