Episode 32: Mechanical Rampage
Joey looked on at the girl, whose entire being was enveloped by the dark aura that was spawned from the souls of the damned. Her black hair whipped wildly around her head and her short skirt fluttered around her hips, just below the waist of her jeans.
“Why are you messing with the power of the Shadow Realm?” Joey asked as he struggled slightly against the wind the girl created with her force.
She looked at Joey through eyes that looked like they would tear up at any given moment as she spoke in a harsh tone. “It doesn’t matter what this power is, or where it came from. All that matters is my revenge!”
Her aura exploded again, leaving the pavement under her scorched and blackened. Joey backed away, deciding that being incinerated wasn’t one of the things he had in mind for his day. The flame-like darkness subsided after a few seconds, and the girl smirked as her countenance changed completely. Her eyes became deep pools of black, drowning out all innocence, regret, or love.
“If you’re so curious about me, then I’ll humor you before I crush you. A month ago, I was to be married. And on the day of my wedding, I caught him. I caught my husband, making love to my best friend. It shattered me completely. I was confused, broken, and on the edge of insanity.”
“And just what does that have anything to do with me?” Joey asked impatiently.
“Shut up and I’ll tell you! One day last week, as I was walking down the street feeling sorry for myself, I felt something that made me more powerful than ever before. It was a force that drew me towards a construction site. The closer I got, the stronger this force grew, and the more my hatred raged. There soon came a voice. It told me, that I could have this power, just as long as I used it. So I did.” A sinister smile spread across Amana's face as she told her story.
“You’re making a huge mistake here. I don’t know who this strange voice is, but I know that the shadow power is not something you want to mess with. It will twist your mind and warp your entire personality,” Joey pleaded.
“I’m not done yet, so be quiet! As I was saying, before I was interrupted, a bond grew between my hate and the power. The more I hated, the stronger I became, until one day I did something about my anger. I killed my ex-fiancé, and his new girlfriend. But I couldn’t stop there, oh no. You see, the power told me all about the women, all around the world who feel my pain all the time. So you see, I must cleanse this planet of all evil, cheating men who break hearts for their own personal gain.”
Joey raised an eyebrow, then, closed his eyes. ‘Well, it’s official. I’m dealing with a nutcase.’ He opened his eyes and shook his head. “That power has too great a hold on you. I’ll free you soon enough, don’t worry.”
“Just shut up and end your turn, so I can put you in hell where you belong.”
-------------------------------------------------
Jason stared down the man standing opposite of him. He couldn’t see into the man’s eyes, due to the dark sunglasses he had on, but he was sure that they registered an arrogant confidence, that Jason himself was almost famous for displaying all the time. “Alright, Bandit Keith. You challenged, so you decide who’s first or second.”
Keith let another grin fall on his features and pointed at Jason. “You can take the first turn, if you feel lucky enough, that is.”
(Jason: 6000) (Bandit Keith: 6000)
“Luck is one of my better strong points, so thank you very much.” He quickly drew his six cards and looked over them. It was an impressive first hand, but he still wasn’t completely sure of what Keith had planned, so he had to be cautious. “One card face down and a monster in defense mode. That’s all from me.”
Jason’s holograms shimmered into place, one vertical, and the next one horizontal. Keith made a smug ‘hmm’ sound and pulled six cards from the top of his deck. He quickly picked out three cards. “I’ll place two cards face down and summon Ground Attacker Bugroth (1500/1000) in attack mode!” The first monster to appear was what appeared to be a piloted mech of some kind that stood on two legs. Two long silver barrels sat on the sides of the monster and gleamed in the sun. “Go, Bugroth, attack his defense monster!”
The twin barrels on the sides of the mech opened, revealing two missiles, which fired with a bang. The projectiles launched at Jason’s face down hologram, and exploded on impact. A tall woman with long purple robes and hair of the same color shattered into particles. “With that, you’ve destroyed my Witch of the Black Forest, whose effect allows me to go through my deck and add to my hand, a monster of 1500 defense points or less. Thanks again, Keith,” Jason said as he ejected his deck.
He went through the cards, and picked out which one he wanted. After placing it in his hand, he shoved the deck back into its slot and Keith ended his turn. Jason drew, but wasn’t completely interested in the card he got at the moment. “I play Harpies Brother (1800/600) in attack mode!” In a shower of lights, the tall winged man appeared and took a fighting stance. “Harpies Brother, attack the Ground Attacker Bugroth!”
The monster flapped its wings and generated a storm of razor sharp gusts to slice Keith’s monster into pieces. But before the attack could reach its target, Ground Attacker Bugroth disappeared. Keith stood behind a face up trap card, laughing. “You ran right into my trap card, Mechanical Upgrade. It allows me to return one machine type monster to my hand, and in exchange, summon a stronger one of the same level. So say hello to Mechanical Chaser (1850/800)!”
Where the Bugroth once stood, now existed a large machine with a round body, sprouting what appeared to be wings. Six arms extended from the body, each with a different weapon. Under the body, protruded a long broadsword, and at the opposite end sat a small round head with a long red sensor for an eye. Upon the appearance of this monster, Jason put two and two together.
“There’s only one person I can think of who plays with Machines like this. I thought the name Bandit Keith sounded familiar. You were the Intercontinental Champion at Duel Monsters, and it took Pegasus J. Crawford himself to dethrone you.”
Keith grimaced at the reminder of his embarrassing loss at the hands of Pegasus. That stunt he pulled with the little boy was beyond dishonorable, and Keith swore his revenge on that cheating snake.
-----------------------------
Bandit Keith had dueled his way to the top, winning against everyone he faced. His final opponent was Pegasus J. Crawford, who was said to be psychic. But Keith was intent on dispelling those rumors. They had played a good duel so far. It wasn’t as exciting because they were playing on a regular table with no holograms. But it was still fun to watch.
“Alright Pegasus, I’ve got you beat, and there’s no way out. Just surrender and this will be easier on the both of us,” Keith said with a smirk. He knew for an absolute infallible fact that he could beat Pegasus, but Keith decided to toy around with his eccentric opponent.
Pegasus only smiled and shook his head, letting his long silver hair shake to the roots, but still manage to cover his left eye completely. The other eye stared at him with one auburn orb burning into the American duelist’s dark pupils. And it would’ve been an extremely intimidating stare if it weren’t for the amused smile plastered on Pegasus’ face. “Keith, you’re just not that much of a challenge. And I’ll prove my point to you and everyone else here.”
Pegasus scribbled something on a piece of paper and looked over to the left. He pointed at a young boy in the audience, and crooked his finger. After a few seconds of looking around in confusion, then realizing that Pegasus was motioning to him, the boy jumped down and walked over. Keith slammed his hands on the table in anger. “Hey, asking for help is illegal!”
“I don’t need help to beat you. A child could beat you, and I’ll prove it.” Pegasus replied in his usual laid-back velvet tone.
Pegasus handed the boy the note and walked over towards the sidelines, where he sat down next to Seto Kaiba. He looked over at the blue-eyed duelist sitting next to him, watching the match intently. “So, this is a pretty exciting tournament, eh, Kaiba-boy?” Kaiba remained silent and stone faced; intent on figuring out what kind of stunt Pegasus was trying to pull.
Meanwhile, the boy looked over the note, and the cards in what used to be Pegasus’ hand. After a few seconds, he looked up at Keith, who had calmed down long enough to realize that Pegasus was just going to make a fool out of himself.
“Okay. Please go easy on me, because I just started playing a week ago,” the boy said uneasily.
“Whatever, kid. Let’s see you try and stop this, Garnecia Elefantis (2400/2000) in attack mode!” Keith declared as he slapped his monster down on the table, then, leaned back with a superior look.
The boy looked down at the card depicting the large elephant-like creature with the long sword. “Ooh, that’s an impressive monster.” He looked down at the note as he spoke. “But the note says when you play that, I should play this.” The boy placed a card on the table that was almost exactly like Garnecia Elefantis, but had many arms, and was charging toward something. Keith’s jaw dropped like a stone and he stared at the card bug-eyed. “Uh, I think I just took away your life points,” the boy said uneasily.
“There’s no way! Give me that!” Keith roared as he snatched the note from the boy. Keith read over it and went into a state of absolute shock. “It’s all here. What I would play, how to beat it, everything!”
Keith dropped to his hands and knees as Pegasus walked over and raised the boy’s hand, declaring him the winner.
-----------------------------------
“Yeah, that was a long time ago! So let’s just get this over with so I can win my rare card and more points along with it!” Keith yelled.
Jason only shook his head and ended his turn. Keith calmed down and drew his next card. “I’ll place another card face down, and use Mechanical Chaser to attack Harpies Brother!”
The spherical machine launched forward, ready to gore Jason’s Winged Beast with its long sword, but Jason was ready. “Reveal face down card, Shrink! This spell card will cut your monster’s attack points in half, making it too weak to get the job done.”
The Mechanical Chaser’s (925/800) size reduced, and it became too weak to destroy Jason’s monster. But as Harpies Brother prepared to launch a counter strike, Keith activated another one of his trap cards.
“Go, Rare Metalmorph! This card will increase my Mechanical Chaser’s attack points by 500 for as long as it stays on the field!” The Mechanical Chaser became outfitted with thick silver armor that increased its power (1425/800), but Jason couldn’t help but laugh at the attempt. However, Keith’s chuckle made Jason stop in his tracks, and the Harpies Brother’s destruction almost caused him to have a heart attack.
(Jason: 5450) (Bandit Keith: 6000)
“Whoops. I guess I forgot to mention that Rare Metalmorph also allows me to negate the effects of any spell card that targets the monster it’s equipped to, but only once. So, I did, and my monster went back to its original attack power, plus the initial 500, bringing it to a nice, comfortable 2350.”
Jason groaned at the sight of Keith’s monster, and the destruction of his. With only one trap card, Keith gained life point, field, and monster advantage. He must have been a top ranked duelist to be able to pull off something like that. ‘Now I have to deal with an even more powerful Mechanical Chaser? Berserk Gorilla (2000/1000) won’t help me now. I guess I’m in for a long duel.’
-------------------------------------------------
Kilam stood in the center of the construction site and looked up at the sky. The clouds rolled by and a few birds flew through the area…until they were dropped dead by a bolt of electricity that seemed to flow from nowhere. The dark man laughed. “Foolish creatures. Even you cannot comprehend the power of the shadows. And once I take back what belongs to me, this whole world will see my power.”
He continued to stare until he heard footsteps crunching on the gravel of the area. Kilam turned around and spotted the girl standing behind him with her DD2 at the ready. She pointed at him. “I challenge you to a duel, so do you accept, or back down?”
Kilam laughed, a small chuckled at first, but then, a roaring belly laugh that sent chills down the girl’s spine. “Little girl, you have no idea what’s in store for you. So here we go!”
The girl stumbled back as a blanket of darkness spread over her and the strange man, who was cackling wildly from about ten feet away from her. The dark blanket completely formed, blocking out all light.
“Where are we? What have you done?!” the girl shouted in a panicked manner. But her shouts of fear were only to be heard by the twisted, sinister man who brought her there.
Kilam opened his DD2 and narrowed his eyes, letting an evil smirk come across his features. He licked his lips and drew five cards. “Let the Shadow Game begin.”
-------------------------------------------------
Joey found himself in a dark situation. The girl standing opposite him in the duel was clearly out of her mind, and Joey had no option but to beat her. “I’m not beat yet, so I’ll summon Swordsman of Landstar (500/1200) in defense mode and end my turn.” Amana laughed as the small pale warrior with its short sword and shield bearing its face appeared, crouching on a floating likeness of its own card.
“If that’s the best you can do, I’ll end you with ease.” She drew and laughed wickedly at her newest card. Whatever it was, Joey would have a hard time stopping it. “Now I play Wave Motion Cannon!” A strange pot-like device materialized in front of the crazed woman. It was fairly mechanical with a lot of dials and switches on the sides. “My spell card will bring your end, I swear it!”
