First, Metagross isn't legendary, but to answer your question, here's a list of the legendaries that I know off the top of my head from the games up until now.
Articuno
Zapdos
Moltres
Mewtwo
Mew
Raikou
Entei
Suicune
Ho-Oh
Lugia
Celebi
Regirock
Regice
Registeel
Groudon
Kyogre
Rayquaza
Latios
Latias
Jirachi
Deoxys

To answer your second question, a Nintendo event is an organized event where they preview new games, or new additions to TCGs. The Pokemon you can only aquire from said event are Deoxys, Celebi, the others you either have to catch, or aquire by other means. For example, Jirachi is only available from the disk that few people got by pre-ordering Pokemon Colloseum for GCN about a year ago.

Heres a list of where to get the Pokemon in the games that work together starting from Ruby/Sapphire.
Articuno:
-Fire Red/Leaf Green/Pokemon XD Gale of Darkness
Zapdos:
-Fire Red/Leaf Green/Pokemon XD Gale of Darkness
Moltres:
-Fire Red/Leaf Green/Pokemon XD Gale of Darkness
Mewtwo:
-Fire Red/Leaf Green
Mew:
-Event
Raikou:
-Pokemon Colloseum(GCN)/Fire Red/Leaf Green
Entei:
-Pokemon Colloseum(GCN)/Fire Red/Leaf Green
Suicune:
-Pokemon Colloseum(GCN)/Fire Red/Leaf Green
Lugia:
-Event/Pokemon XD Gale of Darkness
Ho-Oh:
-Event/Pokemon Colloseum(GCN)
Celebi:
-?
Regirock:
-Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald
Regice:
-Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald
Registeel:
-Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald
Groudon:
-Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald
Kyogre:
-Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald
Rayquaza:
-Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald
Jirachi:
-Pokemon Colloseum(GCN) Preorder Disk
Deoxys:
-Event

Well, you can get those people by means of cheating, but that's not in the spirit of gaming. As for Mew and Celebi, to get them so you can use them with games past Ruby/Sapphire, there is no fair way to determine how to catch them yet, though you can use cheats to get them via Game Shark, Action Replay, and various other devices.

Actually, there is another way to get Entei, Raikou and Suicune. In FireRed and LeafGreen, one of the three starts appearing at random after you beat the game. The one you get will be the one that has a Type advantage against your starter. So:

1, If you chose Bulbasaur, Entei will appear

2, If you chose Squirtle, Raikou will appear

3, If you chose Charmander, Suicune will appear

You'll need a Master Ball to catch them.

Oh yeah, forgot about that. Though you don't need the Master Ball, it just helps if you don't want to spend a long time tracking them down.

I'll add that to the list now.

Mew is an Emerald event legendary. He can be found on Faraway Island with the Old Sea Map.

Forgot that as well, I'll add it.

There are two LEGENDARY POKEMON name GOLDUCK and ARCANINE that you can obtain by evolving PSYDUCK and GROWLITH, respectively. Also, you should be aware that MEW and MEWTWO are not LEGENDARY POKEMON. RTFM IMO.

Legendary in the sense that there's only one per cartridge.

Does that mean that Sudowoodo is a legendary pokemon.

No, because he can be hatched from an egg.

Legendary in the sense that there's only one per cartridge.

Yeah, but they were created, so they aren't really "legendary"...

Mabye there is a better way to describe the pokemon that have only one per cart, and cannot be egged.

Like, mabye "unneggable-exclusives"? Or, just, "Noeggex"?

Lol, that's good, yeah it's confusing, but they still technically count. I agree that there should be a different term for them though, how about "Not Technically Legendary, but They Still Count Dammit", ok, that's not that great an idea, but it's less confusing.

Where do they appear?
They show up randomly around Kanto after you get the National dex.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't I already say they appear at random? Which means you can never predict where you'll encounter them first. It could be on Route 15, just outside Pallet . . . you never know.

I got my Entei on Route 2, but I'd completed the Islands quest before I even tried to search. What's cool about the big kitties in FR/LG is that they play different encounter music like they do in Crystal, but the music in FR/LG isn't nearly as scary as it is in Crystal. All they do in FR/LG is add another high-pitched line of notes behind the normal music. In Crystal, the big kitty encounter music is a really creepy, high-pitched remix of the normal music that sounds so different than the normal music that hearing it sends shivers down your spine. You know full well that you're about to battle a big kitty! It rules!

Raikou and Entei knows roar, so Arena Trap, Shadow Tag, Mean Look, Spider Web, and Block won't work for very long. But Suicune doesn't know it so he might be a little easier to catch, especially with a net ball.
