so the only way to EV train is AFTER you have beaten the elite four?? If I understand right...otherwise I shoudl just play my game regularly until then..and the pokemon you do EV train you breed right?

Additional Comment:
Once again sorry, are EVs the same as the STATS in the pokedex??

Additional Comment:
Sorry one more. All pokemon start with 0 EPs in all areas right?? that way you can train it accordingly.

Here's the deal. In order to EV train properly you'll need to control each and every battle your pokemon has until it reaches the effort max. So like if you've just started a game you probably just wanna play it regularly for a while (say until you beat the E4 or whatever) and not hassle with EV training yet---until you want to make an EV trained team.

You can EV train whenever you want to, but it's not really practical to do this if you're just trying to get through the game. If you wait until you're done playing the regular game, then later you can concentrate on EV training without story plot distractions.

EV training is not the same as breeding. YOu EV train to riase stats you neeed raised. You breed to get good IVs, a certain move, or to get a certain combination in a specific pokemon.. (Like I want an Adamant Slaking with an Attack IV of 30-31 for example).

EVs are not stats. They enhance stats.

And yes, all pokemon syart with zero effort.

You will really really benefit from reading up on this stuff. Check out post #3 of the Help Thread (page one). It may take like 10 minutes to read thru but I think you will really find it very helpful.

Got 10 minutes?

pencil and paper is still one of the best ways. Another is to use your pokemon's moves. Like if you have 10 icebeams then you go out and faint 10 foes with them. This technique assumes you'll be successful each time but it works well to help you keep track of how much effort you have accumulated. I usually keep track of effort with a combo of both paper and the pokemon's move(s).

You hvae the highest possible IV in attack, so I'd say it'd be pretty good.

what's the difference between a physical and special sweeper??

psychial sweeper uses psyical moves (bug, fighting, flying, ghost, ground, normal, poison, rock, steel. Not the same type of physical that triggers Sharpedo's Rough Skin, though some moves of those types still trigger it).

Special sweeper uses special moves (Dark, Dragon, Electric, Fire, Grass, ice, psychic, water).

Physical Sweepers have high Attack stats, and use Physical Type moves(Ground, Rock, Steel, Normal, Ghost, Bug, Fighting, Poison, Flying).

Special Sweepers have high Special Attack stats, and use Special Type moves(Grass, Fire, Water, Electric, Ice, Dark, Psychic, Dragon).

Additional Comment:
Here are the updates on my Torchic, I've maxed out Attack IVs and Speed IVs (YAY)

UPDATE: It's evolved into combusken...
