Salamence (M)@Petaya Berry ** Draconica

Clear Body
Gentle/100 HP/100 Atk/100 Def/10 SpAtk/100 SpDef/100 Spd

I know the natures and EV spreads suck, but this is ingame, and I don't EV-train properly ingame. Will that give me a disadvantage at the BT, or can I still win even with a poorly-trained team?

Thanks in advance!

You can still win but it might be a bit harder. I've done it so I know. The AI will start making counter teams to yours so you may want to consider rotating in a different pokemon type once in a while to throw it off. You can also switch your lead pokemon to help confuse it a bit. Avoid double weaknesses at all costs and cover each other. Each pokemon needs to be able to function as if it were your last.

Skill and luck play a big part in winning. IMO you've already got the skill and knowledge needed for success, Good Helper, so with some luck you'll do it.

I don't know if you've ever checked out the Battle Tower part of the Help Thread, but I've posted several Gold-winning teams as examples and they have suck EV spreads/abilities etc., but they won. I believe that you can too.
Good luck. SA

Thanks for the advice, and the pep-talk. I read the BT section in the help thread, and it helped a ton! I guess my team doesn't have to be perfect to win, even at a place where the trainers are tougher than normal.

I can't say as much for the BF, though. Your team needs to be competition-ready in order to at least stand a ghost of a chance in that warzone. *shudders*

I don't like 100/100/100/10/100/100 spreads. 255/255 works better in the RS Battle Tower, though you do have to put a little bit of time in. As for the Natures and EVs, however, they don't really matter. Even in the Fronteir, I settle for IVs of 20 all the way around.

As for the team, I see nothing that needs major fixing. It looks great how well you are covering your weaknesses.

You're actually wasting 6 (4 valuable if you already filled up with 252 and 252) evs. What you're looking for is 252/252/4. However, these evs are pretty newbish as most sets should be a mix. Exclusions should really be cbers (max speed + max attack), blissey, and some others. Otherwise, varying evs is good, but too much varying like you have there is also bad.

If you've got attack EVs on Milotic and special attack EVs on Metagross, you've got a problem.

At least put 255 EVs in Metagross's attack and Salamence's special attack. Bare minimum, try to go for a nature that at least raises your primary stat and if you're not going to worry about IVs, then just go optimal nature. 255/255 EV spread bare minimum, if you've got time to breed for Hypnosis you've got time to EV train, even if you don't count PP.

As for the team, your selection of Pokemon is good as it doesn't leave you with any double weaknesses. However, in BT I really recommend something that can set up. I actually like using Substitute and Dragon Dance with Gyarados, but even something as simple as Calm Minding once with Alakazam can help you out. And Hypnosis isn't worth the risk IMO, 40% chance of missing and besides sleep isn't that great in BT.

Note how I said R/s Battle Tower, where computers are not the epitome of incredibly difficult enemies that require minute adjustments in EVs. 1 extra HP won't be worth the time generally in there.

I've found the BF very difficult, especially since we have to rent. I actually got to the gold battle (#42) on one of my first challenges but then lost to the Factory Head. Since then I tried over and over and over and never came close to a rematch.

I came to the conclusion that the AI was getting better at beating me by keeping track of stuff I did. So I did my first Emerald restart last week, with the idea that I'd like to test the AI theory to see if it is easier to beat the Factory in early challenges, before the AI can collect a lot of data.

Well I finally made it to the BF last night and barely won the very first two matches! (not trainer groups, matches!) I'll go back this weekend to see if I can at least get to the factory head for the Silver (21 wins I think). At this point, I have no idea if my theory is correct or not, but time I hope will tell.

lol. yes. and theres a big difference between 403 and 404 hp. 392 Speed and not 394. Your opponent has 1 HP left when those 4 more evs would ko them?

NEVER waste evs please.

I was just wondering if what I had would be good in the R/S BT, if I were to challenge it. I don't think I will.

The team? Seems very good for the BF even if your evs are a bit effed. However, my ingame evs are also effed but my team does fine (Metagross, Flygon, Sceptile) Added in that you have 2 pokes that have one of the highest base stat totals that are non uber and one that will not die, I bet you'll do VERY fine.
