I am talking about the band... If you are a fan of DISTURBED, what is your fav song/album/member? What do you think their 3rd album will be like? Will it be another "The Sickness" or will it suck like aa misquito in the summer on a hot, humid day?

The answers to my questions:

I am a fool for Voices
Gotta say The Sickness
Dan Donegan is "da man"...

I can't pick either album as a better cd. But My favorite song has got to be Remember. I'm hoping that the new album will be great, and does anyone know when it is supposed to be released???

Love Disturbed. Saw them on the Music As A Weapon II tour. Awesome show. I loved The Sickness, but not Believe as much. Hopefully their next album will reflect The Sickness. My favorite song is probably either The Game or Droppin' Plates...but I also like Shout(the remake).

It was a joke. A lot of people who don't like nu-metal that much call Distrubed STURBED and Slipknot DA KNOT.

Some of their fans do it too.....strange.

golem- You sayin' The Sickness sucked?!?
It was their BEST ALBUM TO DATE!!!

It may have been their best album, however, when the band itself is horrible, an album that defines the band at their peak will be horrible, too.

What would I do? I'd simply ask them for justification, then go from there. If they could provide justification, a debate would start. Otherwise, I'd tell them to...leave me alone (read between the lines) or simply ignore them, unless they happened to mention some terrible band that was cannon fodder; then I'd point out all the flaws with that band's music.

I liked the Sickness, but the song "Liberate" on their second CD is probably my favorite Disturbed song. But, I also liked "Stupify", "The Sickness", and "Violence Fetish" to name a few.

Golem- I really don't want to get into another argument with you...

Then avoid it if you choose. Well placed cursing can be used to great effect as a means of driving an emotional point home, however, pointless cursing such as yelling "MOTHER****ER!" over and over is simply to make people feel "cool" and "rebellious" for listening to it. This is why I don't like it. However, it serves its purpose quite well, I can remember the stage in life where I enjoyed it.... :)

TheOneSin

It isn't random screaming...It's placed deep in the root of the lyrics.

Blade Golem
04-08-2005, 09:21 PM
I never said it was random, I said it was pointless, as it is in all the other Disturbed songs that employ such a thing...it may fit in the lyrics, however, it serves no purpose other than to try to act tough and be "controversial".

I tend to lean towards the Believe album. It shows a smidge more variety.
The sickness is great when you're in one of those moods, but it can get monotoneous.

I'm tied between "Remember" and "Mistress" on believe
And picking a single track from The Sickness is just cruel.

I have to say, love them or hate them...they have one hell of a vocalist in David. I'm not even a vocalist, but when I write anything musically, I try to envision him doing his thing in my head to see if i'm on the right track.
He is an inspiration to me.

Blade Golem

Hm, what makes you believe he's such a great vocalist? I'm curious. He's nothing special when it comes to technical ability, nor when it comes to pure conviction and ability to get his point across. Perhaps someone can help me understand what makes them believe he's so good.

His singing is NOT great. He doesn't have much to speak of when it comes to actual technical ability, and he certainly doesn't have a "beautiful" voice or anything of the sort to compensate for lack of talent, nor does he have the passion necessary to make the vocal style that he chooses work (SEE: early Sepultura for an example of a very passionate vocalist with a limited range). He's a standard nu-metal singer, not great.

As for me getting up on stage in front of millions of people and singing as well as he does...typical defensive reaction. You seem to think it takes some kind of effort to "sing" as well as he does. All it takes is alot of yelling to train your voice for it, although you have to restrain yourself somewhat for the occasional scream so you don't hurt your vocal chords. So...could I sing that way? Most likely, as my voice is naturally loud so it lends itself well to yelling, as well as tone-deaf singing, however the occasional screams may give me a bit of trouble (I'm capable of them, but it puts some strain on my voice). However, all of this is irrelevant. My being or not being able to "sing" on his level doesn't affect his ability as a vocalist or my ability to judge the talent of a vocalist. He's not a great vocalist, whether I can sing like him or not.

I'm not trying to start a flame-war, I'm being a realist. Only part of what I stated was opinion, some of it was fact, so let's not start the "great vocalist is based on opinion only" type of thing...technical ability isn't something based off of opinions.

I have heard many other great vocalists like the guy from Queensryche and the guy from Shinedown... Those guys have true power... Asking a question about the vocalist and using a well thought out argument to debunk the theories that people hold about him isn't trying to start a flame war. While it may turn into one if people don't have an intelligent response and choose to angrily flame me for "insulting" one of their favorites instead, that isn't the aim behind the question. If I was trying to start a flame war the question I posed would have looked something like this: ***** YOU! HOW CAN YOU LIKE THAT VOCALIST?! HE SUCKS, HE'S THE WORST VOCALIST I'VE EVER HEARD!

I'll restate it for clarity before someone misreads my post. THAT WAS JUST AN EXAMPLE.

Now there is no way you are going to get away with poorly bashing the band without telling us who you listen to.

Personally, I really like the new album, even though some songs sound similar. I've always been a fan, but with this album, I feel like I can jump right into the crowd.

4) Ten Thousand Fists (album) sounds like a mix between The Sickness and Believe (album) to me.

Most people who know mainstream rock music should know disturbed (http://www.disturbed1.com/main.html). Those who know them know the dramatic changes they make from album to album.I think its awesome no matter what.

Their first album, The Sickness, was sort of a satanic heavy metal type of vibe to it.

Their second album, Believe, had pretty much the complete opposite (which i believe is the most dramatic change of all of them.) with a big religious message throughout.

Their third album, 10,000 Fists, is a pretty level mix of the two with a bit of a political message involved.

I think the next album they will have out will be fairly similar to 10,000 fists in that its sort of a mix of all the styles theyve picked up in the past.

What do you think their next album will be like and will it do as good as the first 3 (especially 10,000 fists.)?

Most people seem to like that "horrible line" seen as that's what got them noticed in the first place. And Dan is my idol becuase I grew up listening to him. He may not be the best (far from it actually), but i still like him. One last thing...easy riffs? yeah they are easy, but I'd like to see your five year old brother play the solo to stricken. And do you play guitar?, because if not, how would you know if the riffs are easy.Even easy riffs are sometimes hard to play.

Don't tell me ""OH WAHHAHA AHHH AHHH HAAHHAHAHA!" doesn't get repetitive and boring; because it does for me and probably many others.

I've been playing guitar for almost 5-6 years now.

I know that the Disturbed guitarist only uses power chords. If you don't know already, power chords are the EASIEST "chords" to play on a guitar. I literally learned how to exploit power chords within my first month of playing. He's a "professional" musician that only uses power chords, pretty ****ing pathetic...

Sure, there are a few exceptions, but for the most part it's probably:

Strum power chord A
Move hand
Strum power chord B

Rinse and repeat with your hand moved a bit and some power chords repeated for good measure.

Easy riffs are not sometimes hard, maybe for you, but certainly not for me.

Millenium_Master
02-19-2006, 11:34 PM
Ok, lets see...

How is their guitarist your "idol?"
I mean, the riffs are so basic it's not even funny. I can teach my 5 year old brother how to play most of their songs if I really wanted to...

You didn't want to make just one thread?
You could have EASILY said in this thread "ALSO, theys gots a show comen up so lets me knows if you are liek goin or sumthin!! YEAH?!?11pkwfonj!!1 GO DISTURBED!111$E343"

There's nothing not to like?
How about his horrible vocal line of "OH WAHHAHA AHHH AHHH HAAHHAHAHA!" over and over and over again...

Going by your profile, you're only 14. This is exactly why you think Disturbed is GODLY...listen to some real metal instead of what MTV rams down your throat.

I'm sorry, but Disturbed isn't good anymore. Maybe 5 years ago, but now...just no.

I'm sorry, but I'm going to have to side with WingedMachineFreak on this one.

Dan may not be the best, and I may be a huge Dimebag fan, but his riffs are NOT easy... I play guitar and I'm having trouble nailing the speed of Stricken's intro... No big... now... trying to play Stricken's solo... OUCH... I almost ripped my fingers open trying to play that... (and I've got super hard calluses). As for the power chord thing... ever hear of a little something call RHYTHM GUITAR?!?!? -_- Dan plays both Lead (solos/fills/etc) and Rhythm (the majority of the songs... lol)

Making one thread... Ok.. so he isn't that bright... lol

That vocal line isn't that bad... and it was only in one song... and he only did it, like, 2 times... Down With the Sickness pwnz...

And, just because we're 14, doesn't mean that we like the CRAP that MTV shoves down our throats. Personally, I HATE the "new rock" shiz... The only "new rock" I really like is Shinedown.

Personally, I feel that Disturbed has improved over the years. I was impressed with their first album. I was hoping for something just as good, if not better, when they came out with Believe... I was SOOO dissapointed when I heard it... =/ I didn't like the melodic, calm tone of the second album. When I heard the third album, however, I was like "Holy s**t, this is awesome." It was as hard as the first album, which I loved, but had some wicked melodies, like in the second album.

Thanks for seeing it my way and siding with me Greg. And as for the noises that David does.....yes, some of them are repetitive, but FAR from boring. Just hope that you can see it our way. And I am bright....just thought that two threads would lead to more posting opportunities.

Millenium_Master: What does Dimebag have to do with anything? He was pretty overrated, IMO. All he did was a massive amount of pinch harmonics. I think he is a good guitarist, but overrated a bit in his skill. I am also pretty certain the only reason you heard of him was because of his death or Damagplan.

Are you ****ing kidding me? How is Stricken even REMOTELY fast??? You cannot play the intro? I just listened to it and wow...how long have you been playing? A few months?

The solo...30 secongs long and half of it was just random frets. Listen to old Metallica, some Vai, Ozzy, Slayer, ****..any band that was formed before the mid 90's, then tell me how skilled Dan is.

Disturbed is just another nu-metal band with some half assed solos. You, my friends, are listening to the wrong kind of metal.

(I'm not going to post in here again because of fear of being banned and that I probably won't have any influence on your music tastes anyway...)

I don't really listen to new Metallica much, though. Aww... I'm not that good. I just learn the songs that others like/know.... learn the right way to play 'em... and procede to blow them away. Remember how stoped the guys at school were when I learned 45?... lol That was fun... ^_^

Anyway... as to answer your question about Dime, I was just saying that I prefer him to Dan, that's all. As for how long I've been playing... I've been playing for about 4 years now. It's not that my picking speed is slow (I actually have one of the fastest picking hands in our class). It's just that my fretting hand isn't that fast yet.

Once again, Kyle, thanks.. ^_^

I was talking about new bands in general, not just nu-metal bands. And I've had people dissing my favorite band all day, so yeah I'm a little pissed. Thats why you shouldnt judge my by behavior. I'm really not a bad person, I just have my moments, as does everyone. And as for him being better than me at guitar, he might be! I've never seen him play so I'm not going to criticise his guitar playing likehe did to me and Millenium_Master....Im done(finally)

Sorry for the duplicate double-post and sudden mood swing!

Disturbed is just another nu-metal band with some half assed solos. You, my friends, are listening to the wrong kind of music.

(I'm not going to post in here again because of fear of being banned and that I probably won't have any influence on your music tastes anyway...)

Just had to make a slight correction..;)

i was talking about new bands in general, not just nu-metal. And you shouldnt judge me by behavior seen as I ve had people dissing my favorite band all day! You expect me to be happy about that?! As for him being a better guitar player than me....HA....I doubt it.....HIGHLY doubt it.

You find the song really difficult to play. He finds it easy as hell to play.

I'm failing to see the leap in logic that leads you to the conclusion that he's not a better guitar player than you.

I'm not a big fan of this band, although admittedly they aren't that horrible. I find most of their songs to be more or less the alike of Nickelback, which I hate.

I've got one of their albums, Ten Thousand Fists or something. It was a bit of disappointment, as the only songs I like from there are Guarded and Stricken.

And people, please stop posting on this thread unless you have actual comments on the band, not just criticism. I know I didn't like it when Plague and Subhuman criticised nu-Metal, so I kinda feel your pain, WingedMachineFreak.

As far as ive seen, this thread has NO content at all. And arguing about something as pointless as 'who's better then who' is even more childish. Pretty much, untill someone has heard the other play any instrument at all then they can start their own bragging rights. But without further arguging, lets try to make this into a real thread:

Heavy metal band Disturbed came together through the matching of a band with a singer. Long-time friends Dan Donegan (guitar), Mike Wengren (drums), and Fuzz (bass) played together in Chicago for some time before hooking up with singer David Draiman around 1997. Draiman had grown up in a religious family from which he rebelled, being expelled from five boarding schools in his adolescence. His anger found an outlet in the thrashing sound of Disturbed, and the band built up a following on Chicago's South Side before a demo tape led to their signing to Giant Records, which released their debut album, The Sickness, in March 2000. The band gained more fans and exposure playing the main stage of the 2001 Ozz Fest, then breaking away to do their own self-described "victory lap" around the U.S. that fall. Also during this period, they managed to record a vicious new version of wrestler Steve Austin's theme song that was so good it managed to receive radio play, and was one of the many bands announced to work on a high profile Faith No More tribute album. The band stepped into the studio after stepping off of the road and began work on a new disc that would reflect their growth as a band. Feeling experimental, the group worked with producer Johnny K. and mixer Andy Wallace in order to create an album that could compare to other classic metal records they admired. Amplifying their fondness for groups like Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Pantera, and Soundgarden, Believe was released in the fall of 2002 and was recognized as a heavier, more varied, and ultimately superior record to their debut, ultimately reaching the top of the Billboard 200. The tour document Music as a Weapon II appeared in 2004, and the ambitious studio full-length Ten Thousand Fists in September 2005.

I will say though, when i was a bit younger around 12-13ish i thought this was a really good band, but then I looked into the content of most of the songs when i was around 14-15 I realized they were not as amazing as i once thought. And now being 16 when Ten Thousand Fists came out I gave them a bit more credit because they have a more solid approach to their music opposed from The Sickness which was all over the place. Just my view on the band. Even though I find other music a lot better then these guys you really have to give them credit for being able to make such a big name for themselves.

The first song on Voices (I think it's called Voices if I'm not mistaken) is definitely one of my favorites. I heard it on a movie preview years ago and fell in love with the sound. I just listened to Voices in its entirety tonight. Disturbed IS one of the greatest bands that inspires me still.

Then again, at this confusing age, I find I'm returning to a lot of things I liked some time ago.

Down with the sickness isn't my favorite, but it's good. I think my favorite is either Son of Plunder or I'm Alive.

OK I merged ALL the old Disturbed threads together. If you want to keep this one, you'll have to have SOME CONTENT and stop arguing with each other. Otherwise I'll just delete this thread and you won't be allowed another one.

More Detailed.....

Since 4 years ago, while scrolling thorough Radio stations, I heard one of Disturbed's songs titiled "Stupify". I immediately liked it and then headed down to my local HMV to buy their album "The Sickness". Even though all their songs were sick, they had several of their songs posted on AMV'a and commercials. I've never went to their concerts due to time constraints, location issues and of course Money.

I have to say I pretty much like everything I've heard by them, I've never been able to get to a concert, for pretty much the same reasons as Exiled, but they are a great band in my honest opinion.

My Top 10 (In this order):

1. Down With the Sickness
2. The Game
3. Stupify
4. Liberate
5. Voices
6. Stricken
7. Meaning of Life
8. Guarded
9. Violence Fetish
10. Pain Redefined

I have all 3 of their albums, and will continue to listen to whatever they release next i anything.

My favorite song would prolly be Down with the sickness though.

To each their own, but I love them no matter what (in all reality, 10,000 Fists is prolly my favorite album)

I'm also kinda confused by the titles of some of the songs I have (limewire is my friend)

I've got:

Conflict/Enemy
Get Psycho/Meaning of Life
I am the One/Want
and like, 2 more with names that don't really make sense (I use the names that are bolded)

Sometimes they're just called by random lyrics in the song. like Stricken could be "and I am stricken" or something.

Honestly take musical value of all of the songs on the different cds. Neither of the other two stand up to The Sickness. I really have to agree with Allen. They have some okay songs on the other two cds, but the best is The Sickness. I mean all of the songs on that cd are great where as with the other cds you have a few songs that are merely tolerable at best. Half you guys sound like posers anyway. They went in the wrong direction with their music.

As for me, the only CD of theirs I own is Believe, and I like just about every song on there, except for Liberate your mind. I listened to a few songs from Ten Thousand Fists on the radio, and I might pick up that CD if there aren't any songs as bad as The Sickness on there. (the song was OK, but the little bit in the middle was unnecessary)

It's an angry song. It's called showing emotion. The Sickness showed raw emotion, the other cds didn't have any of that. They sang but it wasn't as passionate.

I love Disturbed and own, actually bought, all three of there CDs.

The first two are very hardcore. While the third one is also hard, it has a deeper side to it and seems to be more directed at society. I don't feel TOO directed to where they have caught themselves in a corner, which is good.

The song guarded reminds me of the place I'm at and how doubtful people in Tyler County, West Virginia are of sincerity.

I also own all of the cds. The Sickness is hard as balls, Believe is less but not horrible. Ten Thousand Fists killed it. They sang about problems in the world and not raw emotion. And they took that wow factor out.

"Stricken" is probably a more mature and technical album with more depth put into it. Anyways I'd have to say "Stricken" is their best followed by the darker angst driven "Down With The Sickness"...then comes "Believe" which was pretty cool too. Overall Disturbed are pretty cool for nu-metal. Dave is my favorite member I just love his vocal style. Dan Donegan did a pretty good job on "Stricken", but he was just you average nu-metal gutarist on the first 2 albums relying mainly on down tuned chords...its nice to see him start soloing and playing around with different guitar tones.

It just shows how good of a band they are
