Which is your favorite HP book? I like the The Chamber of Secrets the most. It was the most suspenseful one.

Chamber of Secrets. The suspense of it was what made it for me.

I think they're all neat in their own way. They all have plenty of suspense and mystery - with the obligatory red herrings such as the idea that Snape was the one trying to steal the Philosopher's Stone.

i like POA a lot since i like a lot of the characters that show up in this book... (lupin, black) i really like the way it was written and everything... it's really hard to choose because i like the entire series so much...

I really like the story line The Goblet of Fire. The worst was the Chamber of Secrets. It was so boring that I wanted to fall over and die. I also liked Prisoner of Azkaban.

I love them all but my favorite is the PoA, because I just really liked the whole atmoshphere and thought it was so interesting, what with Lupin (my favorite character) showing up, the Dementors, the Quidditch matches, etc. etc.
It was also the last book in the series that didn't have a major death, so that's another reason why I like the PoA best.

Chamber of Secrets was great because it was so suspenseful and mysterious.

I loved the darker mood of Prisoner of Azkaban, though. That and Order of the Phoenix.

Prisoner of Azkaban used to be my favourite, but now it's Goblet of Fire. I still find Goblet of Fire exciting and fun to read after x number of times, whereas with Prisoner of Azkaban.. well it's a good book but I didn't like it as much the more times I read it. I find Goblet of Fire has more going on story-wise.

Maybe it's because I watched the movies before I read the two books, but I thought Chamber of Secrets was the.. least fun to read. I guess the suspence was lost on me, again, since I'd already seen the movie.

Ay, I agree. PoA was my favorite for a while, but I am really growing to like Chamber of Secrets (my original least favorite, oddly enough). I still like PoA, but now my favorites are Order of the Pheonix, followed by Chamber of Secrets. The comes PoA.

Honsetly, though, OoP only had suspense for me because of all the hype that someone was going to die. =\

#3, by far. As far as I'm concerned it's the cornerstone that ties the entire series together.

Look at it this way. . . yeah, #'s 1 and 2 there's Voldy, and the struggles and stuff, but other than that, they're all about Harry discovering he's a wizard and getting to know himself, the wizarding world, and his friends. In the grand shceme of things, it's setting the scene for the rest of the series (which just goes to show how intricate and detailed the series is, considering it takes 2 books to set the scene, but that's another thing entirely). Books 4 and up continue the story in the present with Voldy returning to power and the restart of the war. Book three ties them together by finishing the main bulk of background info (James Potter's history with the other three and Snape, the betrayal that led to the whole Harry being the boy who lived. . . and all that jazz.) and then it goes into what is happening now, with Voldy's followers still out there, and right under Harry's nose, and trying to get back to him, and so on and so forth. It shows wormtail escaping and reuniting with his master, and foreshadows the future plans. In books 1 and 2, Harry faces Voldy, and you think that's it, there really isn't anything leading up to another confrontation until book 3. I mean, yeah, by the end of book 2, you figure out that it's not that easy to get rid of Voldy, but still, it is just his memory that is defeated, and you're still kinda left wondering what happened to him at the end of book 1, and whether he's really gone.

Book 3 also introduces a whole plethera (sp?) of new characters that later become key players throughout the series. Wormtail, Lupin, Sirius, Crookshanks (yeah, I know he doesn't seem like a whole lot now, but something tells me there's just something about that cat that's out of the ordinary, even for the wizarding world). You also find out more history about some of the other characters, especially Snape and why he hates Harry so much.

Also, book three explains why Harry wound up with the Dursley's. Yeah, they're his only family, but haven't you ever wondered that if his parents were so smart and loved him so much, why they wouldn't have chosen someone to be his legal guardian if anything happened. Especially with the dangers of the time and knowing that there was a good chance they wouldn't make it? You would think that they wouldn't choose to leave him with a family that refuses to even acknowledge they exist.

I also have to admit, that Sirius Black was instantly one of my two fave characters in the series, as soon as I "met" him so to speak. I just loved him, don't ask me why, I just did. And I've also had this interest in Snape. He intrigues me, not exactly evil, but definitely with something against Harry, that he's willing even to overlook to save Harry's life. Not friend, but not quite enemy either. And I think in the end he and Harry will resolve their differences and actually learn to like each other. Snape will let go of his 20 year old grudge, and you can tell Harry's already beginning to understand why Snape is the way he is in book five, but once again, that's off topic a little bit. I just can't get enough of Snape and the history building around him in book 3 only intrigued me further.

All in all, Book 3 just finishes filling in gaps and background information and leads into the current happenings of Voldy's return to power so neatly, and will always remain one of my favourite (if not my absolute favourite) Harry Potter Book.

edit: Don't get me wrong I love the entire series, every single book, and every single detail, but I think that without book 3 to hold it all together, the series wouldn't be a series, they would be individual books. Well, no, 4 and up would be a series with no real beginning (that's where 3 would come in), but 1 and 2 would be out there on their own. A person could read books 1,2,and even 3 completely out of order, on their own and still understand most of what's going on. But without book 3 books 4 and up would make very little sense. But anywhays, I feel like I'm only digging my own grave here, so I'm gonna shut up. LOL

i would have to say prisoner of azkaban, it introduces my two favorite characters (lupin & sirius). but i also love order of the phoenix because of the hard time harry got and the determination and strength of character he shows in not recanting his account of voldy's return. strangly i hate it because sirius dies (but i dont think he is really dead anyway)

My favourite Harry Potter book has got to be Book 3: Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban because we get to meet Sirius Black and we also get to read about how Aunt Marge gets blown up which is fantastic.

Has anyone watched the third Harry Potter film? I think that the book is better than the film by a long time. I especilly liked the following bits in the film:
1) Seeing Aunt Marge floating away in the sky
2) Harry flying on Buckbeak the Hippogriff
3) Hermione punching Draco Malfoy in the face.

I am not too keen on the 5th Harry Potter book, because of two reasons:
1) Professor Dolores Jane Umbridge because she is such an awful woman and I just wish she would either go to hell or end up in Azkaban where the Dementors can suck out her soul because she does not deserve a soul.
2) Because Sirius Black gets killed. I hate that, I really like Sirius in all the books and then when you get to the end of Book 5, Sirius is the one who dies.

I am also not too keen on the Dementors in the third film because every time I saw them I screamed as they are disgusting, they look horrible and I hate the fact that near the end of the film they tried to suck out Harry Potter's and Sirius Black's souls when they did not deserve it.

My favourite Harry Potter book has to be 'Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban', because Harry gets to find out there is another relative of his out there, than just the Dursleys. We get to meet Harry's godfather Sirius Black who is a great character and was only looking out for Harry and trying to protect him like he feels he has too. He feels that he owes that to James and Lily. The only bit in 'Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban' that I did not like was the Dementors because they are just evil and cruel. They are especially evil when they suck out somebody's soul and leaves them worse than dead. How can they want to suck out Harry and Sirius's souls when they have done nothing wrong and are innocent. I have also watched the 'Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban' film and I think that it is good, but I still prefer the book. I think that Gary Oldman was the best person to pick to play Sirius Black and Buckbeak the Hippogriff was an excellent creature who would not hurt a fly unless provoked by Draco Malfoy.

My favourite film had to be 'Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets'. I am not sure why but it was fantastic and with the suspense of the film, it just kept you going and wanting to watch more but I wish they would not miss parts of the book out when they produce the films.

I would have to say that my favorite is either Prisoner of azkaban or the new one, the half blood prince. I really like the half blood prince for reasons that i can't type because that would be a spioler. I like the PoA because it had a dark atmosphere, and of course Sirius was in it, he the greatest ,next to Dumbledore that is

I wished she would get kissed by the Dementors, and stripped away of her soul. She doesn't even deserve a soul. She is clearly one of my least favorite characters in the series, especially because she is such a bish and the decrees.

Odd. On the pollingpoint poll the mmost recent three are by far the most popular but on this thread PoA seems to be king.

Mine would be either CoS or PoA for different reasons: CoS has my favourite plotpoints. I enjoyed the diary and the way the story progressed imensely.

PoA on the other hand has my favourite charecter interaction. Lupin is definitely one of my top 3 charecters and he has recieved far too little screentime since book 3. The Lupin/Sirius/Snape dynamic was highly interesting.

Thats what I had to say over a year ago. I've finished all 6 of them now. HBP is definately my favorite. It took me two weeks to read HBP, by my standards that is amazingly fast. Over one year to finish OotP, I found it to be too dry, I couldn't really get into it. Now we have to play the waiting game all over again for book 7.

I loved the Goblet of Fire the most. The triwizard tournament and everything was so cool. It also marked in the series where it got more violent when Cedric Diggory dies. Professor Quarell wasn't a big deal because he was a bad guy and an adult but when Cedric died he was a kid instead of an adult and was on the good side. I think it was a dramatic change in the series.

I'd say my favorite is Goblet of Fire. This was the first Harry Potter book I read. Had my parents not stopped me from buying Sorcerer's Stone back when I was about 10, Goblet of Fire wouldn't have been my first Harry Potter book. Anyways, when I was in 8th grade I saw a friend of mine reading the book he had borrowed from the library, Goblet of Fire. Intrigued because my parents wouldn't allow me to read any Harry Potter books in the past, I decided to borrow a copy of my own. I easily got hooked. I learned that Goblet of Fire was the 4th book, so I borrowed the previous 3.

Now I've read the six Harry Potter books and am awaiting the final book. I own every Harry Potter book save the second and fourth book.

Goblet of Fire. Awesome, awesome, awesome. This is where the book really kicks off. The first three were more for introduction. Thes had action and mystery, and the darkness the others didn't have (come on, PoA wasn't that dark.) Plus I really liked Moody, all three tasks, the romance, and learning about the courses.

How can you say that the Order of The Phoenix is boring?

I found most of Order of the Phoenix to be too dry for me. I read a few chapters and put the book down for over a year. There seemed to be too much talking, and not as much action. I don't know exactly what it was, but there was nothing to really draw me into the story.

Whereas Half Blood Prince I could not put down. It took me a week to read. For a book that size, that is really quick for me. I stayed up till 5 am reading the last 300 pages as I knew I was getting close to finished. Was hard to get up to go to work at 9:45.

I've only read the first page of this thread and the fact that almost everybody says Prisoner of Azkaban is their favourite book put me off from reading more.

Why PoA? Why NOT the Goblet of Fire? tGoF is currently my favourite one, with all the Quidditch World Cup, Triwizard Tournaments, and the chance to read about most of the important characters in the whole story in one book. Besides, it's equally suspenseful, when it turned out in the end that Mad-Eye Moody was actually an imposter (spelling?) and was working for Voldemort.

And the trailer looks soo cool, I'm gonna see the film with my mates on his birthday. Still can't believe that Hermione looks better than Fleur in the movie though, but I'll get over it.

Which is your favorite HP book? I like the The Chamber of Secrets the most. It was the most suspenseful one.

mine? the 1st or fourth. 1st, because it was the very first one, the one that drew me in , the one that opened me to magic, the one that inspired me to the others. the 2nd you knew there was magic and blah blah blah, not as much suprise and fascination.

4th, because of the triwizard tourney, yule ball, voldy' back, mad-eye and his awesome eye, the imposter moody. now that's adventure.

5+6 books are good but JKR starting to add a little too much bloodshed to them now , eh? i mean sirius dead, dumbledore dead, mr. weasley badly injured, umbridge wiped of mind and trampled, hagrid beat up by giants, grawp destroying everything, snape +death eater killing everyone, mcgonigal being hit by dozens of stun spells. awesome, yet...weird. the huge battle in the hall of prophecy, the horucruxes and inferi.
