I know i could prolly send this in to Judge Billl or the Saturday School guy, but i know that it'll definately get answered here, and with faster responce too....

I have an Isochron Scepter with Brain Freeze out, and no spells have been played this turn. My opponent tries to destroy it with an instant speed artifact removal (let's just say oxodize). Can I use the Scepter in responce to make him mill 6 cards. He says i can only mill 3 because the removal spell hasn't resolved yet.

If your sure u know the answer (i don't want any guesses), then post a reply.

thanx!

Whenever aka responds, I know I screwed up somewhere. :p. I forgot about the effect of the card + its storm. Sorry!

You said: Because there was only one spell played before it, you will mill 3. The storm ability doesn't count itself as a spell.

The storm text reads: "when you play this spell, copy it for each spell played before it this turn. You may choose new targets for the copies"

"When you play this spell" is saying that the actually card goes on the stack and then an additional copy. so if there was one spell played before it, you would have to mill 6

what i'm askin is whether the brain freezed Isochron counts the oxodize (that's destroying the scepter) as a spell.

"played" refers to being put on the stack... it resolves in the order:

Strom's copy of Brain Freeze, Scepter's copy of Brain Freeze, Oxidize

the oxidize has already been "played" and is on the stack, but the brain freeze resolves first, and counts the oxidize as being "played"

so yes 6 cards would be milled...

(storm doesn't count itself, but the spell still mills for 3 after the "storm" has resolved)
