It's been more than a year since I've last posted one of these, and given that I recently just started playing standard full advance again, and I'm pretty content with my current team, I think now would be a good time to face the jury.

Gyarados (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Intimidate
EVs: 84 HP / 252 Atk / 72 Def / 100 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Dragon Dance
- Earthquake
- Hidden Power [Flying]
- Taunt

Practically all of my teams, whatever generation they are, operate without paralysis support, and this one isn't too different. Gyarados can be quite the tank, but then I've never been one to pass up his sweeping potential. Takes Focus Punch like Weezing.

Ludicolo (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Swift Swim
EVs: 252 HP / 28 Def / 12 SAtk / 216 SDef
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Ice Beam
- Leech Seed
- Rest
- Seismic Toss

Ludicolo mainly filled up several holes that I had. It counters Swampert quite handily and also gave me something to take Leech Seed, which was being quite a problem. It takes special hits really well, especially from water types. This pretty much solved all my Suicune problems.

Snorlax (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Thick Fat
EVs: 140 HP / 116 Atk / 252 SDef
Careful Nature (+SDef, -SAtk)
- Curse
- Earthquake
- Frustration
- Rest

Special protection that can actually sweep teams after Skarmory's out of the way, unlike Blissey who just sits there and paralyzes Heracross switch-ins.

Magneton @ Leftovers
Trait: Magnet Pull
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Spd / 252 SAtk
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Substitute
- Metal Sound
- Thunderbolt

This traps and kills Skarmory, setting the stage for Gyarados or Snorlax. Hidden Power Fire takes out Forretress, giving overall great Spikes protection, and other Magneton, keeping my Skarmory safe. It actually functions very nicely on the offensive end and I've actually swept teams with this. (I seriously never understood the reasoning behind Thunder Wave on Magneton.)

Skarmory (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Keen Eye
EVs: 196 HP / 60 Atk / 252 Def
Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Drill Peck
- Rest
- Roar
- Spikes

I seriously think Skarmory is broken. Switching Raikou in on Spikes is hardly a "counter." Whatever physical hits it can't take (Focus Punch, Rock Slide) I have coverage for elsewhere.

Flygon (M) @ Choice Band
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 60 HP / 252 Atk / 196 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Earthquake
- Hidden Power [Bug]
- Quick Attack
- Rock Slide

I absolutely love Flygon. The typing and trait compliment each other perfectly, giving it immunity to Earthquake AND Rock resistance. Hidden Power Bug is for Celebi who I otherwise have trouble taking out and Quick Attack has saved my tail on several occasions. (Tyranitar's apparently diminishing use makes running around with 1 HP more viable these days, apparently.)

Analyze, evaluate, critique. Point out anything you think could possibly be improved, even if it’s just picking on EVs. (However, I am not in the mood for Frustration/Return debates, just accept that I'm right and you'll be a better person.)

looks fine, maybe more speed to outspeed timid sceptile and alakzam after a dragon dance but its up to you

IMO, ditch rest for rain dance and seismic toss for surf, hes to vulnarable when its resting, and you counter blissey with leech seed...

maybe shadow ball or body slam

substitute wont help it much, t-wave is muc better IMO

Skarmory (F) @ Leftovers

standard

just a note, a a salamence can mess up youre team with rock slide against gyarados, hp flying against ludicolo, brick break against snorlax, earthquake to magneton, and skarmory wont do anything against salamence, flygon..., maybe he can beat it but just do something against that big salamence weakness
In the event that Salamence uses Choice Band, pretty much everything is left up to prediction. Magneton and Flygon take Rock Slide. Flygon, Skarmory, and Gyarados avoid Earthquake. Skarmory and Magneton both take flying blows. Gyarados absorbs Brick Break. (Admitedly, this teams biggest weakness is probably Fighting.) Hopefully, I'll predict correctly and will be able to force switches enough that Salamence's efforts end up being futile.

If Salamence carries Dragon Dance, then Skarmory shouldn't have too much of a difficult time against him. Spikes can pile up fast and unless Salamence switched into Skarmory, it's not going to like Drill Peck. (Skarmory switching into Salamence is a far more likely scenario.) Regardless, the only way Skarmory is going down against Salamence is a Dragon Dance on the switch followed by MAJOR Rock Slide flinch hax.

IMO Sceptile and Alakazam aren't used enough to warrent more speed EVs on Gyarados, breaking the Raikou/Starmie threshold is enough for me. And chances are that Gyarados won't be going head to head with Dugtrio; either it's going to be switching in on HP:flying knocking it below 50% health or it'll have its attack cut and won't be doing too much with Rock Slide if I decide to stay in. (That isn't particularly likely, though; Flygon can perform well enough there.)

Ludicolo is meant more to absorb special hits and switch into water types. If I wanted to use Rain Dance I'd be using Kingdra. Assuming he's able to switch in on something like Starmie or Celebi he should be able to survive Rest often enough to make it viable. (Admittedly, I would like to use Synthesis, but Tyranitar is still used enough to make it something I don't really feel like risking.) Also, Ludicolo is something that's defensive enough that you want to be able to switch it in on Thunder Wave but offensive enough that you don't want to have it paralyzed the whole game, so Rest works there. Plus, not only does it make it easier to come in on Blissey and get in a "free" Leech Seed, when he's Resting, he makes the perfect switch-in for Thunder Wave.

I like Snorlax as is. Paralysis has never really been that helpful to me and besides he's meant more to punish with his high attack than status. (If I wanted that I'd be using Blissey.) Shadow Ball really only helps against Gengar; I find the ability to hit Tyranitar and Metagross more desirable.

Magneton's Subsitute helps it ward off Thunder Wave, letting it stay (moderately) quick and able to attack effectively. Plus, it helps for when my prediction is off. Although this would seemingly be something only really applicable with Hidden Power type Grass or Ice, the fact that you don't want to Metal Sound something faster with Earthquake makes it worth it to me.

klducks

snorlax doesn't need max sp def evs. Stick some more in attack, maybe around 176 attack evs is good.

I'm glad to see someone other than myself using defense EVs on Gyarados, along with maximum attack and ~222 speed.

However, I violently disagree with the use of Frustration over Return on Snorlax, but I'll try not to get into that, considering how I admit that you're a better person than me. As for Snorlax's EVs, I prefer to use 204/128/0/0/0/176 (given your choice of the Careful nature, which is worse than Adamant, despite how two Snorlax with either of the aforementioned natures can have the exact same stats with changes to EVs) for reasons that I am far too lazy to explain.

Most importantly, I am happy to hear that you've returned to playing 386. I hope that you have finally realized the infinite inferiority of RBY, and will never disgrace yourself by playing it again. Oh, and just so everyone knows, Kikuichimonji is only half-Asian.
