in the 5th book, in the chapter called The Centaur and the Sneak (ch. 27), Fudge says something about a reversal of time, when he's in Dumbledore's office. Was he just making things up (at the time he's listing the sort of excuses Dumbledore might come up with), or was he insinuating that he knew or suspected that someone messed with time back in the 3rd book?

Yeah, that's what I thought. Maybe Fudge somehow learned how Sirius escaped. Or he might have meant it a different way.

Ok let's seeeeeee.
"Oho!" said Fudge, bouncing up and down on the balls of his feet again. "Yes, do let's hear the latest c:eek:ck-and-bull story designed to pull Potter out of trouble! Go on, then, Dumbledore, go on -- Willy Widdershins was lying, was he? Or was it Potter's identical twin in the Hog's Head that day? Or is there the usual simple explanation involving a reversal of time, a dead man coming back to life, and a couple of invisible dementors?"
Sounds like he did know something. I mean, Hermione did say that McGonagall had to pull a few strings with the Ministry to get the time changer thing, right? So Fudge would've probably known about it. . .

Some say that it's a mistake Fudge ever mentioned the reversal of time...
If you think about, it's quite hard to guess whether something has had a time reverse since time reversal is hard to explain in the first place... (am I rambling?)
Anyway... or he could have just pulled it off from the tip of his tongue with no clue at all.

Fudge certainly seems to know something. Maybe he did all along and now he's out of patience.

Fudge definately knew about that. But he had to because like Hermione said "Mcgonagal had to pull a few strings at the ministry." So there is no way that he could not have known seeing as he is the minister of magic and all.

I think he would have to know if Mcgonagall (and i think Dumbledore himself might have helped) had to pull a few strings at the ministry. I mean Fudge and Dumbledore must have worked something out for that because Dumbledore was so respected at that time.

Fudge's safe, orderly world is in danger and he's not capable of handling the situtation. After giving people like Harry and Dumbledore special treatment and turning a blind eye to things, he figuring out that everyone has been running around behind his back. He's not in the loop and he never really wanted to be, and now its biting him in the a--.
