View Full Version : Couple of Questions.

I have a couple of questions. First off all, I'm breeding some Marowaks, blah, blah, blah, cuz I want to get a Cubone, Rock Head, Adamant, Male. Blah, Blah, Blah. I realize my chances of gatting all those plus good IV's are really minimal. I was wondering if there are any wayes to increase the odds. I read in the Help Thread that If one of the Parents has a certain Ability and is holding an Everstone that the chance of the Baby getting that Ability is 50% And if both Parents have it and an Everstone it's a 100% chance to be tha same Nature. I havn't tried it yet but I'm wondering if there are any other things I'm missing. Someone said in the Help Thread that if you have someone with Flame Body or Magma Armor with you while your hatching eggs the amount of steps it takes to hatch is halved. But when I did this I counted the steps I took and I took about the amount that it takes to hatch a Cubone. Give or take about 50. This is, if it takes 5124 steps, or around that. I think it is. But it made no difference. I had a Slugma with Flame Body, and Magma Armor on another. I tried both, but no luck.

And the next part is, about EV's. Sigh. I thought I understood them well but now I'm confused again. I've read the Help Thread so many times but I still don't really understand it to the point were I no what to do. Which is nothing at all really. Anywayes, could someone recommend a site that explains it good or take the time to help. So each Pokemon gives a certain amount of EP's in a battle. But when your training them, why do you want only 1 EP given. Wouldn't it be better to get more and gain more states. And with the Vitamins, does 6 EV's make a State or something. And like, do you MAX out the EV's right away or later or something. I understand IV's but not this EV and EP stuff. Plz help.

ok...the everstone thing is 50%...I beleive no matter what

as for the flame body...magma armor...it is emerald only...not ru/sa

ok EV's I will do my best:

okay say you have a pokemon with 1 EV point k?....you beat it and it gives you 1 EV point towards whatever stat it is for..k?...now...say you have a Macho Brace...which doubles EV's gained...so instead of 1 you get 2...and 2 you would get 4...and so on and so forth k?

now...say you battled that pokemon with a macho brace and you get 2 EV's let's say for HP..okay...now each stat can only have a maximum of 255 EV's...and a total EV count of 510 per pokemon...so divide by 2 from 510=255....which means you could only max out 2 stats....

ok...now as for the stat vitamins...give a pokemon 10 of each for 2 stats...that will add 100 EV's to whatever stat you work on for that vitamin...so now insteadof 255 per stat it is 155...following me?

now since you would have gained 2 EV's for HP(let's just say you did) you would now have gained 2 out of 155 right?...that is basically how EV's work...

now some pokemon do give 2 EV's..and yes you would want to go for those pokemon to get your EV's trained faster...say Solrock who gives 2 Ev's for Attack....now your pokemon kills Solrock and your pokemon has Macho Brace equipped...now instead you gain 4 Attack EV's instead of 2...makes your work even faster....any questions(and I sure I lost you somewhere) please ask them...but here is some math that might confuse you more

510 - EV's a pokemon is allowed

divide by 2 for 2 diff stats

255 - per stat is allowed
---------------------------

1 EV x 2(macho brace) = 2

2 EV's gained
---------------------------

255/2 = 127.5(this is how many pokemon with 1 EV your going to have to fight if you have macho brace)
---------------------------
including Vitamins

255-100(for vitamin)=155

155/2 = 77.5(amount of pokemon you will have to fight if you used macho brace and 10 vitamins)

hope I helped...if I did'nt sorry...check my Milotic thread for my own easier understanding EV spot...I think I said it better there...

Well scarface at least you took the time to check the Help Thread and try to understand these things. EVs are not the easiest thing to get at first so don't be discouraged. I see that SM has given you some of the basics in their own words so maybe that will help some. Just one thing---EVs are not the same as EPs. What you get when you battle are Effort Points (EPs). Every 4 Effort points = 1 Effort Value (EV).
I felt that I should write up a simpler-to-understand version of this stuff and started a thread about doing it but at the time there was very little interest. Anyway, if you are still confused just aks for clarification and we;ll try to help out.

BTW SM, you efforts to be helpful to the other posters here have not gone unnoticed. Keep up the good work.

thanks for the props though...it makes me feel good

Lemme take a stab at it.

EVs are effort values that you gain from battling different types of Pokemon. Different Pokemon will give you different EV points. For a quick way to check, the Serebii's EV Guide is the best place to check what Pokemon is best to train for which stat (http://www.serebii.net/pokedex-rs/ev.shtml).

510 EPs is what each Pokemon can obtain. That is the maximum. However, 4 EPs is one point in increasing that stat. For example, I have my Blissey hold Macho Brace and fight a Marill (which gives 2 HP EPs), then I would have 4 EPs. At LV 100, my Blissey would have one more stat point than it normally have.

Vitamins are a great way to gain EVs, because all you have to do is buy them. Each vitamin gives the stat 10 EPs. So if I give my Blissey an HP Up, then it would gain 10 EPs, resulting in adding 2 HP stat points at LV 100. If I give it 10 HP Ups, then it would gain 100 EPs, resulting in adding 25 HP stat points at LV 100.

There's only 510 to go around, so you must use them accordingly. Don't give EPs to a stat that you don't need. For example, there's no point giving Gyrados Sp. Atk EVs and there's no point giving Blissey Atk EVs, since you're not going to make Gyrados do any special attacks, and you're not going to make Blissey do any physical attacks. Therefore having those would be useless.

You want to train EVs a bit slowly because of the reason stated above. Also, to add on to SM's post, it's better to just train to 252, because that would add 63 Stat Points. There's no point going to 255 because there's 3 left over and the game rounds down.

I hope you understood everything I said, but if you still don't get it, there's a site (I can't find it at the moment...) that explains IV breeding, EV training and everything.

Note: if you need a good spot to train HP, Marrils on the water route next to Fallobar is the best!

Yeah, that helped me. Thank Sephitoh.

If only I had the dedication to actually Ev train. =P

Although a period here or there would help. ;)

yeah i forgot to mention that in my post...thanks for that...yeah never do 255...unless you wanna gloat..but that is stupid

yeah EP's and EV's...I use the same thing for both..makes me less confused....but yeah 4 EP's = 1 EV = 1 Stat...basically..I think...ah well I am tired...use all 3 of our posts and you basically got the jist of it...but study of your own will help you learn better than anything...that is how I learned...hope you get the best out of EV's...I know with these guy's help...I did just fine
[EDITED]

K Thx for the help everyone, I gained a bit of knowledge and I fell better about this. I just wanted to ask this before I began training cuz I didn't wanna spend a long time training and then find out I did it wrong and I'll have to do It over again. Thx to everyone who helped me out I really appreciated it all. I will look into it more and do some expiramenting and stuff. Thank you.
