When Mai and Rex played the Seal of Oricalcohs, Joeys Duel disk wasn't on, so how would the Seal know to trap him in?

its just a screw up in the show. Maybe the seal just responds to who activates it and who they challenge to a duel.

Because according to the anime, the Orichalcos is a living entity in and of itself. Therefore, it can "think", per se.

Does anyone have a proxy of the card I could borrow?
A Chinese friend of mine fears it. He watches the show - it apparently helps him build character, and he learns how to be a man... conquered his fears etc.
Meh...

i've never heard that the orichalcos could think for itself. Then that means it's even more dangerous than i thought...cool.

You have a friend that watches YGO to be a man? O.o
Check my anime proxy thread for two good proxies of the Seal. The second one(labeled "NEW") is better.

Yeah, it seemed pretty dumb that the Seal was able to be played even though an official duel hadn't started. Heck, it must be horrible that Joey was flat out saying he didn't want to duel Mai, he was just standing there, and he gets trapped in the Seal without even agreeing to a duel.

when the orichalcos soldiers were roamiong the streets they could activate the seal on any passersby and steal thier souls so mabye the seal dosen't need a duel to take your soul but a duel is the only way to defend yourself. Like when people stopped resisting the seal they were automatically sealed, when Joey collapsed out of tiredness fighting Mai and when the pharoah started to surrender to Dartz. That would make more sense because the seal wouldn't be very dangerous if peope had to agree before it was used :D
A: Hi do you want to play a card game where I can steal your soul
B: No i don't
A: NOOOOO my plans for world domination have been thwarted once again....
Plus this is a show where 10,000 year old madmen, 5,000 year old pharoahs, soul stealing and magic playing cards are normal so the idea that the seal dosen't play fair would be the least of your problems.

How do you think Dartz did it before paper had been invented, let alone Duel Disks?

If you watch very closely before Dartz became possessed by the orichalcos, he wore a pendant with the seal of orichalcos on it. No did he just make the seal himself and shaped it to the picture on the pendant. Another thing during his duel the seal never is on his forehead why? Is it because of his pendant?

So you want to put the fear of the Orichalcos into your friend, apparently causing his psyche to crumble and making him have a nervous breakdown?
What kind of sick, twisted ******* are you?

To how they dueled before paper: How did they duel in Egypt? A: Stone tablets.
One thing I don't understand is how Raphael lost his soul. How can the Seal take a soul that is starting a fight without defeating the person first?

It shows the seal going into his eye, which is why one of his eyes is green. The seal appears on people's foreheads because they're posessed by it at the time. I would assume that because Dartz is permanantly possessed by the Seal at all times, it is in his eye.

Since Darts was the first to be "infected" by the stone(I think he was the first), it bonded with him, thus giving him some control of it.
......Or maybe, the seal never left him, because even though he fought it off: (1) he still lost their duel and the leviathan wanted to make sure he kept his part of the deal, or (2) he still held anger in his heart(my guess is he never truly believed Darts).
The latter seemed most likely at the end, plus Darts messing with his head, bringing out the hidden anger within.
