I find all these new Horrors terrible (in comparison to old ones and other genres of movies being better), and so do most people.
A list of New movies with holes:
The Forgotten
White Noise
Cursed
The Ring 2
Boogeyman
Sequels/Prequels have it even worse... why can't a Director make a good Sequel (Aside from Jaws, maybe Poltergeist and maybe the 2nd. Exorcist.

I would say it's because they are rushed, but Saw was great.
I honestly don't know, but it's all true.
I thought The Grudge was bad too....
I think it may be because they are so many cliches now, it just seems to get old, and plots seem to get repetitive seem to get repetitive.

I second that, Greg.
I'm going to see The Ring 2 tonight because there's nothing else, but from what I've heard it was bad.
Anyways, I've been thinking about this and I figure it is most likely because most of these movies seem to be the same thing. A supernatural force or being, or something that defies common laws, comes about to terrorize a group of people or a city. These people then rebel, figure it out, and save the day.
Although we may not realize it, we are seeing the same thing over and over again, and that isn't appealing, so we dub the movie bad, which is probably is :p

Directors arn't the only at fault, usally the story line isn't that great in the first place, meaning the scriptwriter. But, yes, in scary movies the director is usally at fault.
I didn't think the Ring 2 would be that good anyway, and after watching it I was right.

I don't get it??? Why see it, if you know it's bad?
Do you want to see what's bad for yourself?? ...Is going to see a bad movie all the rage? :p
Lousy scriptwriters... YOU KNOW WHO I AM TALKING ABOUT!!!
I can't wait to see how they ruin The House of Wax, which is coming out soon.
I hope they make a Rosemary's Baby copy... I want to see how it does... yah know, they would probably make one of the scariest movies of all time ( on the top 10 list of scariest movies) a lousy one ^_^
too many asian remakes, not enough originality, there hasnt been a good one (except saw) since the 6th sense

I thought the Ring was decent... + Signs was a good movie. Gothika was also a decent movie. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake was decent as well (Of course, it can't match the remake) - we will have to see how the Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 does... which comes out in 2006/2007

The thing i believe is that they should just bring over the asian films over and put them in theaters-sub titled, not voice overs. Like The Ring....it is so much scarier in the Japanese version...*im the person who gets scared easily and i got scared of Ringu so easily but when i saw the Ring it wasnt so bad* The Ring only has The Ring 2 because the manga Birthday and Spiral came out. it has like all the extra stuff and actually goes back to the past to find out what happens and well all i can say is that American movies stink nowadays!* Signs in my opinion was a horrible movie where i fell asleep watching it. The American writers/directors should just get japanese writers/directors for horror/suspense/action films. romance should be somewhere in Europe or China or Korea. you know stuff like that....then all our movies will be so much better. Americans follow the same format, it was interesting when we were young but now it's just plain boring! you can predict the entire movie after watching 5 minutes of it.

I think the reason is because they don't have a set killer. It's not like Friday the 13th or Nightmare on Elm Street or anything else with anyother slashers in it. Now it's all about monsters hiding in the dark (in fact, you don't even get a chance to see the the killer/monster because they're too busy hiding them in the shadows and stuff). No more monsters or anything. They're all trying to be the same.

maybe there not so bad maybe it's just all the teens thinking there movie critics no offence anyone but we ain't got no place to say what was terrible or not just whats IMHO.But for the most part I agree with jokers apprentice on why they don't seem as good to me
none of these films compare to alien

Yes, the alien sequels (or at least 'Aliens') are some movies you left off the good horror sequles list.

The Amityville Horror will be pretty cool.
I doubt it...the scriptwriter/director/etc. will find someway to ruin it. :(

Because there big Budget Directors unlike the old-timers with Talent and not cash:
Dawn of the Dead(1979)VsDawn of the Dead(2004.)
Dawn of the Dead 1979 is obviously superior.George A Romero captured the Zombie Genre perfectly and displayed it with great detail for a EXTREMLY low Budget movie.
Wheras the Newer Dawn of the Dead, though technically superior is Cr@p.Yes it's a load oh nuts. The Plot is weird(er) and the acting is.......Nasty.
John Carpenter,he was a great Movie director.I loved the Fog.
The Alien Director was true greatness, though the sequals and AVP sucked.
So all in all.The Newer Directors are just Kids with Big Idea's but cant back 'em up.

Uhh, these are the two "newer" movies I seen.
The Grudge - I almost fell asleep. Terrible movie, nothing scary or nothing about it that makes it slightly worth watching, AT ALL.
SAW - This was a bit better. The killer was a sick, sick man, which is good. I guess my only complaint is that there was too much unanswered questions. Oh yeah, there was one more thing I didn't like - The ending. That dead guy got up, said "The key is in the bath-tub". And then he closed the lights and shut the door. What the HELL was the point of that?
I think the story of the newer movies is old, we've all seen in. And, the endings usually suck aswell. And, the acting is terrible in most cases.

The only Series of movies that defies those type of lousy Horror/suspense is The Nightmare on Elm Street... even though only the first 2 were decent... they had different methods of death in each one... some were really cool, like when one of the guys was taken into a video game... another was turned into a comic.

I liked Saw, even though it was really rushed. Well, you might not have liked that ending but it made me go WTF. You could have predicted that ending somewhat, but not the way that they portrayed it.

There is one simple reason. The directors, actors etc. are care more about getting heaps of money than anything else. Infact, most of the recent high earning movies have gotten negative reviews, both by critics and average Joes.
