I know that there's probably a thread about this already, but I've been inspired by the "Hardest Book" Thread.

So, What is everybody's favorite book?

I have several myself, for casual reading, I like Shock Wave by Clive Cussler, and for academic reading, I am reeeeeaaaaalllllyyyy enjoying The Prophet Armed by Isaac Deutscher.

One of these:

Earthsea (all 5, plus Tales), by Ursula LeGuin
Catch-22, by Joseph Heller
Jurassic Park, by Michael Criton
and Harry Potter, of course.

not sure if I spelt "Criton" right... 4 hours of staring at logic gate diagrams makes you forget the simple things, like remembering to lock your door when you go out (or even to close it)...

I really liked The Count of Monte Cristo by Dumas. My current favorite is most of the Star Wars: New Jedi Order series.

My top ten:

1 – The Lord of the Rings
2 – The Prince
3 – America: The Book
4 – The Fountainhead
5 – Shogun
6 – The Silmarillion
7 – The Hobbit
8 – Catcher in the Rye
9 – The Picture of Dorian Gray
10 – Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy

I'm counting the LotR trilogy as one book, as that's how it was originally intended to be.

And yeah, it's a pretty eclectic assortment. Obviously I like Tolkien, but Machiavelli makes for a good read too, as does Jon Stewart (of course). Rand has some interesting thoughts. Clavelle's Shogun was very good but very long, and I don't remember much from it anymore; I should reread it... Then there's more Tolkien, followed by Salinger (that's the only book on the list I read for school). Wilde is nice; I love a good British writer. His...erm...flamboyance is pretty evident though. And Douglas Adams is just fun.

I might just have to say The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series. They're funny, a good enough plot, and are easy to read. I can wiz through them a book a day. I just finished the first one for the second time (started this morning). The end of "Mostly Harmless" just painted this great, ironic picture that was both funny and sad. I still need to read The Salmon of Doubt and Long Dark Tea-Time of the Soul, though I'm fairly sure neither of them have much to do with the actual series. Why do I feel dumb typing that last sentence?

I actually dislike Tolkein books. The only one that really sucked me in was The Hobbit. There was something... off... about Lord of the Rings. I can't quite place my finger on it, but something makes the books very tedious and boring for me. Wasn't a huge fan of the movies, either. I find that really weird, because that sort of thing is usually right up my alley.

I also like the Ender series by Orson Scott Card. I haven't gotten around to reading the Ender's Shadow books yet, unfortunately. Right now my dad has me semi-addicted to John Grisham, so I'm trying to get through some of his books. I just got through with The King of Torts and am getting started on The Last Juror. Runaway Jury's gonna be the next one I read, or heck, maybe I'll read them simaltaneously if I'm in the mood to keep track of more than one plot at once.

...Yeah, I like to read. Makes me feel like I'm actually doing something educational, rather than blowing off schoolwork.

i liked the Dark Tower series by Stephen King. it is a really fast moving series and good character development. it is also really long. other books that i like are the Ender/Bean series by O. S. Card. I prefered the books about Bean more than Ender. there's also Animal Farm, but i forget the author. and i liked the Harry Potter series along with Angels and Demons by Dan Brown.

Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials-Books I,II, and III. The Golden Compass is the first book, the Subtle Knife is the second book, and the Amber Spyglass is the third book. The Amber Spyglass is BY FAR my favorite of the 3. Such a sad ending... next time I visit a bookstore I'll have to remember to buy those 3 books, and if not all three then at least the Amber Spyglass. The Golden Compass is the best random book I've ever decided to check-out at the library.

Alot of great stuff that I forgot has been mentioned: The Giver is an amazing book, Harry Potter's are always good for a quick read. Also, I forgot one of my personal fave's, All Quiet on the Western Front. It's just a wonderful book that's full of both emotion and historical significance.

Angels and Demons by Dan Brown: I found it to be a better book than the Da Vinci Code. Not to mention that I love anything Illuminati.
His Dark Materials trilogy by Phillip Pullman: The Northern Lights is my favourite of the trilogy, followed so very closely by The Amber Spyglass.
The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams: Incredibly funny, incredibly crazy, incredibly well written and incredibly English. What more can you ask for?
The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien: Very detailed and has a very deep meaning. A good, but challenging, read.
The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown: While the so-called "facts" are a load of old phooey (Angels and Demons isn't much different in that regard), it's a highly entertaining read that's easy to pick up and read. It manages to draw the reader in. Read it in a day and a half.

I can't quite place my finger on it, but something makes the books very tedious and boring for me. Wasn't a huge fan of the movies, either. I find that really weird, because that sort of thing is usually right up my alley.

I'm the exact same way, except that the Hobbit didn't really draw me in all thatm uch. Although, it's the only book by Tolkien I could actually finish (though I was in 4th grade at the time). Typically the whole Medieval, swords and sorcery type of stuff draws me in and I love it, but...Tolkien's writing style is just so hard to wade through, in my opinion. It's not BAD writing, it's just...not overly good. Basically, Lord of the Rings is over-hyped to the point where it's just boring, to me. I don't really understand why the books and movies are so popular and acclaimed.

I haven't really done a whole lot of reading since around the time I was in Junior High (eesh, like 7 or 8 years ago), but I do very ocassionally pick up a book. At the moment, my two favorites are:

To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
The Oath by Frank E. Peretti

Lemme see...

Good Omens by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman has to be my number one favourite book.

I prefer to go by authors, though...Robert Heinlen, Neil Gaiman, Terry Pratchett, J.R.R Tolkien, C.S Lewis, Piers Anthony... Douglas Adams...

Reading the Art of War, currently. Fascinating stuff. Not really a fan of Stephen King's 'horror' novels. The Green Mile, and The Shawshank Redemption were really good, though.

...I also liked Angels and Demons much more than The Da Vinci Code. Dan Brown is a 'hit and miss' author for me.

Hitchhiker's Guide is a staple for any nerd. When I can go around calling people 'froods' or saying '42' and someone gets it... Hurray!

I am a literati. Fear my book reading skills. Fo' shizzle.

I can't really pick a favorite book. I really like slaughterhouse five, I read it recently. One of the greatest books ever. It's a mostly true story about WW2. The fictional parts are where he gets abducted by aliens, and travels through time, and stuff. He also changed the names of the characters, but it's mostly true. I generally like science fiction, but I read books from every genre. I'm re-reading the entire animorphs series now, I love that series. I'm also reading a book called the five people you meet in heaven, I didn't think it was intresting but my dad told me to read it, and it turned out to be a really good book. My all time favorite book is The Catcher in the Rye buy J.D. Salinger. I found it truely fascinating. Then the Giver was good. I love the Harry Potter series. Groosom Grange is good (its where JK Rolwings kinda took the idea for harry potter from though i like harry potter so much more). The Theif Lord and Inkheart by Cornelia Funke were extremely good. I liked the Lord of the Rings Series. The Hobbit was one of my favorites. Dandeline Wine by Ray Bradbury was great. I kinda feel that that touched me in some way, as did The Giver and The Catcher in the Rye. If i think of anymore ill edit this post. Eh...I left out House of the Scorpion and the Sea of Trolls bye Nancy Grace. House of the scorpion really touched me. I reccomend that and the catcher in the rye to any teenager.
