Yami Marik's facial distortions

I never quite understood this; what was up with Yami Marik's face? What did those odd distortions represent?

Edit: Yeah I think it is because Malik is trying to escape while Yami Malik is controlling his body. Though I was confused why did 4Kids dubbed such things as punching, and the atlatean knights stabbing the infinite attack snake while they wouldn't dubbed this. Don't get me wrong I hate the dubbing, but sometimes they illogically dub stuff while leaving something outlandishly strange. When I first saw Malik having those facial distortions I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me, but it turns out that these distortions were on purpose.

Marik is trying to retake control over Dark Marik. During Kaiba Vs. Isis, Dark Marik sealed away in his mined (the hourglass thing) and the facial distortions stopped.
