I'm making a mono steel team (steel is my favorite type) and already have : Aggron, Scizor, Skarmory, Metagross and Mawile (made around elemental attacks... the Mawile that is).. and I really like Steelix.. however, my level 80 Steelix has piss-poor stats... All he really has is Defense lol!
Any suggestions on a nature/build/move set for a Steelix? and Should I use a Forretress(sp?) instead of it?
Thanks in advance!
p.s. plz don't say anything like "blaziken pwns this team" or something like that.. I have counter's to those already..

sadly steelix will always have low states hes just one of those kinds of pokemon. but you can try proteins and if you have a gameshark he can be invincible good luck.

Steelix isn't very good at sweeping; his BaseStats are built so that he makes his living off of Physical Walling. What you want to use him for is to take on Physical Sweepers, and Roar out DDers or SDers.
Make him Impish, and give him a lot of Def and HP. You can put some in attack, if you want, as well. A good set would be something along the lines of EQ/Roar/Explosion/RockSlide, with maybe Rest in there somewhere.

What about Sp. Def ev's? That way he can be a even bigger wall?
and what about this move set: Toxic/Roar/Explosion/Earthquake ?

His SpDef kinda sucks, and his biggest weaknesses are Fire and Water, which will still OHKO him even if you max his SpDef EVs. Toxic is bad due to its inaccuracy and easy-to-avoid effect. Go with Wobmaster's set, and slap Rock Slide or Rest onto him over Toxic.
I'd use Forretress over Scizor and Magneton/Jirachi over Mawile, if it were me.

the only good stat that steelix has is his normal defence, the rest of his stats are horrible. maybe you should find another steel monster, you can look on www.serebii.net, it gives you a nice list.

Stop being stupid. Steelix owns. If you don't have good stats get a new one.
Best set =...
Steelix (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Rock Head
EVs: 252 HP / 122 Atk / 136 SDef
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Earthquake
- Explosion
- Rock Slide
- Roar
It seriously works good. If your using mono steel, your running mono steel, run it. NO questions asked.

This helps, I was thinking maybe a Sassy nature? (-speed, + sp. def)
Trait: Rock Head
EV's:? HP/? Atk/ ? Sp. Def( ? = not sure yet.. still kinda new to EV's)
Move set:
-Earthquake
-Rock Slide
-Explosion
-Double-Edge
hows that steelix look? good or bad?
and also, what does everyone think of this lineup for a steel team:
Skarmory
Steelix
Scizor
Metagross
Mawile (training to be a sp. attacker...(Crunch, Flamethrower, Ice Beam, Thunder Punch)
and Aggron
For moves I was thinkin
Skarmory
- Drill Peck
- Steel Wing
- Rock Slide
- Aerial Ace (I know it's a 2nd Flying type move, but it's like using a quick attack at that moment that it's needed to get the edge over the opponent's fighting type or something (lol blaziken)
Steelix
-Rock Slide
-Earthquake
-Double-Edge
-Explosion
Scizor
- Metal Claw
- Swords Dance
- Silver Wind
- Aerial Ace
Metagross
- Psychic
- Earthquake
- Aerial Ace
- Meteor Mash
Aggron
- Brick Break
- Rock Slide
- Earthquake
- Double-Edge
Mawile
- Crunch
- Ice Beam
- Flamethrower
- Thunder Punch
any changes you would make? I figured since steel's are mainly atk/def and not sp.atk/sp. def, I would have to train them in those areas to cover their weaknesses a bit, and that I would also have to have a couple "elementalist's" (metagross and mawile).
Thanks for all the help so far!

ultimate evil **** you know nothing bout pokemon and serebii.net sucks.
steelix is an awesome pokemon
you could try screech steelix lowering defense then attacking or you can just make the standard steelix set mech-hound suggested

well I was going to try out mech-hound's MS as suggested, but first I wanted to see if my team ideas were good enough (to save time)

I wasn't intending for the skarmory to be a spikeskarm (or w/e they're called)..
The Aerial Ace was to dispose quickly of fighters (mainly blaziken)... and Rock Slide vs Flying/Fire types, Drill peck and steel wing are there for obvious reasons...
I do like that steelix build however... infact, i'm really, REALLY concidering using that build...
