What exactly in the pokemon XD do you expect to have in the game. I personally expect in the VS section they would let you chose different courses and battle ground

Technically they're "Shadow Pokémon," and in XD the bad guys make a Shadow Lugia codenamed XD001. He's supposed to be completely evil and unable to be purified, but there is a way to purify him. It's kinda complicated, but it works.

Colosseum and XD are Pokémon RPGs. They take place in the Orre region where wild Pokémon are extremely scarce. The only way to catch Pokémon is to "snag" them from another trainer. Fortunately, all the Pokémon that are snaggable are Shadow Pokémon that need purifying, so it's more like rescuing them than stealing them. You get a device that breaks the Poké Ball force field surrounding a Pokémon (the one that makes your Poké Balls bounce off and makes the Pokémon able to be zapped into its trainer's Poké Ball), and allows you to weaken and capture it. In order to purify the Shadow Pokémon, you must battle with them and give them cologne massages. A shadow Pokémon can go into a hyper state, in which it goes out of control. In battle, you have the option to "Call Out" to them, which will snap them out of hyper mode and help to purify them further. What sets shadow Pokémon apart from those that are non-shadow is a shadowy aura and Shadow-type attacks. In Colosseum, shadow Pokémon only knew Shadow Rush, which is like a more accurate and slightly weaker Take Down attack. In XD, there are 13 new Shadow-type attacks (Shadow Rush is gone, btw) which are super-effective against non-shadow Pokémon. In order to fully purify Shadow Pokémon (battling, calling out, and cologne massages aren't enough), you need to take them to a special place (in Colosseum, a Celebi Shrine; in XD, a Pokémon Lab) and put them inside a chamber that will begin the final stage of purification.

I don't think hyper mode exists in XD. My Nintendo Power said that shadow pokemon goes to reverse mode but didn't say anything about hyper mode.

This site: www.serebii.net has all the XD info anyone needs. Also, some stuff I read that needs clarification. First the purification lab is not the final step to purification. It's simply a way to purify your shadow pokemon, and, the only way to purify Shadow Lugia. There's more, the three johto starters are gonna be available and they will be able to learn Frenzy Plant, Hydro Cannon, and Blast Burn. I'm definitely at least trying this out when I get the chance.

I heard the game isn't improved that much over Colusseum. So I think I'll wait until it turns into a player's choice game for $19.99 from the lack of sales and then I'll buy it :(

Is XD out already? If I had a GCN I'd probably get it.

I just came from the store and yep it's definately available. I think it goes for like $49. I wanna play it too and have a GC but don't have much free time lately. I haven't even used my GBA for over a month now.

Meh, I'll probably get XD anyway.

Got $49?

I got the game 2 days ago and btw, shadow rush is in the game. It is not a move you have to deal with early on in the game. And reverse mode, the pokemon does about the same damage to itself as if it was confused every turn after it attacks. Also, once the pokemon are purified, you can take them to the Agate Village shrine and get the unshadowed. Despite what Interfed said, you can use cologne, calling out, and battling still work but are not as fast as the purify chamber.

Yes, Shadow Rush is in there, but it only does 55 damage and no recoil.
