I'm planning on starting a new game on emerald after my exams are over. I'm going on holiday to the West-coast of the USA (going to San Francisco, Las ?Vegas, LA, etc...), and there's lots of driving involved, so this will help pass the time. This is my proposed team, but as of yet, I haven't thought of move-sets, but I can pretty much get any pokemon, and any set of moves. I just need to know what would be the best set up possible.
Gyarados (I caught a level 6 one in sootopolis, so I'll use that as a starting point)
Salamence
Flygon
Kingdra (changed to Altaria, as I changed it further down the thread, but no one seems to have noticed)
Dragonite
Metagross
All of these, I am breeding on Pokemon Ruby as soon as possible, so if any of the suggested moves need to be taught through breeding, then tell me how I can do that. I love using all the pokemon I've listed, but I might change some of them. I only ask that they fit in with a dragon theme.

Metagross is Psychic and Steel, but all righty then.
Salamance:
Dragon Claw (Good dragon move, only costs a heart scale on newly caught Bagon)
Flamethrower (good defense for Ice and Grass type pokemon)
Brick Break (for normal, dark, rock, ice, and steel pokemon)
Fly/Aerial Ace ( Aerial Ace is handy in case of Accuracy problems or Fly needing a spare turn to take care of a problem on a 2 VS 2 battle)
Kingdra
Surf (that should be a given)
Dragonbreath (good for putting poke'mon into paralysis)
Ice Beam (stronger defense against other Dragon and Grass types)
Rest (add with Chesto/Lum Berry) Or Hyper Beam.
Note: to help recover from time lost from Hyper beam, you can give Kingdra Brightpowder or Shell Bell/ Leftovers.
Metagross *might want to try out Latios or Latios for the dragon with psychic powers. Just can't breed*
Meteor Mash (Metal Clawish version of Iron Tail)
Psychic (come on, don't even read this and just skip on)
Earthquake (for those pesky fire types)
Brick Break (against dark types)
Note: For Metagross you can give it a scope lens to increase chances of critical hits in exchange for the 85/100 accuracy.
Only ones I worked with so far. Didn't even know you can get a Dratini in the R/S/E versions. probably by trade means.

Thanks to both of you. I like both of those move sets, and just so you know, I jut like Metagross, and he's a big powerhouse pokemon to me, who evolves twice, and that's why he was there. Otherwise, I would use Altaria, it just slipped my mind at the time. Interfed's sugestions are very useful to me, and for the majority, I would go with those. Just a question, how do I get multiple leftovers? And some of those moves aren't TM moves or on the pokemon's move set, to my knowledge, so how do I learn them?
EDIT: please bear in mind that I want all of these to start out as lvl 5 basic pokemon, so no legendaries.

I also like Metagross, just curious whether you had him there because you liked him or thought he had dragon characteristics (It's actually possible).
You can mainly get Leftovers in Emerald at the Battle Frontier at the cost 48 BP. Just go to the Battle Dome and fight a few tournaments.
100% of my moves are TM's or naturally learned moves and I know about 90% of Interfed's moves are TM's or natural learned moves right off the bat, the other 10% I don't know where you can get them.

Leftovers costs 48BP at the Frontier. The vitamins (Protein, Carbos, etc.) cost 1BP each.
The other moves are FR/LG/Em move tutors. I edited my move sets to exclude those moves.

Ok then. Thanks. My brother is taking a very slow time on Emerald, so we haven't gone to the Battle Frontier yet. I'll be sure to go and get some stuff from it once he's completed the league, etc...
One question though, what is "HP[Flying]" on Gyrados?

Hidden Power Flying. It's really hard to get Hidden Power to be the right type and power, but it's either that or Hyper Beam. :p

OK then. I'm not too familiar with the abbreviations, and I've never used Hidden Power before. I guess I'll be using Hyper Beam then.:p

Hidden Power really isn't useful for in-game Pokemon and battling, unless you have an AR and can give it the HP you want.
It is useful for Net-Bot battling.

Everyone! I found my Pokemon Sapphire game! I lost it for about 1 year, or more. I can now make my team! I'll have this team, I think (for now, I'm still not thinking about movesets, but I will do when I get to pokemon league levels:
Gyarados (Starting with a lvl 6 Gyarados, that knows Thrash and Surf)
Salamence (Starting with a lvl 7 Bagon, that nows bite)
Altaria (Starting with a lvl 5 Swablu)
Flygon (Starting with a lvl 5 Trapinch)
Metagross (Starting with a lvl 5 Beldum)
Dragonite (Starting with a lvl 5 Dratini)
Kingdra is a possiblity, but it's hard for me to find Dragon Scales to evolve it from Seadra. I'd rather take him out for Metagross, who is easier to evolve. I'd like a similar moveset to this though:
Metagross w/ Leftovers
Meteor Mash
Psychic
Shadow Ball (not too sure about that though)
...
Dragonite w/ Dragon Fang
Outrage
Dragonbreath
Hyper Beam
...
Gyarados w/ ...
Surf
Hyper Beam
Flamethrower
...
Salamence w/ ...
Dragon Claw
Flamethrower
...
...
Altaria w/ ...
Dragon Claw
Aerial Ace
...
...
Flygon w/ ...
Earthquake
Hyper Beam
...
...
Can people now just fill in those gaps for me. I need someone who knows Fly fo course, and Altaria would be the best choice, since he can learn it as a Swablu, and Salamence/Flygon/Dragonite would have to wait until hgiher levels to learn it, and I'd like to have a flier pretty early on, as soon as I defeat Winona.

i'm a big fan of dragon types and i say take out metagross and add in say altaria. aerodactyl is not bad either, but i don't suggest it.

Well, I want this team of Dragons to be good. I once tried this out on Sapphire, and I had hoenn-only pokemon, so no Dragonite, I couldn't find a Gyarados, and I couldn't find a Horsea, and I couldn't find an Altaria. :p
The team was full of stage 2 pokemon (Blaziken and Aggron were included I remember), and it was too hard for me to train them, because I got bored too easily. I want this to be different, hence the slight variety of stage 1 and stage 2 evolutions.
Altaria is part of this team, and I'm skipping Kingdra because his evolution is a little too hard for me. If I find a dragon scale though, I'll definitely try out Kingdra on my team.

Dragon Scale is attached to wild Bagon. You just have to catch them or use Thief/Covet/Trick on them until you get a Dragon Scale.

why do you have metagross in a dragon team? but you should use Altaria.

Metagross is mostly out of personal preferance. Altaria is in my team, I just didn't edit the first post. I took out Kingdra for it, because I'm starting this team from scratch (at lvl 5), and Kingdra is a little hard for me to evolve (since I can't be bothered to find a Dragon Scale).
