View Full Version : 3 Starters. . .

Alright, I am restarting my Ruby and will buy Sapphire today or tomorrow. . . I figured, why not take advantage of having both?

Would it be okay to have a team that includes all 3 starters? Or do you think there is a better choice? I don't want to use legendaries. I don't go to tournaments, but I still find them kind of cheap. But when I battle my friends, they always use legendaries, so I want to stomp them with powerful non-legendaries.

So, Sceptile, Blaziken, and Swampert all in one team. Good idea or should I only use one?

so are you all about power?

Spike9123
01-31-2004, 05:46 AM
No, I just want the best strategy to take my friends down, and each starter covers a few types.

I may sound like a n00b in Pokemon but I try to think I'm not. =p

how will you get all 3 starters in 1 game if you trade they will get double expirence points and which will eventually make them weaker then what they should be

I played a team with 3 starters, but i cut sceptile cause he doesnt learn good attacks w/o tm help. blaziken and swampert together make a good sweeper combo but youll need a couple more pokes to make a good team. I reccommend an ice like welreign and a thunder or grass like magneton or <insert grass type here>, plus an HM slave or 2 and youve got yourself an in-game team :)

also, if you trade, beware, your pokes will stop listening to you

Spike9123
01-31-2004, 06:03 AM
Ah, yeah, I trade starter over, restart that game, and trade the other starter over.

. . . How does it make them weaker?

Spike9123
01-31-2004, 06:06 AM
Oh, just saw other guy's post.

What I do, is before I start playing, is make my team and print it out. Then, as I'm going through, I can build it as I progress. Not in-game, out-of-game. In game is easy. I want a good tournament quality team even though I don't go to tournaments. =p

Venusaur1
01-31-2004, 06:06 AM
because they get double exp points you think the double expirence points for getting 3 starters means no side affect?

Spike9123
01-31-2004, 06:07 AM
But, it's just that sideaffect? There's no reason to it?

Venusaur1
01-31-2004, 06:10 AM
idont no but since you get double exp points from a traded pokemon that pokemon will not get as strong as it should

wobmaster
01-31-2004, 06:10 AM
Why make a good tourney team if you dont go to tournaments?

Your best op wud be to beat ingame then build a tourney team when you've unlocked all the areas...

Oh wait you want a team for the battle tower. that is the hardest part of ingame

Venusaur1
01-31-2004, 06:13 AM
You mean the battle tower not tourney?

Spike9123
01-31-2004, 06:13 AM
I build my tourney team as a I go along with the game. . .

I want a tourney team because:

1. it should be good as and in game team in the first place. . .
2. Battle Tower, of course!
3. To stomp my friends who are arrogant and think they know how to make really good teams, when they just pack it with legendaries, don't go on the internet for reference, and just use moves they think are cool. Mudslap. . . Tsh.

yeh but you dont need an ultimate team to have fun just pick the pokemon you like and train them GOOD

wobmaster

I often own all over people with UU pokes...

Spiritual Rain

Once the Pokemon has all of it's EVs then it doesn't matter how you raise it.

Linzoy
01-31-2004, 06:35 AM
I've trained lots of traded pokemon and I haven't seen any evidence that they come out weaker.

Spike9123
01-31-2004, 06:35 AM
I don't know if I want to keep a talley on every single battle and have to keep track of every single point I raise doing that EV stuff. . .

Linzoy
01-31-2004, 06:40 AM
You don't have to keep track of your points, just battle only two kinds of pokemon until you get an effort ribbon. It doesn't really take that long.

BusterBladerLord

As for the weaker traded pokemon thing, just use the box trick to max out their stats.

wobmaster
01-31-2004, 06:45 AM
Well u have to battle wild pokes for this to work...so it usually does take some time...

unless of course u have the macho brace and/or pokerus

Spike9123
01-31-2004, 06:56 AM
What is this "box trick" you speak of? And what's a Pokerus?

wobmaster
01-31-2004, 07:00 AM
pokerus is a virus that doubles your EPs

Red the pokerus topic!

EV's are complicated i never understood them

Linzoy
01-31-2004, 07:40 AM
All you do is battle pokemon, get effort points, and get an effort ribbon. It's not so complicated.

IronFist0
01-31-2004, 07:42 AM
they have pokemon tournaments? with gameboys?

Venusaur1
01-31-2004, 07:43 AM
i think they do

IronFist0
01-31-2004, 07:45 AM
how do i find them?

MonkeyMasterTao9
01-31-2004, 07:46 AM
It's cool having all 3 starters. You should do that, but be careful, Pokerus is spreading . . .

Venusaur1
01-31-2004, 07:48 AM
3 starters are cool dependign on what versions.....Any version but r/s (evolutions look so bad besiodes sceptile)

NarutoKun128
01-31-2004, 07:55 AM
You know for me, I don't use the trade back thing to get all the starters. In my Crystal version, i started with Totodile, and i used my Gold to trade Typhlosion to my game and then started the Gold again for Chikorita and traded it to Crystal. Then I breeded them (not together) to get eggs for the starters and traded the two Pokemon used for breeding the eggs back to the other game.

Absol

box trick is not in RS Buster Blader...
Stats are NOT weaker if you trade them... also the experience increase is only 50%...
get all female starters and breed them later for your link battles... cuz Sceptile needs Crunch and Blaziken needs Rock Slide...

Venusaur1
01-31-2004, 08:35 AM
exp points double

Absol
01-31-2004, 08:42 AM
no... its x1.5...

Venusaur1
01-31-2004, 08:45 AM
since what version r/s?

Absol
01-31-2004, 08:47 AM
since Red and Blue

Venusaur1
01-31-2004, 08:50 AM
o but traded pokemon are weaker because of the Lack of Stat EXP, which can be fixed. They battle less to get to L. 100, and therefore...yeah. Their Stat EXP value is lower, but that can obviously be fixed.

Absol
01-31-2004, 09:03 AM
do you know what EVs are?

Venusaur1
01-31-2004, 09:15 AM
yes effort values

Absol
01-31-2004, 09:54 AM
do you know what they are? I dont mean what EV stands for...

Venusaur1
01-31-2004, 10:10 AM
Every time you beat an enemy poke, you gain effort. Different pokes will give you different effort. a poke can learn 252 in each stat, and a total of 510 altogether.to find out if your poke has maxed effort, talk to the lady in the at the market in slateport, if its effort is maxed, she will give it a ribbon called "effort ribbon".

Absol
01-31-2004, 10:28 AM
exactly... stat experience=EVs... your stat experience will not be messed up if you use a traded pokemon...

Venusaur1
01-31-2004, 10:33 AM
a traded pokemon gets weaker.....

Absol
01-31-2004, 10:43 AM
HOW?

stats (HP is a little different) are like this...

(((((base stat) x 2) + IV + (EV/4)) x level/100) + 5) x personality

HP is like this...

((((base stat) x 2) + IV + (EV/4)) x level/100) + 10 + level

where does it have a possiblity for traded pokemon to be weaker?

Spike9123
01-31-2004, 11:34 AM
You guys can continue arguing, but just so you know, I decided not to use all 3 starters, just one. =p I probably just won't trade anything over.

Absol
01-31-2004, 01:00 PM
sorry about taking up your topic for an argument...

I'd use 1 game for your main game and use the other to get TMs and one-time pokemon...

Spike9123
01-31-2004, 02:41 PM
Yeah, that's what I'll do. Thanks, Absol, for helping me so much on my team and movesets. I might post it later to get it rated.
