What i need to know is if volt takle is physical or special attack.
Im having a little trouble identifying some moves in pokemon games, things that looks like special attacks are considered physical and attacks that looks like physical are special in some cases.

It's Physical. I know cause my Togetic used it with Metrenome in Sapphire.

It's Physical.

No, actually Volt Tackle is Special.

Electric, Fire, Water, Dragon, Ice, Grass, Psychic, and Dark are special.

Poison, Normal, Fighting, Ghost, Rock, Ground, Flying, Bug and Steel are Physical.

If I left anything out, please contribute. I think I got all of them

Are you sure? Sometimes, with things like ThunderPunch, things like Rough Skin take effect.

Yes I'm sure. Rough skin works on all moves.

No it doesn't!! Use Mega Drain on a Sharpedo. Then use Volt Tackle. come back then.

flying is also a physical type attack.

its a special based attack but rough skin affects it because volt tackle comes in contact wit sharpedo...just cuz it touches the opponent doesnt mean its a physical attack

its called a "contact" move there is a difference between that and a physical move, think of soundproof, it only stops moves that make sound, it doesnt matter if its special or physical

There are two ways of categorizing moves.
Special/physical
Ranged/melee(aka "contact")

Thunderbolt is Special and ranged.
Thunderpunch is special and melee.
Rockslide is Physical and ranged.
Karate chop is physical and melee.

See?

There is still "Bug" type attacks...and they're physical...
And "Physic" type attacks...which are...(obviously) speical...

(So, in conclusion, Volt Tackle is a special attack...but has contact with the opponent Pokemon...?)

Volt Tackle is a special and Melee attack. Melee attacks are ones that require the combatant to touch it's opponent.

yea uatl you are right... its like thunder punch or dragon claw; special attacks that can be affected by rough skin, poison point, effect spore, etc.

and clown master: adding Flying and Bug to the physical list.

It's a physicial attack so is slash and dive.

dive is a water type attack, therefore its special.
