What does mystery event do?

In Ru/Sa, it allows the game to link up with the E-Reader. I'm not sure what it does in Emerald, though.

What does mystery event do?

r/s - lets you use e - reader cards.
fr/lg - nintendo event. e - reader cards are no longer supported.
e - nintendo event. e - reader cards are no longer supported.
