I think it's so awesome that a gadget deck won...

Well, it's actually extremely well built to maintain a full field control. IMO though its weakness would be destroying the monsters that it has in its hand and field ASAP. Look at it, it runs 12 monsters but the gadgets just get themselves, that makes the deck mostly spell and traps meaning that if you get past the monsters at the very beginning you'll be able to maintain control since the deck will have trouble getting them again.

Can someone explain how the first place deck works?

Well, it's actually extremely well built to maintain a full field control. IMO though its weakness would be destroying the monsters that it has in its hand and field ASAP. Look at it, it runs 12 monsters but the gadgets just get themselves, that makes the deck mostly spell and traps meaning that if you get past the monsters at the very beginning you'll be able to maintain control since the deck will have trouble getting them again.
But it's obviously not that easy to get past the monsters at the start, even Chaos cannot take it down. If you look at the trap lineup, this guy maxes out on moster removal - 3 sakaretsu, 2 bth, 3 solemn judgment, 1 ring of d, 1 mirror force, 1 torrential. If you can get past all that then no problem, but more likely than not, you'll be ramming your monsters into trap after trap.
Once you draw a gadget, superior hand control and deck thinning just pushes the game so much into your favour. You gain easy field control with the gadgets and your traps. 3 solemn judgments can negate anything your opponent throws at you, and you would win within 3 turns if your opponent cannot counter.
Overall, an ingenious deck that capitalises on beating the meta through hand advantage, deck thinning and searching, field control though psychological use of quickplays and traps, monster removal whether f/d, f/u, f/u def or specially summoned, negation of the opponent's moves and does justice finally to traps and weeny monsters.

In realize how it won, and I'm not critizing it because it obviously worked, I was just looking at areas to take advantage of. Chaos decks would have to play a more defensive start but they should be able to keep up. Also now the surprise factor of that won't assist it in future matches as people all over will have seen it and would have had the chance to analyse the weaknesses to prepare incase they see it. As long as they don't lose focus of their deck so as to make it weak against other archetypes and you'll be seeing some balanced matches in the future.

Not to mention, I'm sure both players did MAJOR siding.

I agree, look at the side board for the second place deck, they probably shifted in more traps for protection against the rush and to force the play of God's Decision to allow them to then bust out Imperial Command. Also Deck Devastation Virus would have been extremely powerful against the gadget deck.

actually i does. the main strategy is the Gadget, he used the Gadget's search ability to think his deck and have monster in his hand all the time. but the main problem is Gadget's attack power is too low, to recover this, he use 2 strink and all those 1 for 1 trade trap card- bottomless trap hole, su..... armor etc... he also use 2 nobleman and 1 mytic to get rid of his opponent's defence, and sasuki ninja can get rid of those reaper for him as well. cliff's purpose is for japanese people would like to bluff; say after he used those trap to get rid of his opponent's monster, his assumed his opponent would at least set something, so if his opponent is bluffing, after cliff deals damage, that card will be destroyed, if his opponent is not, he then must to activate it cos it will get destoryed anyway. so either way, it would at least be a 1 for 1 trade.

i have a feeling that this isnt his main deck, he ran three decree and a jinzo because he knew his opponent was running 13 traps. this is just my guess.

So a deck running no chaos beats all of the chaos decks in a major tournament. *ponders this for a moment and buys firecrackers for big celebration*. And it runs Gadgets, of all things. :)
Now I can't wait for gadgets to appear in the TCG.
However, I was confused that I didn't see a Moble Fortress Stronghold, but who cares... he won!

The stronghold was sidedecked i believe. He didnt focus on it as he did the hand advantage aspect of the gadgets.
Damn, why dont we get igzarion? He looks cool!! lol
I need some help with my chaos deck. Its good, but its getting stomped over by the new zombie chaos and warrior chaos (command knights and magepower/united). Pm me! thx.

Maybe you know the deck which was posted some weeks ago. It's was a heavy control deck and everybody said 1st: How can this deck win??? But then I built the deck and realized that it is very strong and kills meta decks easy.
