I apologize if this has already been answered, but I read somewhere that after a year or so of gameplay, all your berry trees die. I also heard something about Celebi being able to help your berry patches somehow. Someone want to clear this up?

there is a topic already disscussing this but i will answer it its jirachi not celebi and everythign involving time will be messed up so no more planting berrys

I've heard that too...
NOA made a mess up and all the clock things stop... the Jirachi disc you get from preordering PC gives you Jirachi, and it uploads info to fix the clock...
if you dont get PC, like me... I'm not sure what's going to happen... I dont do much with berries, but it wont be the same without them... maybe NOA will let you mail in your carts so they will fix them... or you can use a friends PC...
