In the Lv.50 BT, I scored a MASSIVE 21 wins.

In the Lv.100 BT, I outdid myself with a spectacular 21 wins. After a while, I decided to go back (when I had more than 3 Pokemon to use in it) and got... 21 wins. Everytime I go in, I come out with 21 wins.

I swear, my cartridge is cursed.

I've never made a serious Lv 100 team (yet) but have won Gold 3 times at Lv 50 BT.

1 - I made a team that was basically a copy of poster Houndoom Revenge's great BT team and won my first gold shield with them.

2 - All water team "Water Warriors" got 125 straight.

3 - Team "Tank Force" got 105 and was undefeated (I started a new challenge with a different team).

For anyone who wants details, look at the end of post 7 (battle tower strategies) on the Help Thread.

Got Gold?

All you needed in crystal was a team of Lugia, Mewtwo, and Ho-oh.
As for RS BT:

The first group is impossible to lose. Same with groups two, three, and four. Beating 35 isn't that hard.

Then, something will happen. The computer will get smart, and you'll need to battle a team that is DESIGNED to counter your team.
You'll start facing exploders who by pure chance always get the critical hit. OHKO moves will hit 75% of the time. The presence of a bright powder will cause your attacks to miss 80% ofthe time. You will abandon all moves but aerial ace and faint attack.

You'll raise dozen of pokemon. Each trainer group means finding three Uber-powerful pokemon. Your sweeper's attacks will hardly make a dent. Your tanks will die in one hit. You will be destroyed, time and time again.
Just when you think you have won, you have six DTs on Ludicolo, and three pokemon to their one...and they will bring out Walrein and sheer cold and fissure your entire team.

You will spend hours, days working hard at trying to beat the system. And you will spend weeks, months agonizing over your defeat. It is a truely humbling expirience. You will be discouraged, think yourself useless.

You will see obscure movesets; Metagross tanks and Registeel sweepers. It is the most educational part of pokemon. You will see the the words "Wiped out" over and over and over.

I'd write more, but I'm running out of minutes.
So, that about sums up the RS BT. (Based on my expirience.) Now go have some fun losing.

Many of those things have happened to me...facing teams of OHKOers, Teams of Exploders, etc., Anyone who has over 100 wins and says it is easy certainly has a different opinion than me.

I'll never forget my first Gold Challenge; with Registeel, Slaking, and Latios. The team was basically identical to one that Houndoom's Revenge used to win Gold with. I got up to like 84 wins I think and made a mistake (I was using Slaking+choice band and didn't realize he would struggle after losing his HyperBeam PP. So the counter got reset and I started over at trainer 1. This time I got to 94 I think and then lost to an exploding Registeel or something. So i had to start over at trainer 1 again. The third time I got to 87 I think and lost to a metagross--I don't really rememebr. So once again I had to start over with the first trainer. The fourth time I actually won and made it to 105 wins and got the Gold.

Got Persistence?

I was so freaked out by this time that I didn't go back to the BT for a week or more. Poster DarkLogos and I decided to write up something that would be helpful and put it on the Help Thread. Sorry for rambling, I haven't had my coffee yet.

Anyway, it takes not only great pokemon, you have to know how to use them and you have to know all of the other pokemon and how best to faint them. That's why I did the weakness/resistance 'chart' for dual-types. Last, you'll need good luck and patience to get to 100 or more.

Michuru81
02-01-2004, 02:29 PM
For a long while, all my attempts at conquering the Battle Tower were squashed at 21 wins. In both rooms, in multiple attempts, I had only 21 wins. I could not seem to get past 21.

Yesterday, I declared that I would rise above 21. At the 22nd battle, things were looking grim. Finally, the Kingdra that would not die dropped to my Cacturne... my only remaining Pokémon. I knew this was over and then- Rhydon! Rhydon appeared in a glorious flash of light! The curse was broken! I had made it past the 22nd battle!

...I was crushed in the 33rd round. ...to my little brother. I am ashamed. It was a great tragedy, falling before that Sceptile.

Anything that embarassing happened to anyone else, or have you all kept face?

True... I guess one could be considered a true master of the game if their team can battle and defeated randomized, powerful teams.

I also spend a lot of time trying to raise my final team, so I don't put a lot of thought into the Battle Tower.

Venusaur1
02-01-2004, 02:32 PM
are you talking about the battle tower if so how did u battle your brother

Linzoy
02-01-2004, 02:37 PM
The battle tower is hard, but that's the reward. The thing is, the teams aren't random. They're made specifically to destroy your pokemon. I have two dragon types so I keep seeing a lot of ice beamers, especially starmie, golduck, and milotic. And for some reason I keep running into ludicolos.

Betelgeux
02-01-2004, 02:38 PM
Ah, I didn't know that... in that case, you could be considered especially skillful to have cleared that.

Venusaur1

Linzoy
02-01-2004, 02:56 PM
I owe any skill I might have to this forum, I probably wouldn't have decided to try the battle tower at all if I didn't read the help thread. I thought the strengh of any particular pokemon was random or something, I didn't know about evs.

When you exchange records with people, if they've been to Battle Tower, the team they used is there. I'd met up with two of my friends there already... but my 14 year old brother stomped me flat.

Venusaur1
02-01-2004, 03:11 PM
did it have hisname or just his pokemon

Michuru81
02-01-2004, 03:27 PM
Both.

The give away for me was that, my brother doesn't put his name in all uppercase. So after being bombarded with "COOL TRAINER NICK" or "CAMPER DUSTIN" seeing "POKE MANIAC Zanza" is something that made me go, "Oh, poopie..."

I was going through with my Swampert, Pelipper, and Cacturne. It came down to Cacturne vs. Sceptile and Dragon Claw won out. :(

Venusaur1
02-01-2004, 03:33 PM

Linzoy
02-01-2004, 04:15 PM
all your skills came from evs?

Ev training is very helpful. I always had a feeling there was some way you could influence your pokemon's stats besides giving it vitamins, but I wasn't sure how. I noticed that I got higher stats when my pokemon grew a level if I battled more pokemon. Now that I know how it works I actually have some control over what pokemon will have a better speical attack or something than another of the same speicies.

Which pokémon did you use?

Me? I have:

Salemance@focus band/choice band/shell bell
aerial ace
dragon claw
earthquake
brick break

Before I got this I used a sharpedo. Sharpedo's got great offense, but almost no defense, so it doesn't work. Choice band doesn't help weaker moves like aerial ace very much, and his other 3 attacks can be avoided by too many pokemon, so I just use focus band now. I don't like shell bell. I don't think I've ever seen dragon claw used on any salemance except mine, but I need it for dragons or anything with a high defense.

Latios@soul dew
calm mind
recover
psychic
thunderbolt/dragon claw

I've been seeing a lot of water types so I have thunderbolt currently.

registeel@leftovers
metal claw
curse
amnesia
rest

I like this team. The offensive moves are super effective against every type except ground, psychic, and flying. I need some rotation though, I'm training a metang and I'm trying to decide on another special attacker.

i've been pretty successly on L50 with this team, alternating starters and movesets among the 3 but like starting out with salamence to use intimidate and switching to regice to handle special attackers or ice beamers

salamence w/ brightpowder (saved me many a time)
brick break
earthquake
fly/aerial ace
fire blast/flamethrower (i like fire blast because of the higher % of causing a burn)

latias w/ lum berry
surf
psychic
ice beam
thunder/thunderbolt
also used recover / charm / calm mind

regice w/ leftovers
rest
toxic
ice beam
amnesia/thunderbolt

i havent as much luck at L100 (those 1-hit KO guys are a real pain), but i've been mixing up different combinations, using primarily lthe following

latios w/ soul dew
psychic
ice beam
calm mind
earthquake

heracross w/ shell bell
bulkup
megahorn
brick break
earthquake

registeel w/ leftovers
rest
toxic
curse
metal claw

anyone tried using any of the 'sturdy' pokemon to combat the 1-hit KOs ? whats a good moveset for skarmory ?

earlier someone asked about crystal at L10, use aerodacytl & lapras both with dragon rage, and for the 3rd pokemon use steelix or snorlax to handle jolteon (either earthquake him or selfdestruct)

some other good pokemon for the other levels are umbreon (BPass double team), snorlax (curselax), kangaskhan (attract/substitute/body slam), mirror-coating suicune, and ho-oh (recover, earthquake, fireblast, thunderbolt) is a beast

My Water team was... (this was when I was a serious sharker)

Kingdra@Lum Berry
Rain Dance
Surf
Ice Beam
Toxic
~Timid
252-SpAtk, 252-Spd, 4-HP

Gyarados@Chesto Berry
Dragon Dance
Earthquake
Aerial Ace (I was too lazy to get HP Flying)
Rest
~Adamant
252-Atk, 252-Spd, 4-SpDef

[Rain Dish]Ludicolo@Leftovers
Toxic
Leech Seed
Ice Beam
Giga Drain
~Bold
252-HP, 252-Def, 4-SpDef

I sharked all 3 to have max IVs... It was my best team, but I got it through cheating, so I didn't really accomplish anything...

I'm currently at 126 straight wins, and counting (I hope that doesn't jinx me!)

My Team:

Metagross@ShellBell
Earthquake
Shadow Ball
Toxic
Meteor Mash

Milotic@Leftovers
Surf
Ice Beam
Toxic
Recover

Latios@Soul Dew
Dragon Claw
Psychic
Thunderbolt
Recover
(Thinking about dropping something for Calm Mind, but can't decide on what; these are all very useful attacks!)

I actually started with Swampert instead of Milotic, but switched at about 70 wins. The extra speed and Recover is very nice, the weakness to L where Swampert wasn't affected isn't.

Swampert@Lefties
Earthquake
Ice Beam
Surf

What ?!?!? What's wrong with everyone ? I'm sort of inexperienced, but I've
gotten 187 wins, and that's at LV.100 ! My team is:

Metagross@Scope Lens(Maybe switch with Shell Bell next time)
<Adamant>
Meteor Mash
EQ
Shadow Ball
Light Screen(Any other ideas are welcome)

Salamence@Shell Bell(I don't know what else)
<Adamant>
Fly(Exploders/Slaking)
EQ
Brick Break
Dragon Claw(Dragon Dance when I re-raise him for decent IVs)

RegiTANK@Leftovers
<Timid>(It's IVs ruled...)
Amnesia
Curse
Rest
Metal Claw

I lost to a Walrein. Meta's HP was low and it was knocked out by Surf, Salamence took a Blizzard for an OHKO, and Registeel was hit with Sheer Cold on the first try.Too bad, I think it would've knocked it out with the Metal Claw I had commanded, even without Curse, as it's HP was next to nothing after a Meteor Mash and Brick Break.Maybe I'll use Walrein next. :p
