mine was good at the BT because it was shiney and had alot of good Fire moves

Okay, firstly, Flannery (the fire gym leader) had Torkoal. So it's impossible to go through the game without seeing it.

On the issue of genders:
Absol; in GS males had higher physical stats and females had higher special stats. HOWEVER, this is because gender was determined by DVs. So it was NOT a modifier in the same way natures are, just a way to get a rough look at a pokemon's DVs.
Catch a pokemon in RBY, check its DVs, trade it over and you'll see what I mean.

I don't know the exact formula, but for some reason, all five of my GSC shinies were female. Has anyone encountered a male shiny?

Yeah it took me like 15 min. to find one, then all i kept finding for a while was Torkoals. Thanks for the help.

IMO Torkoal makes a great in game Pokemon. What's your moveset going to be?
