It was a beautifully rendered, and well-paced movie and deserved the accolades it received. Very imaginative.

One of my favorites. The story was compelling and the animation was first rate. Excellent movie in every way.

I love this movie.. I thought it looked pretty stupid in the commercials since I'd never heard of Miyazaki at the time, but then my niece happened to get it for Christmas. We were going to make fun of it but after watching it's like our favorite animated movie..

It WAS good. I remember walking into my local anime shop about a year before it came out and the guy was watching the Japanese version. I saw the part when the girl, forgot her name, was pulling the stuff out of the river spirit. Even without understanding the words I loved it. :)

I loved it also. It was indeed a great movie masterpiece. The animation was beautiful and I had a good time watching it with my bud and his parents in their living room. I was amazed when I watched some of the behind the scenes stuff. Overall great movie.

Okay, and for a different opinion...
It's alright. I know that the animation and plot were done very well, but the storyline didn't really interest me that much. It just didn't appeal to me that much. But that doesn't mean that I think it was a bad movie.

I loved it totally. My family liked it, really appreciated the artwork and movie, but my parents thought it was too weird(my grandma refuses to watch it after seeing 1 scene. oh well, she doesn't like my tv interests and thinks any anime i watch looks like speed racer...)
When i moved out, i begged my parents to let me have the dvd. they said no. and tehn let the silly puppy get ahold of the case. At least he didn't scratch the dvd inside. and they still won't let me have it. Silly. At least I would take proper care of it.

Spirited Away was amazing. I purchased the DVD and every minute (including the special features) is worth it (even the 15-odd minutes where Miyazaki cooks Ramen for his staff)

Hell yeah! Seeing Miyazaki cook Ramen for the crew was awesome. The features were really worth watching.

I liked it..is there anyone here that doesn't? It was a bit weird @ times but it really worked for them! I've never seen animation(still haven't since then) like it and the plot was deep. But I personally didn't like the ending that much. Don't get me wrong it was great and all but it felt like there could've been more. Does anyone know if they'll be a sequel?
But a wonderful movie!!!

SPIRITED AWAY IS GOD.
This is my all-time favorite movie. Emotion, art, Japan, imagination; everything.
I would recommend it to anyone (except people who have religious issues with it).
The train scene can make you cry.
Plus there's Haku. :D

I saw it for the first time last week on TCM I definately want to get the DVD of it and the other Miyazaki movies that they've shown on TCM so far. I just have one question though During the end when they're walking out of the tunnel did she forget everything that happened to her while she was in that place?

It was... good.
I like different storylines though. The whole 'girl steps into a fantasy world full of strange monsters' has been done over and over and over. They're inventive, but at some point, Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away and all the rest just blend together.
Traditional japanese stories like it don't tend to interest me much.
But, I'll give it credit for being an excellent movie. Maybe that's why I don't like a lot of movies like it...

animewolf17: Yes. She forgets. The sprinkling hairband is to show it DID happen, and wasn't a dream. It also represent's what Zeniba said: You don't forget, you just can't recall.
Slavik: Sen is INCREDIBLY original. And no where NEAR Mononoke in terms of ANYTHING. Don't call it cliché.

I borrowed it from the library a few weeks ago. I found it very enjoyable, but, plotwise, I liked Princess Mononoke(which I had also borrowed) better.

Ah, ok so thats what she meant when she said it'll protect you. I missed the dub showing and stayed up for the sub; so sorry if thats not what she said in the dub.

I likes SA a lot, but it wasn't as good as some of Miyazaki's earlier movies, and used a lot of the same plot points that his earlier films did as well. Howl's Moving Castle had the same problem.
If you have TCM, can I steal your cable for the month of January?

I really enjoyed this movie.
Great all the way throughout. It was well worth the wait for me too watch.
Although i've constantly missed the first 20 mins. i gotta watch it all from start to finish.
I've seen both sub and dub. Movie channels here showed subbed for some reason.

Spirited Away, like most of Miyazaki's films, are some of the most heartfelt, warming stories to come out of Japan. They're widely accepted in the anime world as some of the best in the business.
Spirited Away is no different. It seems strange right off the bat, but the storyline is compelling and the animation is fluid.
I loved it.

IMO, Spirited Away is not the best Miyazaki movie, but is great for anime beginners as a grat example of what anime can be. A compelling story, wacky characters, and a even weirder storyline are some of Miyazaki's staples, and SA brings them in full force. I love the movie, and own it on DVD.

Honestly you shouldn't make it seem like your opinion(spelling) is a fact.
Many people think it is his best movie and many don't...Mkay?
Also there is already a thread on this(I think) so you should use the search button.
I obv love it liek so much.I got it on dvd with most of miyazakis other movies.
Spirited Away appeals to people who have never seen anime b4 and anime lovers which is why it's like a classic.

Miyazaki Month is for Toonami's birthday? They're not promoting it as anything like that...although I do like the paper bird...thing...from Spirited Away with the Toonami Logo on its back...
I remember Toonami's 10th birthday. That was the last time they ever showed something TV14...until next week, that is.

Disney is FINALLY doing some promotion for Ghibli. With this, and with the little banner ad for HMC on Yahoo mail.
Any ideas how CN is gonna get away with the constant decapitations in Mononoke?

I just watched it on the Cartoon Network Saturday
and the movie is awesome. I think I will buy it on dvd to keep it forever. The
graphics, colors, background, and characters were beautifully done.
I never saw animation done this good.:)
