They are one of the most innovative bands ever... They created the whole sing-scream formula.

Fear factory is really part of the subgenre nu metal. (Or aggro metal.) I like to think that the "nu" part was derived from gary numan, I don't really know where it comes from but gary numan rules. As far as this type of music goes NIN is the best though. This is the teaser for their new album. (http://nin.com/visuals/with_teeth_teaser.html)

Yeah it's called with teeth, I don't know when it's going to be out but the new single the hand that feeds is hitting the radio on march 21st. Most radio stations have claimed to be playing it already but they're lying. They do that a lot. There are also a lot of fake versions of it on the internet. But the real thing won't be out until march 21st.
I have a friend who's totally obsessed with rammstein, I just think they're ok.

For the record, Fear Factory were metal at one point, before they went in the nu-metal direction with their music.
Nu-metal is used because "Nu" means "no". Essentially: nu-metal, stuff that's called metal when it's not.

It just seemed strange that they would still be around after all these years. They are pretty good, but I thought their era at the top ended a long time ago. Same with all the other industrial metal bands, i.e. Smashing Pumpkins (well, they broke up, but you get my point).

I was never a big fan of Judas Priest so...yeah.
Also, nu metal can be looked as metal as long as you can accept the fact that they would rather play rhythmic melodies without the solos that get in the way. Nu metal is just the newer version of traditional metal. You're right, it isn't metal, but it certainly is a sub-genre of metal.

Yes, it is. Nu-metal is a mis-labeled form of alternative rock.
Take alternative rock + a metal influence of some kind + "X" (random) influence, and you have nu-metal. For example, Korn is alternative rock + metal influence + hip-hop influence. Marilyn Manson is alternative rock + metal influence + industrial influence, etc, etc. I think you get the idea.
Fan of Priest or not, their influence and importance is huge.
And no, it can't be looked at as metal. Solos or not, the music simply isn't any kind of metal. Not to mention, the ideology behind it is different, too. Disreguard the second part if you're one of the people that doesn't feel that genres and sub-genres are defined at least partially by the ideology behind them.

No, no, no. You are completely mixed up on all your arguments.
They have no alternative influences at all. MM has industrial and metal influences, but he is labeled as industrial. Korn has hip hop and metal influences, but labeled as nu metal because of the lack of complicated solos.
I have no disrespect of Judas Priest. I know what they have accomplished. I just said I wasn't a big fan.
The quote, I meant to say it isn't traditional metal, but is certainly a sub-genre OF metal.
You can't deny the fact that it resembles metal in one form or another, it just lacks the ideas of older metal bands.
EDIT:
Towelie guy: Umm...true metal is Metallica (old, the new stuff needs to be looked at seperately), Black Sabbath, Judas Preist (ahem), Ozzy, Zeppelin (not METAL, but one of the first metalish bands), Slayer (thrash metal).

No, I'm not getting my arguments mixed up.
To make it simple: The only way the music resembles metal is that it's heavy, and honestly, being heavy doesn't mean something is metal. Black Flag, Godflesh, etc. are proof of that.

I'm aware that one of those is a hardcore band (I'm not sure what you'd label Godflesh as), I'm not saying that they're part of the same genre as the other band I mentioned. I'm saying that only resemblance nu-metal bands have to real metal is that they're heavy, and being heavy alone doesn't make them metal, as those bands from other genres have proven before since they were heavy, but clearly weren't metal.

No, I didn't. Resembling a genre in some way does not mean a band or bands is part of that genre, so nu-metal resembling metal in a way or two doesn't mean it's part of it. Black Flag had some material that resembled Black Sabbath. Does that mean they're a metal band and not a hardcore punk band? I don't think so. It's the same thing with nu-metal bands And let's not even start with the "ignorant masses say this or that, so it's true..." theory.
Actually, forget it. This argument is going nowhere. Agree to disagree?

In all fairness... thesmartone stole that from my sig (seen below)... all he did was change the name and add a "z". So... it really should be more like "in the immortal words of Konoichi..."
But enough of that. Back to Fear Factory.
I'm not a huge fan of them, but I won't say they aren't decent. I considered buying their CD, which says something. What's that song... something like Archetype or something... I don't know. It's been a while since I've heard it, and I don't own the music... but that's quite an interesting song. Instrumentals run quickly, but the vocals seem to sing a slower song. I like that sort of speed trick.
"Look in to my eyes... and tell me what you see...
something real... THIS is real...
What you wish to be..."
Curious little chorus... meaning is a tad obscure (if existant), but it sure sounds cool. ^_^
As for music classification... I've never been one for genre-hairsplitting... I COULD use those classificational terms, but I choose not to. I simply know what I like when I hear it.
Oh, and for the record: Rammstein ROCKS. Especially when you know German.

Damn, so much arguing over genres of music... Can't we just have MUSIC as the only genre and not ignore music because of it's classification?
Knowing the genres of music makes it alot easier to discuss it with people, since different people like different types of music. And who the hell is ignoring anything based on it's genre....?

I never said you or anyone here was, but if you know anything about modern-day music culture and underground, you'd know that it happens alot.

And there's probably a reason for that...some people just don't like certain genres of music, so it's fair to ignore it, rather than listen to it and hate it. Okay...that wasn't phrased too well, but I think you get what I mean.

Bumped for fanness!
I got their attention through 'Cyberwaste', a brilliant song back in 2004.
There are many good FF songs, but the current album sucks.
