I was training my pokemon for my team recently, and I have been making sure to max out their ev's before leveling them up with Rare Candies. (I check this by using the woman in Slateport.) My question is: Am I right in assuming that making sure a pokemon's evs are maxed will take away the detrimental effect of using rare candies to level up? Thanks in advance for the help!

[I heard but not sure of that if you gave Pokemon rare candy, the SP Def doesn't raise up good enough. Good stats are +2 and +3, my Ninetails one time had a speed of +5! I couldn't get over it, and I used Quick Attack several times in battles.

When you use rare candies and day care to raise pokemon up you gain levels but not effort points. That's why it is good to do your ev training first, before you use day care and rare candy. You wouldn't want to raise a Lv 50 battle tower team in day care or with rare candies since you'd lose the benefits of getting the stat boosts from EV training.

And remember that as long as you haven't maxed out effort, you can still EV train (even a Lv 100 pokemon, though I've never done it).
