This was inspired by the other book thread in here. out of curiosity how many people have read any of enders game series or enders shadow. If you have then you would agree that this is one of the greatest books ever! after I'm done reading one book I want to take over the world. It's like the book inspires a whole new way of thinking and allows you to figure out strategy.
When I play yugioh all I want to do is completly beat my opponets. Not just now but in every game to come. Ender is the only person(fictional or not) that seems fit to even comand an army. Please tell me what you think.

You have some competition there. :p
I love this book. The descriptions of the battle room are amazing.
Ender's Shadow wasn't bad ... it made stuff a lot clearer that you might not pick up in EG, but EG is still a much more beautifully written story.
Haven't read it in a while though.

I read Ender's game when I was 13 I think. It was awesome. I loved the plot and the fantastical sci-fi elements in it. I want to read the others.

lazy, well here it is in a nut shell. The world is having a war with an alien race nicknamed the bugger. Ender is a small boy that is chosen to be part of a goverment program that takes place in space to train children to be officers and commanders. they have mock battles in 0g and study tactics and other stuff. Ender is the best of the best, when he does anything he dosen't want to win, he wants to uterly beat them sorta like knowing that the outcome of something depends on a war and everying else falls in place. He ends up graduating...
AND EVERYONE DIES!!!!!
well, if you want to know what happens read the book.
You have some competition there
bring it on.

Psh... Every single member of the United Nations is nothing but a sophisticated puppet controlled by no one other than myself.
I've read the entire Ender half of the series, but haven't gotten the chance to read the Ender's Shadow series (it's about Bean, isn't it?). These books are actually really popular at my school; almost everyone has read them.

I think that enders game has this one purfect
"....as far as your consirned dink is god."
"then what does that make you"
"the person that hired god"
now there is only one person that is higher in authority then me(look at my sig). And I'm not at liberty to say who, but mushroom pie I DEFINATLY out class you.
and supringly enders game was right again. The book will be passed around until it will be suprising to find someone who hasn't read the book.
Oh, and try to read ES. Its one dousy of a trip.

All of them are great books. For anyone who has read all eight, I have some semi-discussion questions about the ends of Shadow of the Giant (SotG) and Children of the Mind (CotM). I had them on the other Ender's series post, but since more people have posted here, I'll ask again.
**Spoilers**
1)Since it's implied at the end of SotG that Achilles II has Anton's Key, and that he goes into space, could either he or Bean be responsible for anything that happens in the Ender's Game sequels, including the Descolada creators' race? If somehow they were able to establish a colony of only superintelligent people, then maybe they could have developed that language of cells in CotM.
2)I don't know how well relativity works, but if Bean or his children are still alive 3000 years later for the Ender's Game sequels, couldn't the Descolada be the cure for Anton's Key? It helped the people on Path by rearranging their DNA, so it might work for them. If this is the case, there could be a sequel where Bean or Achilles II meets Miro, Grego, etc.

I have read Ender's Game, Speaker for the Dead, Ender's Shadow and Shadow of the Hegemon. I have also read Enchanted which is an unrelated book by Orson Scott Card but still very good.
From what I have read (2 books in each series) I prefer the Ender's Chronicles to the Shadow series but both series were very enjoyable. I can just see why Ender's Game and Speaker for the Dead won the Hugo and Nebula. They are two of the best books I ever read. I even got a good friend who swore she did not like Science fiction to read Ender's Game and she loved it too.
Btw I heard a movie is in the works for Ender's Game.

I heard the rumor about the movie too. If they come out with video games at the same time (hopefully earlier), they could be awesome. They could make one where you start out as a launchy and have to work your way up to a commander, and then a member of Ender's Jeesh, or they could just make you Ender himself. Either way, a game based on the Ender's series has the potential to be incredible.

Ender's Game is a powerful story. The rest of the Ender series are not quite in the same tone, but good in their own way.
The Shadow series is awesome, but there's a lot more military science in it and not quite as much emotional appeal, IMO. It's more... solid, material, or something.
The existence of a movie being produced isn't a rumor. The who, when, where, and all of that, however, is up in the air.

I always felt the Shadow ones dragged on and on and on. Except for Ender's Shadow, they're all basically about trying to defeat Achilles, not be captured/killed by Achilles. Shadow of the Hegemon and Shadow Puppets just take FOREVER. Especially since there's all this stuff about the actual stradegy of the war. They just weren't very enjoyable after a certain point.
I think a movie would ruin the story. Everyone has different visions of the battleroom, and I don't know how they would put off nice 0 gravity. Plus, the kids in the story are supposed to be like 8-13. It'd be really hard to make a good movie out of this..

Well people said the same thing about LOTR and look how that turned out. I think it all comes down to the right studio getting this movie. I personally would be more concerned with the actors since as you said they are all supposed to be kids. The fact of the matter is I don't know if they will be able to find that number of kids with the acting abilities to pull off the emotional levels of the characters in the book.

Well, there is only one company that might be stupid enough to try and make a wacked out version of the book and that is dun dun duuunnnn DISNEY!!!
Yes, the company that dosn't seem very good at making movies reciently would try. But, for something that would bring it to life we turn to dreamworks.
Was shadow of the giant any good? I just found out about it.

It's a crap shoot. I just think that as you said, kids won't be able to portray all the characters..

BTW, Orson Scott Card (who is a member of the LDS church incidentally) is currently writing the Ultimate Iron Man series from Marvel. I've heard it's decent, but I don't read the Ultimate line.
Nor do I read popular Science Fiction anymore. It's all derivative and juvenile IMO. Gimme Philip K. ****, the adult works of Robert Heinlein or Neal Stephenson any day of the week.

I thought it was, but then again, I don't dislike any of the other seven, either. Like I mentioned before, it definitely has some ways it could lead into another sequel, even one combining the two storylines again. The summary on the cover flap is slightly misleading, though.
EDIT: After this original post, I googled Shadow of the Giant, and found this interview, where Orson Scott Card says he's going to write a sequel to put together the two serieses. Here's the link; the most interesting paragraph, where he discusses writing the books, is the last one.

All of them look like they should be great, except maybe those anthologies by other authors.

About the movie, I heard a rumor they were going to cast that little kid from Malcom in the Middle as Ender. I could see that, and he's not a bad actor either.

First of all, did anybody else know that there's abook called First Meetings in the Enderverse, that includes Ender's parents' first meeting, and Ender's first meeting with Jane (I think)?
Also, did you know that they actually sell Dragon Army shirts and ornaments at hatrack.com?
I ordered the book yesterday, and while I don't feel as though I need a Dragon Army t-shirt, it's nice to know they're there.

I just started reading Xenocide, and I'm minorly lost on what books come next. Without spoilers, can someone please list them in order? I am aware that there is a sort of side-series about Bean, so knowing where those fit or if they are totally separate would help. Thanks.

Children of the Mind is the last book in that series, Xenocide is a great book, finish it.

I'm almost done, most likely tomorrow or monday, and will be buying the next book that day or the day after. But what book would that be?
Edit-Okay, I see my mistake. I thought you were telling me the last book of the series and somehow skipping whatever might be between Xenocide and that book. I didn't know that that was the next book in the series for me to read. I did finish the book monday, just bought Children of the Mind today, and i bet i be done friday.
So, once I finish this, I guess I can start the other side of the series, although, I'm still lost in which of that series comes first. Any assistance is appreciated
