Since it goes to your Graveyard, it comes back on your side of the field.

Yes, phoenix goes to your graveyard. Any card will go to your graveyard, if it belongs to you. (even if your opponent played it, by nicking it with Exchange)

I am the ultimate Dark Phoenix and I am sure 100% the phoenix goes to the owners graveyard and is summoned on the owners side of the field.

The ruling is exaclty the same as cards like Sangan and searchers, they take them, you destroy, you get effect. I just traded a VWXYZ for my Secret Rare Phoenix .

Sorry to resurrect an old thread but I thought it'd make it easier.
About the Sacred Phoenix, I had a few questions about her

1. does its effect "If this card is destroyed by a card effect..." apply when its in my hand or simply when on the field?

2. And I'm guessing that a card(Like ectoplasmer) that asks you to tribute won't activate its Effect?

3. Also,If ya use Call Of The Haunted and Premature Burial to return her from the graveyard then destroy these cards the Phoenix will be back at the next standby phase right?

Cards have both an "owner" and a "controller;" the owner is the person who physically owns the card, and whenever a card is sent to the Graveyard, regardless of where it is at the time, it goes to the owner's Graveyard. Due to that fact, the owner will always receive Graveyard effects no matter where their monster is when sent to the Graveyard.

If your opponent steals your Sangan and it's destroyed or tributed, you get the effect. However, if they steal your face-down Man-Eater Bug and flip it up, they get the effect since it's not a graveyard effect.
