Personally, i think it's going to be a great movie, i don't know about anyone else. I'd really like to see how they recreate all the old monsters and make them life-like. Thoughts, comments, air it out here...

Movies made from video games rarely are good movies, the fans of the game just refuse to admit they suck.
But who know, maybe this movie's different...
its more over, they needed ot get a better acter then the Rock, I mean come on, hes a great wrestler, but he's a horrible acter, the only reason ppl see him is casue hes the Rock, the story looks good, of ocurse I will see it, but I hope his acting doesn't kill the movie.

My prediction: the acting will be just good enough to keep people from laughing, the plot will only exist to move the characters from one fight scene to the next, and the dialogue will be used primarily to fill in the brief gaps where guns aren't going off.
It'll get horrible reviews, make millions of dollars and be completely forgotten within a month.

Oh boy, another craptacular movie based on a game.
In two years, people will be saying...
"Remember that movie based on Doom?"
"...No."
Really.

i thought they were making a metroid movie, i didnt know they already made one
MEtroid Movie, they would have to get the best actress, and Miyomoto as a writer to make sure that was good, cuase iwould expect the best form that.
Zelda movie, same as Metroid, but if they got a holywood hunk to play Link, thne it would just be ruined, they wuold nned ot get a actor, that no one really knows, and be a great actor, to make that movie good.
But Doom, like I said, will end up sucking.

I rmeber when Zelda OT came put, ppl talked about a movie, and it would be cool, and it would be kinda hard, it would have to be like a trilogy or something. Course me and my firneds made a Zelda movie, it was really crappy, but it was a bunch of kids, and our swords were lightsabers, lol.
But if they did MEtroid, DO NOT MAKE IT ANYTHIGN LIKE TOMB RADIER TRYING TO APPEL TO SEX HUNGERY TENNAGERS. GOd those movies sucked, lol. Give MEtroid dignity

How? Zelda is an imaginative, dream like series, and Hollywood is money. I don't see the two fitting.
If they did make a movie of it however, Orlando Bloom naturally has to play Link. I'm pretty sure it's on his birth ceritficate somewhere.

If they keep up with the game, there shouldn't be much sex appeal. Unless there's a mod in the movie where you can see her in a bathing suit of course.
yes but Hollywood would screw around with it and make it like that, u know they would. I jsut don't want ot see that.

The Doom trailer makes me think of 'Aliens'. Seems like so many of those movies are so similer. They take the plot of 'Aliens' and rework it to fill the needs of the filmaker
Something goes wrong, a team of Marines go in, find that the problem causes people to get changed into the problem, people die, the place has to be blown up or something, the star of the movie (and mabey a couple others) gets out in time.
Personally, I would like to see a remake of Super Mario Brothers. Something that's more like the games (only not based in a 2D world).

Of all the games to pick, why pick Doom?
I mean, c'mon, it's just like:
Resident Evil
Aliens
And other stupid, crappy monster shooting movies.
Nobody wants to see that junk over, and over again.
At least make a movie about an original game like Zelda.
If they made a Zelda movie I would see it the day it comes out.

It already doesn't seem to have much to do with the game beyond the setting. It mentioned about mapping the rest of the human genome (which I'm pretty sure has already been completed). I'm also pretty sure that no mention of Betruger or any of the other characters was mentioned, and as anybody who played the game knows, all the squads died, and only one player who was all alone the entire game made it out alive.
But hey, by my standards, this movie has it all: Big guns, big boobs, big monsters, and big explosions. That's all I've ever really asked for.

Hey hey again, this is yet another official thread by me.
So being the HUGE fan of the Doom series I am, I decided with the movie coming out and the release of Doom 3 (like 3 months ago) that this was finally needed.

Is this about the movie or the games as well?
I'm a veteran of the games (been playing since I was 5 ie 1994) and I absolutely love them. Doom3 I own, but my computer isn't powerful enough to get the most out of it. I heard it gets good though.
Doom 1 and 2 are classics; they started a generation, as well as played an important part in my life. I'm into the Unreal series more, but I love going back to play Doom every so often.
Anyways, the movie... I don't really know what to expect. There isn't much to the game (1&2 anyway) that can make for a good plot. While you are supposed to rid the Phobos and Deimos stations of demons from Hell, I wouldn't find that to be very entertaining to watch. Doom3 is more movie like though, and the trailer for DooM definitely reminds me of Doom3.
The cast... The Rock sorta does remind me of your character in the original Doom. I guess he's a good fit.
I'm looking forward to seeing this, but I'll go in expecting the worst. I guess it'll be more enjoyable when it exceeds my low expectations.
BlackChaosDemon

Touche' it's about the movie and the games.
As for the movie...the song is remixed Switchback by Celldweller, and the demons are done by the guy who created the original Aliens in the Aliens trilogy. So that's generally cool. The only odd thing I'm seeing is that when someone goes to kill a demon it shows a clip from the game firing at the demo instead of a person. This very well could just be a theatrical bit, but it's all too reminiscent of the House of the Dead bomb.

Just thought I'd let you know about the first thread. Merge 'em perhaps?
Personally, I think it's going to be horrible. Another game movie that can't even try to stick to the freakin' storyline. The monsters in the movie even look the same as the Doom 3 ones, yet they're "mutants". It's a softer version of the original hardcore games.
I love the games and have played all kinds of mods. I left my copy of the collector's package at home, so I'm at college with only Duke Nukem 3D, which isn't bad, but it's not Doom.

i love these games. My dad is in the air force, and he used to have a job that required him to fly on commercial planes alot to go to meetings back in 1994-1995. to help him pass the time, he put doom on the laptop that government gave him so he could play them while on commercial filghts, i saw him playing it once when i was like 4, asked to play, and the rest is history. i hope the movie is good, though i have low expectations. im gonna have to go with my friends or else sneak into it though, because my mom wont let me go because it is rated R and my dad cant take me because he is stationed in Qatar for 5 months.

Doom paved the way for Quake, which sorta paved the way for Unreal, which sorta paved the way for Halo, Unreal Tournament and other modern day shooters.
I don't know of any pre-Doom shooters... maybe the classic Duke Nukem side-scrolling games, but those weren't First Person.

you forget: duck hunt :p
Ohhh...good point.
Here's some information taken from Wikipedia
Turns out Doom was released first in 1993, but since Marathon was released in 1994, they pretty much were being created at the same time
Unlike some other similar games of that era (for example, id Software's Doom) Marathon and its sequels, Marathon 2: Durandal and Marathon Infinity were notable for their intricate plots.
Also, it said something about Doom going to have a more intracate plot, but that was cut, so if it had been included, would it have been released after Marathon?
I think the only reason that Marathon doesn't get any credit is because it was Mac-only (however, this may have been before the infamous Macrosoft monster appeared as we know it today).
The same kind of thing could be applied to Halo. If it hadn't been on the Xbox, would it be as well known, would it still have been as popular? granted, it was going to be playable by PCeeies (made that word up) at the same time. But if Halo had been just for Mac, would it have been delared obscure as opposed to 'revolutionary'? (or whatever it was called)
All I want to see in the movie is the 4 minute scene where it's in first person. That would be so awesome.

That's fine, but you don't need to spam the topic if you don't have anything meaningful to say.
Personally, I don't care what the reviewers say, let alone a network run by Microsoft. Some of the Rock's material isn't that bad, which is why I'll wait to judge Doom until I see it. However, it's based on a video game plot that was butchered, so it can't have much to offer besides decent action . . . which doesn't appear very exciting either.
There has never been a good game movie. Ever. Period. I'm hoping Advent Children, while not a film in theaters, can somewhat be the beginning of an uphill climb for game movies.

ill copy/paste something i wrote on another site:
ok, it just about met my expectations. I REALLY enjoyed the FPS part. it was good, but the only thing that even resembles the original video game is the logo. they even changed the BFG from meaning "Big ******** Gun"to "Bio-Force Gun"(though sarge eventually dubs it its original name). and one more thing, when destroyer was battling that hell knight in the pit, there were a couple of 1980's-early 90's looking computers down there. i mean wtf, its supposed to be year like 2250 or something.
ill right a more detailed analisys in the morning if i have the time and feel like it.
once again, ill say it: THE FPS PART ******** OWNED

Just came back from seeing it.
Its really a good movie except there is one major flaw. Its basically 20mins short of being 2hrs, yet it takes at least 1hr for the plot to finally explain itself.
Other then that, it is good. The first person motion towards the end almost made the whole ticket for it worth it.
Is it worth seeing again, sure. But more then twice its worthless. It might be a good DVD to buy depending on what features they add.
