View Full Version : Attacks that affect all types

I've never seen a list of attacks that can affect all 17 types, though I might have missed it. If you know of one please post. But If there isn't a list somewhere, maybe we can make one. I think this would be helpful.

For example, the attack Metal Claw---even if STABd it's not very powerful, but it has the advantage of affecting all types. It is what I'll call a universal attack.

What other attacks are there that affect all types?

Do you mean all moves that nothing is Immune to, or a Moveset which will hit a Super-Effective on every type?

Here are the immunities, for those who are unsure:
Fire: Anything with Flash Fire as it's ability
Water: Anything with Water Absorb as it's ability
Electric: Anything with Volt Absorb as it's ability, or Type1 or Type2 is Ground
Ground: Anything where Type1 or Type2 if Flying
Psychic: Anything where Type1 or Type2 is Dark
Normal: Anything where Type1 or Type2 is Ghost
Fighting: Anything where Type1 or Type2 is Ghost
Ghost: Anything where Type1 or Type2 is Normal
Poison: Anything where Type1 or Type2 is Steel


Wonder Guard: Shedinja is immune to:
- Bug
- Dragon
- Electric
- Fighting
- Grass
- Ground
- Ice
- Normal
- Poison
- Psychic
- Steel
- Water

That leaves:
- Dark
- Rock

There, if you pick a moveset made of any moves from the above types, you will be guaranteed to hit every pokemon.

Lol, just realised Tyranitar gets STAB on both types. I need to get his DEF better though to deal with Fighting types...

Shedinja is also weak to Flying, Fire, and Ghost in addition to Dark and Rock. But all those types are relatively common, so Sheddy is nothing but a pansy.

than what? you have fighting and ghost and water and dark,,, none are weak to the same thing, so
BUZZ you lose.

Surf-beats fire, rock, ground
flamethrower-beats grass, bug, ice, steel
after that, well, you can only hit 2 types at a time, so a relitively good list looks like this

Surf
Flamethrower
Ice beam (dragons/flying)
Silverwind (psychic, dark)

so there it is, 12 types, leaving normal, ghost, fighting, electric, and water.
theres probably a better list, but, who cares, i posted something meaningfull, what is it, a tuesday?

Thanks to all who posted, and especially to Sir Clownmaster for the list. Did you get it off the net or somewhere or did you make it up. Just curious. If you made it up that would be scary good. I'll have to check and see about counter (with ghosts I guess) but man that is a great list you did.

Tobiasx, I think that the immunities are helpful too. I may decide to do some refining/organization/combining of the info and all the info and then post it to the Help Thread when I get time. Stay tuned.

And Leelue, yes you did post something meaningful indeed. BTW, there is a chart on the Help Thread that one of the mods asked me to include there and it's the standard Attack chart we've all seen that shows how each type affects the others.

At first it was off of the top of my head.. Then before I posted it, I went back and revised it by going off of the smogon movedex. The only things I missed were some of the normal stat lowering moves(IE: Tail Whip). Also, so you know.. I started my reply at 6:30 AM. =|

If anyone can find a more complete list, That would be great. >_>

What type is Nature Power? If it's a damaging Normal-type move, then it doesn't affect Ghosts. Secret Power doesn't hurt Ghosts, either.

They change depending on the terrain.. Secret Power can turn into Shadow Ball which hurts ghosts.

You missed out Bug on the list of things that you covered, so the list of types not hit super-effectively is:
- Bug (Fire, Flying, Rock)
- Fighting (Flying, Psychic)
- Ghost (Dark, Ghost, Psychic)
- Psychic (Bug, Dark, Ghost)
- Water (Electric, Grass)

My preference would by Flying, because that can hit Shedinja and something else on this list (Fighting), leaving Ghost, Psychic and Water not hit super-effectively. An alternative would be Rock (hits Bug, Fire, Flying & Ice super-effective).

Best idea I think would be either Hidden Power (Flying) or Rock Slide.

My suggestion, get a Dragonite (Good stats, STAB Hidden Power [Flying]), and teach it Ice Beam, Brick Break and Earthquake. I had 1 with EV training that still had 300 ATK with a Modest Nature. Even the EV's between ATK and S.ATK (252 each, and 6 on HP) and it should be fine.

For Rock Slide, get a Rhydon (yes, I know it's 4x Weak to Water and I think Grass as well) and teach it Seismic Toss by Breeding, and teach it Ice Beam, Rock Slide and Earthquake.

What places effect what Secret Power will do? Like on normal outdoor routes its Normal Type and has a 30% chance of Paralyzing. In a cave I think it's Rock Type. Maybe it's a 30% chance of Flinching. Like Rock Slide. When your Surfing I think it's Water Type. I don't know about any Special Effects though.
Thats what I know.

It's been a while since I used it but yeah the actual attack changes depending on like if you are in tall grass, or on water, or a cave. Should be easy enough to just try out and see.

Ok well I just completed putting in the attack info to the Help Thread, plus the immunity info too. I put it in Post #8 since it seemed to belong best there. Anyone interested can check it out whenever they need it. SA

On a vaguely related note, anything that resists Ghost attacks is weak to Fighting attacks.

Naw, i think i included flamethrower on my list, so sheddy dies too.
I'd like to see someone elses 4 attack list that hits at least a dozen types, that'd be cool.

Also, Psychic in Not-Very-Effective against Steel I beleive.
