View Full Version : The most abused...

In my 4 years of playing Magic, I have never seen 2 cards be as abused as Arcbound Ravager and Skullclamp. I was looking at the regional results and almost ALL the decks had 4 of each. I think these will be banned or something soon... I really do. Is there any more like this and what do you think Magic should do about them. I know this may not be true, but I heard Magic is going to do something real soon about it.

... but it is unlikely that either of these two cards will be banned or restricted in Standard (Type 2) formats. Even at their worst, they still cycle out in a little over a year from playability.
From a competition standpoint, neither of these cards, while both very powerful, mean "I win." If you can't play around them then go ahead and use them.

skullclamp is better than ravager.... without the clamp, the ravager slows down considerably... clamp is used in almost all type 2 decks right now, and I think it needs to be restricted..... ravager on the other hand, dies without skullclamp.

ravager can pull a turn THREE win. Thats unhealthy in a format where most other decks take longer. Defending against ravager is just as pointless because it just throw's its strength onto a different attacker.
Ravager might be able to stay but clamp has to go.

I doubt any actions will be taken about the 2 cards in standard, but they very well could be axed in other formats. I would rather go against any tinker deck than one of the 37 billion Ravager-Clamp-Affinity decks that have been made in the last week.
I've seen more Ravagers this week than I care to even stomach... makes me want to take some time off to see if the fad calms down...
It really makes me cringe at the thought of T2 when onslaught block rotates out...

just watch they'll put the cursed totem in fifth dawn.
they will never ban or restrict a card for type II...
tons of cards have gone through this fad of being put in every deck...
there was cursed scroll, rishaden port, zuran's orb, thran foundry, tsabo's web etc...

Yes, they will. If anything is powerful enough to dominate the metagame completely, they will ban the enablers or engine. They've done it in block, and IIRC they did it back in TSE-SLD TII.

Masques:
Liin-Sivi
Rishadan Port
Urza's:
Gaea's Cradle
Memory Jar
Serra's Sanctum
Time Spiral
Tolarian Academy
Voltaic Key
Windfall
Rath:
Banned Cards
Cursed Scroll
And IIRC, in TSE-SLD TII, they banned Memory Jar, Necropotence and Academy.

They banned Mind over Matter also.
I thought that Wake and Mongrel were overused in the older Type 2. It was not uncommon to see 3 out of the top 8 decks be Wake. There have been many other cards that have been abused.

I agree that ravager affinity is everywhere and quite overplayed but...
Wasnt' B/W control a little overplayed and the same with standard Broodstar affinity?
Type 2 is based on the popular cards so your going to see decks over and over again in this format.

I think these cards can be abused but think about it and compare to wake of destruction. It should definitely be banned but it's not even restricted.

Don't necro threads (that have been dead for about 3 years especially). (Basically don't post if they're this old.)

Pretty much it's banned in every format (including Mirrodin block) except Vintage.
Other than that, it used to be banned in Standards during Mirrodin rotation.

Do NOT revive 3-year-old topics.
