Hey, all I'm not trying to start a flame about this so dont come here if you do not present your opinion in a polite manner, I just want to know why yu-gi-oh teams exist when it is a player vs. player game and should not involve the dinamics of having a team I have seen this from teams so far, in a regional setting one player basically giving the match (scoopin) to the other player so thet get into top 8 while they could have top 8ed if they had played and beat that person. So, all I am asking for this thread is for an explanation of team dinamics and why should a player who thinks that he/she is good enough should consider tyring to join a team and what are the benefits of being in a team, that is in a game that is clearly competitive on a one on one basis and not a collective basis like (i.g. base ball- team activity),vs., (i.g. checkers- non-team activity) where checkers represents yu-gi-oh which is not a team activity in my mind, I am open to all opinions so plz start posting. Also, what is required to start or join a team and what exacly is expected of its members when not a regional events and at regional or other events like that thx.

I don't want to read you crappy paragraph so I'll answere your thread. Because of CO. And because a group of friends who like to play Yu-Gi-Oh decides to make the group official.

thats my point some what why do we need teams to show are friendship as you just stated that even if teams had never existed friends would still help each other out and that really means that there is no real need for teams-- thx for your post

ok, since my guys here that are on teams are less than willing to explain....
In yugioh, mainly they do it to show off for the most part. It's easy to say that "my team is the best team ever". Teams get more publicity, and it's easier to get your name out there, if you're part of a team.
However, teams in CCG's are a good thing, even if the game is a player vs. player event. Teams do a number of things:
1) Deck building
a) Once the deck creator determines what the metagame is, he creates a deck that is supossed to compete well against said metagame.
b) Once the deck is created, It is then passed to another teammate who tweaks the deck, either with his idea of what the metagame is like, or what the immediate area is playing.
c) Once the deck is tweaked, it is then tested VIGOROUSLY between all team members. it is played with all types of decks that are out in the metagame, to see what the strengths and weaknesses are.
d) Then the deck is made in multiples, for everyone on the team to run. Not every teammate will run the exact same thing, but maybe a change in one or two cards.
2) Teamwork in tournaments
a) players play the deck, and whoever finishes first, scouts the winners, so that they can tell the rest of their teammates exactly what those guys are running, and how they run it.
b) if players on the same team face each other, they will scoop to either:
I) the best player on the team, to guarantee the team with the best chance to perform in the playoffs
II) The player on the team that needs the qualification to get to higher events. this way every teammate can get into the bigger events, so that they can do the same things all over again.
3) Overall solidarity.
players getting together can play, train and get better the more they do such things.....
Certain yugioh teams are beginning to be like that. Team Scoop was the team to develop the Bazoo-return deck, and everyone on the team ran the exact same thing. resulting in two players top 8'ing at SJC-LA, with one of them winning it.
And hopefully, yugioh teams are going to be great like this in the future......

thx, that helps alot thats exactly the kind of answer I was looking for, thx for the post, do you have any exeperience with what exactly i takes to get inot a team and what excatly is expected form its members in and out of the tournament seen other than just deck building and testing and if a yugioh player has the opprotunitie to join a team what are some factors he/she needs to consider before thx if you can help with this

Honestly, yugioh teams haven't evolved to that level yet, as the game is just evolving to that level. Most yugioh teams are still basically popularity contests of nothing but 'cliques'
but it will happen soon enough.

.::Pierce him to death, Shinsou::.
Being a leader of a team, I will tell you how teams fit into a single player game.
As krazy kilroy said, if all our minds are focused on making a deck the best it can be then playtest it to hell against other deck-types, it ensures that our members will get Top 8 Spots of Regional/Shonen Jump Championships.
He however didn't cover the profits a team can produce. If multiple members of a team Top 8, they can win things such as IPods, Box's of the latest set, Uncut Sheets of ULT's, and if you win a SJC Main/Side event you can get the lastest prize card. These can all be sold for max profits producing a lot of money for your team. Boxes can be scaled, we can keep the holo's, we can sell the crap for $3/pack for example and gain a considerable amount of cash.
Really, the answer should be obvious to why teams are good in this game.

To answer the original question...i dunno. I thought it would be good. Practice, chill, hustle together. Turned out to be drama ppl trying to make their lives more excitement. (yes i am doing this just to bump this thread lol) I would highly recommend doin a team of 4 ppl or so that are really close and are sharks in the game of sharks and fishies. Good luck!

Personally, as a team, you have access to massive playtesting and cards to use, assuming you don't have every single great card.

CO was pretty much the first team to be known. Then Savage was the second team to be known, trying to stop CO from winning all the SJCs. Then the team thing spread like wildfire from there.
I think teams are great for YGO overall.

Ohh mah gosh Evan vargas, we all know that when CO was around, there were also the exiled forces, team woot and all these teams. It wasn't savage it was like Co then exiled forces. OBV.

I dont know alot about teams as im not in one and ive never been in one (although I am intrested in joining a team) but the genrel idea is to play with freinds, have tons of different people to test new decks with, find out about different decks, help with your own decks & to have fun.

So they can buy you dinner, and give u stuff =p and give u some icecream scoops =p
xD on a serious note. It doesn't hurt to have a group of friends form a team. I mean if one of mah boi won a sjc, they will break bread =], split some lil cash. Not much obv, but some money > No money.
Plus if you get some coverage, and do well in major event that a +++

The main purpose for me is to show that my city has the best players when I go to regionals, etc.

1) People can playtest against each other, share cards with each other, etc to help make their members top 8 a tournament.
2) To go with the flow as most well known players in the US belong to some team or another.
3) It's more fun to go to a regionals or SJC and know people there. Team is the easiest way, though I usually meet up with people from the stores in NH.
I don't mind teams, but I prefer just knowing a couple people, playtesting with them, and chilling with them all day at a premiere event, but I don't care for the whole team aspect and having a name or representing myself as a member of any particular team. Some teams get really boa****l and inflate their egos with that sort of thing. I just want to playtest with a few mates whenever I can and be ready next regional/SJC I'm able to go to.

And there you have it.
If you haven't guessed by now, yugioh teams still have a way to go before developing into a real "team" based tournament scheme.
most players who are in yugioh teams are just going with the flow, and to say how 'l33+' their team is.
And I knew of CREW!! as the first team I offically knew of, but yugioh teams didn't become popular until CO started winning large-scale tourneys, and doing things that were somewhat consistent with a CCG team. But as I said before, CREW!! was the first team I really ever knew of, and thats probably because Anthony put me d on the squad on some honorary ####. (I really promise, we really are gonna go to hooters one of these times. On my word, we'll go if I make it down to Durham for the SJC).
Anyway, I hope what everyone answered your questions on teams and teamwork in Collectible Card Games, and Yugioh in particular.
