First off I'd like to say that it's been forever since I've played the game, but I have Emerald. I am not a poke buff or anything but I like the shiny look and what not.
My question is that if your starter can be shiny, if so, does it show when you select or during the first battle?
Additional Comment:
How can i have NO RESPONDERS!

Relax Pyro, you only posted a couple of hours ago...
Anyway, yes, your starter can be shiny. What you have to do is restart your game about eight thousand times, however, and still may not have one. You will also definitely be able to tell if you have a shiny during the first battle.
There was recently a post about something similar to your topic, if you look back to the second page, iirc.

u know, there was an official shiny thread, that at one point was RIGHT UNDER this thread. That made me laugh, and could be why no one responded right away
anyways, u may just have to save ur game right before choosing ur starter, and keep on trying, instead of restarting the whole game. I did this to get my starter to be a female(the thread is aroung here somewhere, where I talked about it) I could be wrong though, the way the game determines if the starter is shiny or not could be different than the way it determines the gender...
anyway, u can tell that ur pokemon is shiny in battle because it will sparkle when it first comes out of the pokeball, and the coloring may be a bit different, I think...

Oh that's a good idea...I hope it works...that's what i'll do...
Additional Comment:
Can someone verify this...that is start the game go next to the bag and keep restarting and pressing until you get it...

The color isn't always incredibly different. Some guys just change from yellow to orange-yellow, while some change from black to pink (Sneasel)
My Groudon has stars around it when he goes into battle, is he shiny or is that what always happens for a legendary?
On topic: It's probably like the gender, where you can save right in front of the bag and keep trying 8000+ times until you get a shiny (and then be disappointed when its shiny but ugly and/or not the gender you wanted)

If your Groudon is bright yellow instead of bright red, then he's shiny. The stars may just be his PokéBall release animation if he's red instead of yellow.

No. The stars indicate that he's shiny. It only occurs when you send out a pokemon, not when you encounter one.
I've wondered if I ever missed a shiny because it didnt sparkle inthe wild like Shiny Gyarados did. Because usally I'm like "YOU ARE NOT THE POKEMON I AM LOOKING FOR"

I'm pretty sure my shiny Zubat sparkled when I found it
So did my green Krabby on G/S/C (i named him GreenKrab)
Next time I get on, ill see if my groudon is yellow, or if its just the effect of the master ball (my highest lvl guy when i went to fight it was like lv39, and that was manectric... so i had to use master)
