Wow, I'm ACTUALLY updating? Hell yeah :)

Downfall Chapter 2: Awaken

21XX
"This..is amazing..." The rickety voice stated. The old man's eyes lit up like stars in the sky. His mouth was open in awe, but it was unnoticeable under his long, white beard.

"What is it?" The old man asked to the air. He hobbled closer, balancing gently on his wooden cane. His purple robes dragged behind him, causing the dust from the floor to jump away, almost as if frightened. The old man reached a large pile of rubble and instantly began pulling away rocks, throwing them over his shoulder. The rocks hit the ground with a thud.

Soon, the man had completely uncovered what he had been looking at from the beginning. It was what appeared to be a boy, looking about 18 or 19, clad in dirty, cracked, blue, metallic armor. His eyes were closed.

"This..can't be a human..." The old man said, "Is it..a..robot?" He reached his hand out and touched the unconscious boy's face. It felt like skin. He began examining the boy's entire body. Soon he had come to his conclusion.

"It IS a robot." He said, with finality. "This..is awful...he could be..even better than Zero.."

"Call my name?" Someone asked for the shadows. The old man would've been startled, had he not known whom it was.

"Ah, yes, Zero. I've found someone like you. I'd like you to help me carry him to my lab." The man said, standing up. He was hoping Zero didn't hear the comment about this robot being better than him. He was so competitative.

The red, blonde-haired robot jumped from a ledge high up and landed beside the robot. "Anything you say, Doctor Cain." He dug the Light-bot from his resting place and flung him over his shoulder. Doctor Cain nodded to the red Wilybot. They both walked out of the rubble that used to be the underground laboratory of the late Doctor Light...

A Few Years Later...
There seemed to be nothing but darkness for such a long time. He thought that there'd never be anything but the darkness. However, just when he began to lose all hope of ever seeing the light, something sprang into his view.

In big, bright, white letters, a word had appeared infront of him.
Processing...
He was confused, but happy at the same time. Happy to know what light looked like. And his happiness was just enhanced when more bright words began to appear.

He was even more confused. Why were all the numbers appearing? what did it mean by 42? But he didn't have time to ponder this, as the words faded away. A slight humming noise filled his ears. Slowly, more noises flowed into his eardrums. it was indescribable buzzing at first, but slowly the noises became clear.

Voices.

"Is he awake?"
"I'm not sure. I think I was able to access his main power core this time.."
"Should I shake him?"
"No, he's very delicate, it might ruin his systems if he's not awake."

He was overjoyed at being able to hear. And, knowing he could do that, he thought he should try to see, too.

It took a little effort, but he eventually opened his eyes. Light flooded into them. It had hurt at first, but his eyes quickly adjusted. He looked around. For the first few seconds everything was nothing but a mesh of blurry colors. But, as with his hearing, his vision slowly became clear. Soon he could make out human shapes.

"Hey, he opened his eyes!"
"Really? My god, he did!"
"Can you hear me, young robot??"

Well, seeing and hearing were working right, It was time to try communication. More words appeared in his line of sight.
Communication: Talking.
Language: English
The words dissappeared. He opened his mouth. All that came out was a groan. He tried again. He struggled, but managed to make a sentence.

"Am...I...aw...ake?" He said slowly. Everyone in the room, somewhere between 2-3 hundred, was both startled and overjoyed at the same time. A bald-headed, bearded, old man walked forward, to move infront of a blonde haired man clad in red armor. The old man was smiling from ear to ear.

"Yes, you are awake, young robot!"

The blue-armored robot looked around at all the smiling faces in the room, and formed his second sentence ever, "That's...good...."

The old man bent closer to the blue robot, "My name is Doctor Cain. What's yours?"

Retrieving Files:
Name: X

"X...My name..is...X" He replied.

"Hello X." Doctor Cain said cheerfully. Even though his voice was cracked and rickety, it comforted X in a way he couldn't explain. But X had other questions he needed answering.

"What..am I doing here?" He asked, getting the hang of forming sentences.

Doctor Cain got a look on his face as if to say 'I'd thought you'd never ask.' He straightened himself and began his short recap.

"Me and my robot assistant, Zero," Zero popped his head from behind Cain,
"Yo."
Cain continued, "Found you deep underground, unactivated. I must say, you were the most sophisticated robot I'd ever seen, so I took you back to my laboratory for examination." Zero sneered a bit from behind Cain, obviously a bit miffed at him saying X was better than he.

"How long has it been since then?" X inquired.

"A few years. You were pretty banged up, so to speak. It took us quite a while to repair you."

X nodded, looking around the room, "One last question, sir.."

"Yes?" Doctor Cain said, curious as to what X could still be questioning.

"Well, you said that I was the most sophisticated robot you'd ever seen, yet I've done a scan of the room and all of the robots here have components nearly identical to mine."

"Ah, you're perceptive!" Doctor Cain said happily. "Well, after I had done an examination of you, I figured out that I could use your robotic base to make new robots of almost equal power. I've named this new breed of robots 'reploids'."

X looked at all the reploids. They were all either toting blasters or holding swords. "For what purpose did you build them? I'm sure their weaponry isn't for agricultural purposes?"

Doctor Cain chuckled. X had made a joke. But then he became totally serious, "To battle the Mavericks." He said darkly.

"The...who?" X asked.

"The Mavericks." Doctor Cain repeated. "You see, as you may have guessed, there WERE robots before you. But a virus had been spread around recently, called the Maverick Virus. It reroutes robots AI and causes them to become rogue, killing anything they can find. Humans, robots, anything."

"That's horrible!" X exclaimed.

"Indeed." Doctor Cain agreed, "That is why I made all of those you see behind me. With them, I've started the Maverick Hunters, a group of robots determined to stop the Mavericks from hurting or killing more people."

"Wow, that's really nice of you.." X said, thoughtfully.

"Yes, and I'd like you to join." Doctor Cain said calmly. This took X by surprise. If he hadn't been sitting down, he would've jumped backwards.

"M-me? But why?"

"Because, your were the original! You were the best! With you, we would have a huge upperhand on the Mavericks! Please, this isn't for fame or glory, it's to save innocent lives. Do you accept?"

X would have argued, but more words appeared infront of him.
Name: X
Weapon: Blaster
Primary Function: To Protect the Innocent

X looked up to Doctor Cain, then to everyone behind him. They were robots of all kind. Short, stubby ones, lean, graceful ones, even an inhumanly tall, bald-headed one. He looked back to Doctor Cain's pleading face.

"I...accept.." He said.

To Be Continued...
One last note: Yes, I know that Megaman and Megaman X are from Japan. I know that the Mavericks are called Irregulars and all that jazz. I simply said that X talked in English for the flow of the story. Got it?

Awsome! I was wondering when you were going to do the next chapter. One question though, if Zero is good, then why did he kill Dr. Light in the last one?

Let me provide a little backstory, in my (and other people's) version of the Catyclysm (the way all of the original megaman characters died) Zero was the one who was responsible for it. But eventually, somehow, someway, he was deactivated for probably around 30 or so years. During this process all the evil Wily virus and stuff in him had been erased, so he became good. To an extent.

Anyways, stay tuned for chapter 3.
