Not another Duel Academy fix: Chapter 2
Ukiro grinned at the response he got from his claim.. He placed another card down, an evil glint in his eye..
"I'll activate Luminous Spark, which increases the attack of all light monsters by 500!"
"That increases the attack of my Helper Robo too!"
"I'm counting on it! Next I'll activate Snatch Steal, taking control of your Helper Robo!"
The small crowd murmered.. Ukiro now had 2 monsters on the field, to his opponents 1..
"Next I'll activate the effect of Gradius's Option! I'm able to special summon it to my field and it will gain the attack of one of my Gradius! 1700! And I've got two!"
Max looked concerned, and Ukiro laughed..
"Not so confident now, are we? That's just the beginning of it.. Next I'll activate United We Stand on Gradius!"
"1.. 2.. 3.. 4.. That means... Gradius has 3200 more attack points!"
"And so do all my options! Helper Robo, attack.. I'll use his effect, and draw.. and place 'Cyclon Laser' at the bottom of my deck.. and I'll attack for game!"
The small crowd was silent as Ukiro scooped all of his cards up, placed them back in the small plastic box, tossed the 'Helper Robo' to Max, and retook his seat silently.
"In.. one.. turn! You must've cheated!"
"With that many people around? Impossible. You just suck."
"No, you got lucky!"
He watched as a few of the kids took the tray table to have a duel for themselves, allowing Max to cross the aisle, and grab the frail Ukiro by his collar, glaring at him..
"Why I oughta.."
"What would that prove? Hit me. I dare you. You'll never get into the academy that way!"
Max dropped him, spinning around.. He knew he was right, as Ukiro straighted out his sweater and laughed.
"You'll never pass the entrance exam, you know that right? The duelists who give the exams are probably even better. You'll be lucky if you make it into Osiris Red."
"Never! I'll be in Obelisk Blue, just you watch! My swarm deck is perfect!"
"So perfect I beat it in one turn?"
Ukiro smirked. One of the observers who sat one seat down from Ukiro grinned at him.
"He burned 'ya there, Max."
"Quiet! I dueled your little spellcasters earlier, and crushed them!"
"He beat you? That's hilarious.."
The conversation went on as the bus traveled through the Japanese coutnryside.. Not everyone could afford to take some big boat over.. Some aspiring duelists still wanted to go to Kaiba's school, though.
Kaiba came up with the perfect solution.. A bus! If they passed the exam they could stay on Campus in a dorm, and if not they'd simply take the bus home the next day. Hours later, they all were dropped off
at the campus, and as Ukiro got off, he straighted some of his short black hair, he felt a tap on his shoulder.
"Hm?"
It was a girl.. He took in her features for a moment, she was about average height, just slightly shorter than he.. She had red hair, pulled into a ponytail, and had a tomboyish nature about her.
"Nice display back there.. That Max kid declared himself King of the Bus back at the third or so stop whenever he got on."
"What stop did I get on?"
"Eight. I got on at the first stop.. I live pretty far out in the country."
"Hm. What is your name?"
"Asys."
He didn't like small talk, but he tried.
"So.. Are you feeling confident about the exam?"
"My Ninja deck did pretty well whenever I played the kids at home, but I don't know how well it'll do in the exams.."
"I see. Well, I wish you luck, Kat."
"You too.. Ukiro was it?"
"Yeah."
"Good luck, Ukiro."
Upon reaching the testing building, Ukiro signed in, and sat down.. 'Now to play the waiting game..' The PA system kicked in as a female voice spoke..
"Calling Max Ericson to Testing Area A. Max Ericonson to Testing Area A!"
Ukiro watched as Max got up, still wearing his Marshmallow coat, and traveled by Ukiro, shooting him a glare..
"Good luck, Max.. You'll need it.."
"Shut up, Ukiro.. Obelisk Blue.. Here I come.."
The PA System chimed again, and Ukiro perked up..
"Calling Asys Moris to Testing Area F.. Asys Moris to Testing Area F.."
Asys stood up, and passed by Ukiro.. She gave him a nod, and he returned the favor.. After several more names were called, his finally was..
"Calling Ukiro Kenen to Testing Area B.. Ukiro Kenen to Testing Area B.."
Ukiro stood up..
"Finally.."
A/N: This chapter was a little longer.. Introduced a new character, and set up for the first real duel in this fic..The Gradius OTK was just a fluke I guess. Leave feedback if you want me to get up the next chapter any time soon.
Next time on 'Not another Duel Academy fic': Begin the test duels! Will Max's swarm deck be able to stand up against Chrono's antiques? How about Asys's Ninjas? Will they be able to hold out against a deck based on total lockdown? And what about Ukiro, he has the greatest challenge of all, having to win within 20 turns. Same pojo channel, same pojo network. Different topic though.
