Okay, I'm not an avid pokemon player that knows all the sets and skills and ways to play.

I just play thru the game, have fun...and that's about it.

So I'm sitting here and wondering who will do me more good.

Gardevoir, who is stronger than Alakazam (I think)

Or Alakazam, who can have Thunder Punch and Ie Punch, fixing my Ico and Thunder needs.

So my question is this...

Who would be me the better good?

Gardevoir the strong...thing, or Zammy the all around good guy?

IMO, zammy is stronger >_> so i'd pick zam

Depends on the other members of your team.

i like Gardevoir better

HE can at least take a hit because of his Great SD

I'm just thinking...

'Cause I'm trying to get a little bit of all the basics in (Flying, fire, fighting, rock, water) and then Zammy could provide electric, ice and psychic...

If I do do that...I'd need to catch an abra...which means I'd need to get someone with Mean Look. Meh. >.>;

No really... If you're done with the game, use Woboffet. An ultra ball usually catches Abra on the first try.

Hah, I'm just starting the game.

actually, if your zam evolved the same level abra evolved to kadabra, ( which means that you trade your kadabra on the level it evolved ) then i choose zam.
i also hate powers that are all the same type ( like gardevoir )

Yeah, I caught an Abra in Sapphire...so I'm gonna teach it some random TM and then train it up to a Kadabra (lv 16), then I'll trade it to my Emerald cart and keep it there as a Zammy.

i like gardevoir better cause i have a level 85 one that i raised from level 4. i guess it sorta grew on me. i like him cause of his very high Special attack and Special deffense

Zam is best like you said because of the versatillity he has...plus he has been there since the beginnning and has'nt done us wrong yet, but this damn gardevoir comes into the picture and tries to throw him of the top spot...choose Zam and show everyone he is still the best around.

Alakazam is the special version of aerodactyl, the most awesome physical fast hitter around. Use ZAM.

If you're just starting the game, then I'd choose Gardivore. Sure, 'Zam can do all those punches, but you can get those AT THE END of the game (Emerald or breed in R/S). So unless you can trade it to an Emerald that has enough BPs to have it learn all three punches, I'd use Gardivore. The high Sp. Def helps. It doesn't require trade to evolve etc. If you do, by any chance have another version (you must because you're trading to evolve Kadabra), breed a Medicham with an Abra to get the punches (or teach a MALE Abra all the punches) and trade it over. That way, you can get the extra EXP boosts.

I have Sapphire and Emerald...

The only reason I really wanted Zammy is so I could have, like, a Thunder and Ice move, sincE I don't have electric or ice pokemon in my lineup.

So, yeah. I'll probably just ended up giving someone else on my team, like, Thunder and Blizzard, now that I see Zam can't learn the punches 'til Frontier.

If you Breed an Alakazam with a Hitmonchan that has all the Punches then your Abra can get them. And since Hitmonchan can only be Male, you don't need to worry about getting the right Gender cuz he'll always be Male, so you can inherit the Moves. Hitmonchan Learns all the Punches at Level 26.

...Where do I find Hitmonchan in Sapphire and/or Emerald?

Sorry, I'm rather new to the advanced generation. -_-;

Hitmonchan is in the Fighting Dojo in either Fire Red or Leaf Green. There is 1 of each for both of those versions.

If you don't have Fire Red or Leaf Green, also Alakazam can Breed with Magmar, who learns Fire Punch at Level 9. And Electabuzz who learns Thunder Punch at Level 19. I don't no about Ice Punch though.

I have Fire Red...haven't played it yet though. =P

I'll have to do that. Do I have to do anything special to be able to trade between Fire Red and Emerald? If not, then I'll just get Hitmonchan (That's different, I always chose Hitmonlee in red) and wait til it learn the punches.

After it learns them, all I have to do is find a female Zam (Damn! Mines male!) and breed them, right?

I'm not too intelligable on the breeding scene either.

Just get another, Breed your Alakazam that's Male with someone until the baby is Female. Then Train it up again and stuff until you have a Female Alakazam, then Breed with Hitmonchan. And get a (Whatever Gender you want) Alakazam with the Punches.

sixersballernum3

Okay, I get it. So if the Chan has the punches, my baby Abra will have them?

Awesome!

One question. How can I breed a male Zam and get a baby Abra?

Okay, so...

I get a female Abra in Emerald. I make it a Kadabra.

Then I get a Chan in Fire Red. I train it until it gets ICe Punch and Thunder Punch, the moves I want on my Zam.

Then I trade the Dabra over to Fire Red, and it becomes a Zam.

Then I put Alakazam and Hitmonchan into the daycare, and they have an egg.

Then I walk around for however long, and I have a (Some gender and some nature and all that stuff) Abra with Ice Punch and Thunder Punch?

And then I level up the Abra to a Dabra, and then I trade it to Emerald where I have the perfect Zam...or at least the Zam I want.

I tihkn that's how it works. Sorry if I'm wrong, and thanks a LOT for helping me.

you can use medicham to get the punches fish where the entrance to victory road is. You find luvdisc, these can be traded to the move guy and you can teach medicham all the pucnhes by him. No hitmonchan needed.

...I have one badge.

No victory road.

Hitmonchan needed.

sixersballernum3; You do not need to level up or evolve the female Abra. You can just trade it over and breed it with the male Chan and you'll get little abra's with punches.

Got Day Care?

Oh, alright. That'll save me a good 10 minutes. Thanks!

Hmm...so really the only big thing I have to do is play thru Fire Red 'til I get to the Dojo. What city is it in? I think I remember it being in Saffron but I could be wrong...my second gues would be Fuschia, but I'm probably thinking of Koga. ><

(Gee, Shiney, you just help everyone, don't you?)

It's in Saffron, north part of the city next to the Gym with Psycho-chick.

Got maps?

hope i haven't posted too late but just a word of advice : you can't trade pokemon from sapphire/ruby/emerald unless you've beaten the pokemon league. it's ok if you trade a magikarp over however

Actually, it'd mean waiting a long time, but I believe you CAN get Ice Punch and Thunder Punch on a Gardevoir, I'm pretty sure the Battle Frontier move tutor can teach them to it.

However, if this is for early game, that won't really help.

sixersballernum3
07-31-2005, 08:43 AM
Yeah, it's for early-game, but thanks for your input.

XIN0N: I've traded from Sapphire to Emerald (And vice versa, obviously) and I haven't beat the Elite Four.

Gardevoir can learn all 3 Elemental Punches via move tutor in Emerald. Gardevoir can also learn Thunderbolt. I'm undecided on which is better.

Gardevoir has a great Special Defense, but Alakazam has a great Speed.

Gardevoir can learn Thunderbolt, but Alakazam can only get the 3 Punches.

IMO, Gardevoir has a better Ability pair than Alakazam (Trace/Synchronize vs. Inner Focus/Synchronize).

I always liked Zam more, probably because it was first gen and it seemed like an old friend to me before there even was a Gardy.

Gardy is cool though, and don't forget it can WOW (BTW I always think of Gardy as a 'she' not a 'he' like some of you posted. Meh.)

As far as ability, I prefer Syncronize since it works real good with a Lum. When it works together, often they're screwed with a status condition but you're not.

Besides, my Gard once traced Truant, and believe me, it sucked, so go with sync regardless of if you pick Zam or Gardy.

Got Syncronize?

I too like Zam better. I'm not a big Pokemon player, but I started back with R/B/Y, and I always had an Alakazam.

I also think of Gardevoir as a she. Odd how that works, isn't it? I also seem to always see Zammy as a he.

Hmm.

It's a tough question because gardevior has the special power allowing it to share it's status problems but alakazam learns waaaaaaay! better moves including roleplay which would allow it to copy gardivior's special power so I'll go with zammy.

Hate to burst everyone's bubble, but grumpig>both 1v1 xD.
Thick fat + psychic resistant = they lose. Gard is a more fluid choice imo, seeing as it can handle sp.def hits quite well, and doesn't get killed in 2 hits =X. Gard can also obtain the elemental punches from emerald. If you want speed go kazam, if you want tankish sweeper go gard.

what ever! I am still going with zammy. Honestly! apart from the fact that he is way better than gardiviour he also looks heaps better!! come on!
