Painful Truth
10-05-2005, 11:51 AM
I am proud to announce that the Gateway Clipper Fleet (http://www.gatewayclipper.com) will be hosting two huge tournaments in the early part of 2006. This thread will give you some advanced info on these tournaments, any changes or updates will be announced here so be sure to check back regularly. The description of the tournaments are as follows:
2006 YU-GI-OH THREE RIVERS GRAND CHAMPIONSHIP
Date - February 26th 2006
Description - 2006 Yu-Gi-Oh THREE RIVERS GRAND CHAMPIONSHIP
Location - Aboard the docked cruise ship "MAJESTIC" at the Gateway Clipper Fleet (http://www.gatewayclipper.com) Dock located in Station Square downtown Pittsburgh Pa.
Details - Think you got what it takes to be one of the best Yu-Gi-Oh players on the East Coast? well PROVE IT! The 2006 Yu-Gi-Oh Three Rivers Grand Championship is the place where you can do just that! Players from all over the nation are invited to duke it out on the water in a grueling swiss format tournament to decide who will be crowned the one and only Three Rivers Grand Champion. Registration is 8 AM - 10 AM. Play begins immediately after registration ends. The format for the Yu-Gi-Oh! Regional Tournaments is Swiss with a cut to the Top 8. For players unfamiliar with Swiss format, the number of rounds of play will be determined by attendance and players can participate in each round, win or lose, until the Swiss rounds are over. After the Swiss rounds, the Top 8 players will participate in Single Elimination finals. The Deck used for dueling must contain a minimum of 40 cards. Aside from this minimum limit, your Deck can contain as many cards as you like.
In addition to your dueling Deck, you can also have 15 additional cards in a separate pile known as the Side Deck. The Side Deck allows you to modify your Deck to better suit your strategy during a Match.
Between Duels, you can exchange any card from your Side Deck with any card in your Deck - as long as you end up with the same number of cards that your Deck began the Match with.
The Side Deck you create must contain exactly 15 cards at the beginning of a Match. In other words, if you don't have enough cards to create a 15 card Side Deck, you cannot use one at all.
In any Match, the Deck and Side Deck combined cannot contain more than 3 copies of the same card. Also, be aware of Forbidden and Limited Cards.
This tournament will also feature a VERY SPECIAL SIDE EVENT CHALLENGE that will truly test your Yu-Gi-Oh skills. This event will be announced on January 1st!
Prizes - a list of prizes will be announced in full on January 1st 2006! While the complete list of prizes is going to remain a secret until then, we can tell you that the winner will recieve an amazing prize package, a gorgeous one of a kind plaque dubbing him/her Grand Champion, Free admission to the PES regional tournament held at the Gateway Clipper on March 25th, And an EXCLUSIVE playmat. Prize packages will also be awarded to the top 7 players from the finals and semi-final rounds. also individual prizes will be awarded to the top 50 players as well as prizes for side events, and door prizes.
More information on this tournament will be announced as it becomes available, this tournament is an official UDE sanctioned tournament but will not be a regional tournament, therefore no nationals invites will be awarded at this particular tournament.

Both tournaments will feature amazing inteligent lighting and VIDEO displays. A full cash snack / soda bar will be available, and we will also be featuring seattle's best coffee (for parents and players) and much more. Many other sponsors will be added and various side events and special contests will be announced as the date draws closer. also a link to the official website for these tournaments will be announced and placed in this thread in the near future.
Please keep all discussion clean, we look forward to seeing EVERYONE at these tournaments. This will also be a great place for many of our local teams (i.e. Evolution, Krispy Kreme, Team Parkway, Savage, Etc....) to face off and show what they can do. If anyone has any questions feel free to ask them here or PM me.

The gateway clipper has not listed it on their site yet, and it probably wont be listed until 2006. However the tournaments and dates have been confirmed. In the mean time all information on these tournaments will be announced in this thread. A website for both tournaments is being constructed and will be finalized in the next few days. Both tournaments will be held aboard the docked Majestic (which is the flagship vessel of the fleet, It is the big boat shown at the top of their homepage). If anyone has any questions on directions, parking, or anything else you can ask them publically here or you can PM me, If you would like you can PM me and i will give you my direct phone number at the Gateway Clipper if you have additional questions. PES will also be listing the march 25th date on their website once they release their 2006 regional schedule. From what i have read it looks like we are going to have some great competition at these tournys. I look forward to seeing you all there. More details will be posted in the next few days, including one very exciting announcement. STAY TUNED

How much is registration?
Painful Truth
10-07-2005, 08:15 PM
How much is registration?
registartion for both tournaments should be $15. i know for a fact the first one will be, the second one is at the discretion of PES (the tournament orgainzers) but they always charge $15 so i dont think it will change. As always side events and special event challenges are additional, prices for those are always announced at the tournaments. the parking lots are all owned by station square, not the gateway clipper. parking should be only $5.00 if that price changes i will announce it in this thread. The nice thing is the gateway clipper dock is surrounded by 5 huge parking lots totaling space for over 1,000 cars. parking will not be a problem :0)

hello again, this is the first of many announcements concerning the upcoming Yu-Gi-Oh tournaments at the Gateway Clipper. I will be keeping you up to date on all details of the tournaments as they progress including, Sponsor Listings, Prize Info, Side Tournaments, Etc....
Announcement: Major Side Tournament
Tournament Date: February 26th 2006
Details: As im sure many of you already know this tournament is going to be unbelieveable... Well it just got even better! I am happy to announce that in addition to the Sealed Pack side tournaments we will also be running a TAG TEAM TOURNAMENT!! that's right.... find a partner and get ready to duel because together you can comepete to become Pittsburgh's first ever Tag Team Dueling Champions!!
* Sign-ups for the Tag Team Side Tournament will be taken all day long and the tournament itself will begin sometime around the 4th or 5th round of the main tournament. Players can not compete in both tournaments at the same time. But, if you find you're having a bad day in the main tournament don't sweat it.... just grab your teammate and let the dueling continue!
* This tournament will be run in advanced format but will utilize a Special Forbidden / Limited List created especially for this Tag Team Tournament.
* Details on the tournament rules and format will be posetd on-line shortly. The Forbidden / Limited list that will be used for this event will be posted as well and will also be available at the tournament.
* Before the tournament starts the head judge for the tournament will briefly go over the rules and format for the tournament again. just to make sure there is no confusion.
Here are a few tips to help you and your partner prepare to become Pittsburgh's first ever Tag Team Champions!
- The rules, format, and special forbidden / limited list will be posted online shortly, once posted you should select a partner and begin building your decks so that you can practice....practice....practice for the weeks leading up to the tournament.
- Pick a partner that understands your dueling style and will work well with you. Remember even the best two players at any given store may not work well as a team!!
- Make sure you bring both decks to the tournament. The one you plan to use for the main tournament and the one you plan to use in the Tag Team Tournament. i assure you they will be very different!!
- Get ready to have fun!! this is going to be a great side tournament and a great oppurtunity to compete in a way many players have never competed before in the game of Yu-Gi-Oh!
* More info on this will be posted in the days to come. Because of the fact that UDE does not have a specific structure for tag team dueling this tournament will not be applied to your personal rankings. However, it is my hope that once this tournament is a proven success UDE will use our format and rules as the initial framework for a future Tag Team Dueling program. Could you be part of history in the making??? could you and your partner help change the face of the game forever??? ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE!!
* 95% of the rules and format have already been put in place (mainly because i have been working on this for months :0) however if any of you have any suggestions that you would like to offer about the tournament or the forbidden / limited list you can email them to choffman@gatewayclipper.com i DO NOT want long winded emails or complaint emails.... As i stated this tournaments rules and format have been virtually finialized already. i am simply giving everyone a chance to have their suggestions heard. If you do email a suggestion for the forbidden / limited list please provide reason why you feel this card or cards are too powerful for tag team play (i can almost guarantee we have thought of all the cards) but no one is perfect you may come up with something we missed! Please enjoy this oppurtunity to have you're voices heard and don't abuse it or it will disappear :0)
Things are getting more exciting every day. I can already say this tournament will be by far the most fun tournament to ever be held in this region!!

NEW! - Bottomless Trap Hole, Giant Trunade
Please remember this list is for the TAG TEAM TOURNAMENT side event ONLY! The normal Forbidden/Limited list for advanced format will still be used in the main tournament.
Please stay tuned for more updates including the official format/rules post that will be coming real soon
that is quite interesting. you assumed that you had the best deck so you made a list strictly to cover two things: your deck and Cookie cutter. i can dig it. nice job chache!

well actually i didnt think i had the best deck, but burn would be very strong in this format if not controlled. could you imagaine a team each getting a cannon out on one turn? and what if your opponets both put out 2 chain energys on turn one, everyone would be paying 2000 to play a card. i worked on this list for weeks and talked it over with a few select people before finalizing it. I think it is an awesome list for tag team format, i actually wish i was playing now :0) it will allow for the game to be battled out with monsters cards and teammate strategy... rather than tech and loop holes. we had lots of discussions and had to find some really obsure cards that normally are not too great but would be deadly in this format (i.e. needle ceiling, morphing jar #2) and even though we havent finished the format/rules post yet i will give you this in advance. YOU WILL BE ABLE TO USE POLYMERIZATION ON ONE OF THE MONSTERS ON YOUR QUARTER OF THE FIELD AND ONE OF THE MONSTERS ON YOUR TEAMMATES QUARTER OF THE FIELD TO FORM A FUSION MONSTER. yep....just like the cartoon, you could use poly to fuse your monster with theirs, now just sit back and think of all the startegy you and your opponet could build into your decks!!!

Cannon only counts your amount of standby phases AND your opponent.
and its Wave Motion Cannon, not Wave of Motion Cannon.
And just wondering, what about destiny board?
and exodia for that matter....

ummm i think i know how the card works thanks
wave of motion cannon was a type-o
and as for destiny board how would you possibly keep it out long enough to complete it??? you would get heavied or dusted long before you could ever pull it off. plus teammates do not share a field the field is broken down into quarters so you would have to get the whole destiny board combo yourself. exodia would not work because you and your opponet do not share a hand, therefore you would have to get all the pieces of exodia on your own. trust me this has been playtested and the list was devised by myself (judge, TO, one of the top 3 players in pennsylvania and two time nats qualifier, not to mention goning 8-2 at nats2005) and level 3 judges. we have everything covered. too bad you live in australia it would be cool if you could come and play it. im sure you would have a blast!

If you believe that Wave-Motion Cannon counts your opponents standby phases then you are wrong.
"Send this card on the field to the Graveyard during your Main Phase. Inflict Direct Damage to your opponent’s Life Points equal to the number of your Standby phases that have passed after this card was activated x1000 points."
What if a player in either team was to get Exodia? It is not hard to pull off in some speedy versions. Ecspecially Manticore+Card of Safe Return combo.. or Heart of the Underdog.
I do not care about shared hands but if they were to draw into Exodia what would happen? A player "may" (Always a possibility that should be ready for) pull off destiny board and get all the necessary 5 cards placed down on the field. ( It may seem hard... but it can be done in good enough decks )

i know how wave works, it was a misprint. i meant to say if someone and their teammate both got wave out it would be 2000 right away that could be unleashed on 1 player.
i dont know how you guys play down under but we dont have a big destiny board problem in the states :0). it would be a waste to try it in a tag team tournament and that players would most likely lose right away
and whats the difference between someone drawing into exodia in tag team or 1 on 1? in both cases it would be luck. and if you're lucky enough to get it then the game would end and your team deserves to win. all the opposing team would have to do is side deck next game and own them. trust me you're talking to someone who knows exactely what they are doing. to tell you the truth not to be mean or anything, but i really dont have time to sit here and answer stupid "what if" scenerios. my reputation speaks for itself and everyone here knows we have everything under control and IT WILL be the best and most competitive tag team duling system ever created. it has been developed and tested by some of the best players on the east coast not to mention one of the best level 3 judges in the game today, who is also a writer for metagame.thanks for the input but we are just fine here!

I was just wondering what would happen in that situation. We dont have a "destiny board problem", i mean the meta is either chaos, or random starter deck stuff.
I would love to go to that tournament and show you how well these otks can work.

trust me otk's get shut down here pretty easily in this meta, they are so easy to beat with just a few side decked cards. most people will probably run e-hero decks in the tag team tournament because you can "poly" with one of your mosters and one of your teammates. that will make the tournament very interesting. it will allow for some very complex and fun team combo decks. it will most certainly be one of the most fun side tournaments ever. it sure beats the hell out of sealed pack ":0). it would be cool to have someone from another country play in this. you should check on plane ticket cost :0). we still have till february :0)

i am writing this post to inform everyone that the Gateway Clipper Fleet has CANCELLED both the tournament in February and the regional tournament in March.
According to the Gateway Clippers law firm Blumling & Gusky these tournaments would violate the Gateway Clippers Liquor and Riverboat Gambling guidelines.
I have spent the past two weeks arguing that these tournaments IN NO POSSIBLE WAY could violate any liquor laws (since liquor will not even be onboard and because these tournaments are held in the morning to late afternoon) and especially not any gambling laws. Yu-Gi-Oh is not a game of chance where everyone plays with the same cards like in poker or texas hold em'. therefore i cannot see how Blumling & Gusky can consider Yu-Gi-Oh a game of chance, which would violate Pennsylvania State gambling laws. (in that case i guess everywhere that holds a Yu-Gi-Oh tournament could be fined)
I have fought tooth and nail for two weeks about this outrage. the whole arguement is ridicilous.
I wish to tell evryone here that even though this is not my fault i apologize. i am very upset about this, so upset in fact I HAVE RESIGNED FROM THE GATEWAY CLIPPER FLEET! thats right i quit my job over this so please do not post how mad you are about it because no one is more mad than me! i invested over 4 months of my time and effort into these tournaments just to have them cancelled for a reason that does not make any sense. Best Buy was on board as our main sponsor and they were going to donate an Xbox 360 to be awarded to the winner of the Three Rivers Grand Championship. not to mention our other sponsors Hard Rock Cafe, Barnes & Noble, Wal Mart Etc....
These tournaments were all ready to go. we had all of the sponsors lined up, our judge team was assembled, all of the audio / video equipment was booked. we had various vendors attending and setting up booths. and they were cancelled because this law firm has given the Gateway Clipper wrong information. I am very well versed in Pennsylvania State Law and after speaking to several other lawyers, i have confirmed that Yu-Gi-Oh does not qualify as a game of chance because each player plays with their own deck compiled from their own cards that they have previously purchased. therfore the deck becomes the intilectual property of the players and can not be considered "community". and because players are not playing with community cards (ie. each player drawing from the same deck) it CAN NOT be considered a game of chance. HOWEVER the Gateway Clipper Fleet has chosen to listen to their law firm and even though the info is wrong they have decided to cancel the tournaments.
So once again i apologize for any inconvience but please try to understand how i feel. i had done so much work and had put together two of the biggest tournaments you would have ever seen, only to have them cancelled for a reason that is at beast flawed. i am currently in talks with the Mall at Robinson and the Pittsburgh Mills Mall to see if i can relocate the tournaments there.
Thanks for all of your support and rest assured that i will continue to work on these tournaments and find a new location. most businesses do not give TCG players any respect, they think you are just kids and it doesnt matter if they dissapoint you. well i feel different and im not going to stop just because of a group of lawyers who would rather offer wrong information than take the time to investigate the game and how it is played so that they can make an educated decision.
I will keep you informed of any changes and i will let you know if we reach an agreement with one of the malls to reschedule the tournaments.
until then please consider the tournaments CANCELLED as per the Gateway Clipper Fleets request.

Some people just don't quite get what we're about. Apparently it's something that's "up to no good." I certainly hope that they feel they lost someone good when you quit...
Anyways, despite all that crap... Team Sie7en should be at the Feb. 19th regionals.
See you there.

Wow, that sucks. I was really looking forward to these tournies. Defending the honor of Pittsburgh aganist all visitors and such. I really hope you do get it rescheuled, it seemed you just didn't set up a YGO tourney, but you set up a major event that just happens to have the tourney has the main attraction. I will be ready to attend if you can get it somewhere else.
.....and winning an Xbox 360 from beating people in YGO would just be too sexy to pass up.
