Yeah, you need dig to open the Regi caves. Other than that, no use for it.

in fallarbor town theres a fossil maniacs house, the little kid in the house gives you dig. Then you can open the regi tombs or dp whatever you wanted to do with it. Or the house might be the route just left of fallarbor but itll be around there, and a sign at the front of the house says fossil maniacs house. also if this helps you remember, even though this is as clear as i can explain it and you probably already get the picture, in the back of the house the dude has a huge dunnel dug.
