Well, like I said, the story’s not over yet, so it’s back to business as usual. Thus far I have about 18 more episodes completed, and am still far from the end, so here we go with what you could call “season two” (or three if you count Island of Nightmares).

Episode 26: Moving On - Jason’s Challenge

The clouds rolled by slowly in the sky as Jason looked up out the window. It was late in the day, but still a nice day. However, ever since the Shadow Gate incident, the weather had been very strange. On some days the sun shone nicely, but on some days it was completely covered by black clouds and radical lightning storms, but there would be no rain. Jason simply figured that it was just an after effect, so he didn’t bother with it. But even if he could, he didn’t have the Millennium Ring anymore.

“Looks like today will actually be nice. It’ll be a pleasant change from the creepy lightning storms we’ve been having lately.”

Jason glanced over at a picture on his desk. It was a picture of his aunt Cecilia, recently deceased thanks to a certain soul-stealing thief. Jason sighed inwardly as he went back to staring up at the sky. Since he would turn eighteen in the next month, he was allowed to live by himself at the house, which was still a little messy from the police traipsing about and tearing the place apart looking for clues. But he wasn't sure about whether or not he wanted to live on his own.

The doorbell shook Jason out of his concentration on the sky and the past. He got up, went downstairs and opened the front door. A tall man in a black suit and sunglasses appeared at the door. His hair was mostly black, except for the streak of gray that seemed to run around the middle, and a mustache sat above his mouth, which he kept in a tight line.

“Is there a ‘Jason Garnet’ home?” he asked in an officious voice after reading off of a sheet of paper.

“Yeah, you’re looking at him,” Jason replied as he eyed the man slowly and cautiously. “Can I help you?”

His face remained stoic as the man in the suit stiffly extended his arms and handed Jason a large brown package with a clipboard on top. “Sign this.”

Jason looked at the man again, then, picked up the clipboard and signed his name to it with the attached pen. He handed the clipboard back to the man, who gave Jason the package. To his surprise, the package was lighter than its size would’ve caused one to assume. The man looked over the clipboard and tucked it under his arm.

“Have a nice day,” he said with more of his stone-like demeanor.

He turned stiffly and walked toward a limousine that was parked out front. Jason closed the door and walked into the living room where he set the package on the couch. He looked at the front of the simple brown box. It was stamped to him, with his name, address and everything, but what surprised him most was the return address.

“KaibaCorp. Industries?! What would Seto Kaiba want to send me? After I extorted him out of a lot of money using his own Blue Eyes White Dragons, I wouldn’t be surprised if it were a bomb,” Jason griped as he picked up the knife on the end table and began slicing through the tape that held the box flaps together.

Jason carefully opened the package and was greeted by tons and tons of off-white packaging peanuts. He turned the package over and dumped all the peanuts out onto the floor, not worried about the mess it created. Something large fell out and onto his foot causing him to immediately yell out and begin jumping up and down while holding the sore appendage. “Ouch! Son of a… What the hell is this thing?”

Jason picked up the object, which was wrapped in a lot of bubble wrap. After unwrapping it, Jason looked at the object. It was a silvery circular device with a clear screen of some sort on the top. Two slots sat on the device, perpendicular to each other. A black plastic casing covered one slot, and the other was just a slot jutting out slightly from the surface of the disc-like object. Just under the clear screen were five blue buttons and a green one under them.

“Okay, this is definitely weird, and it doesn’t exactly rule out my bomb theory. I wonder what this is, and why Kaiba would send it to me.” Jason flipped the device over and discovered the metal loop on the bottom. He scratched his head and stood in confusion until he remembered the box. “Oh yeah. There might be some instructions or something in here,” Jason said as he picked up the box. He took out more foam peanuts until he reached a small booklet. He held it up and read the title. “Kaiba Corporation Duel Disk version 3.0 Instruction Manual? This is a new Duel Disk?”

Jason immediately slipped the device on his right arm and opened the booklet. He skipped the introduction on the game of Duel Monsters and the KaibaCorp technology and got to the operation of the Duel Disk. He muttered the words to himself, skipping over a few every now and then to get to the part he needed to read.

“‘Congratulations on your purchase of our newest product…culmination of great technological minds…easier, more portable design…ah, here we go! To operate: Slip metal clasp loop located on bottom of Disk over arm just above the wrist so the five blue buttons are facing you, then, press red button under Disk.’ Well, I've got that halfway done.”

Jason turned his arm and the Disk over and pressed the red button in front of him, just under the large metal circle that made up most of the device. The loop clamped down, rather hard on Jason’s wrist, cutting off his circulation. Then, the Disk made a beeping noise, and the loop readjusted and loosened just enough to give Jason his circulation back, but to keep the Disk on his wrist firmly.

“Well, that’s handy. What next?” Jason flipped over to the ‘Duel Disk: Open Position’ section and began reading. “‘To open Disk for duels: Press green button on the main apparatus to extend the holographic projection shaft and card platform. WARNING: When opening Duel Disk, always keep device pointing away from your or anyone else’s body. Keep away from children.’ Gee, that sounds so promising.”

Jason held the Disk up and away from him as far as he could and pressed the button. A thick shaft shot out of the end of the Disk that was facing away from Jason. Then, from both ends of the shaft shot two platforms, the one on the right being slightly longer than the one on the left. On the end of the shaft sat a clear blue bubble with a strange censor eye inside.

Jason looked over the Disk for a few seconds and rubbed his chin. “Okay, now I see. This is a lot like the old Duel Disk.”

Jason pulled his deck out his pocket and placed it in the slot with the black plastic cover over it. The platforms lit up and the clear screen came on, flashing 4000 in bright white lights. The plastic cover adjusted itself to hold Jason’s deck in place. Noting this, the blonde duelist pulled the top card of his deck and placed it on a monster card zone. The strange blue bubble lit up and in a flash of sparks his monster, the Berserk Gorilla (2000/1000) appeared.

“Wow. I’m definitely impressed by this,” Jason said as he walked toward the hologram of the large red ape, which simply stood waiting for a command.

The image looked so real that Jason swore he could touch the monster. He reached out and touched it, but the hologram distorted slightly as his fingers passed through it. He pulled his hand back.

‘Jason calm your nerves. It’s just a hologram, and you can’t touch it,’ he though as he looked at the monster. ‘But one could be easily fooled into thinking they could.’

The boy ran down the alleyway as fast as he could. His panting and his footsteps were the only sound that could be heard as he ran deeper into the shadows of the alley, until he came to a brick wall. He desperately looked around and spotted a dumpster. Hearing more footsteps, the boy jumped behind the dumpster and crouched low. His breathing became rapid and his heart pounded in his chest as the footsteps came closer and closer to the dumpster. They stopped and the boy spent a few moments in silence, waiting for the chance to run again.

Suddenly, the dumpster went flying, careening into the opposite wall, as the boy sat on the ground and stared into the angry black eyes of his stalker. The man’s face contorted into a deprived twisted grin as he spoke with a voice filled with malice. “So, you thought you could get away from me?! Fool, you can’t escape my power! Now behold my wrath!”

The man raised his hand and brought it down, exerting a great amount of force as he did so. The boy was knocked onto his back by the power of the dark man. He looked up at the slowly spreading darkness that appeared above the man’s head.

“W-what are you going to do to me?” the boy asked as he fearfully whimpered.

The man looked down at the boy and smiled with a cruel, twisted glare. He held his arm out and grabbed the boy by the throat. “I’m going to take that which rightfully belongs to me…your soul.”

The boy’s screams were all that could be heard as the blanket of shadows covered the small alley.
-------------------------------------------------

“Dark Magician (2500/2100), attack him directly with Dark Magic Attack!”

The purple clad spellcaster leapt up into the air and pointed his staff at his victim. The monster unleashed a shockwave of dark energy that sent the boy crashing to the ground in defeat.

(Yugi: 2200) (Mitari: 0)

The spiky haired boy walked over to his defeated foe and extended his hand, which the teenage boy gladly took. Yugi pulled him up and the teen smiled. “Wow, that was incredible. So that’s what it’s like to face the great King of Games.”

“Yeah, well, you didn’t do too badly yourself. If it weren’t for my Holy Barrier - Mirror Force trap, you would’ve had me early on,” Yugi said.

“Yeah. Well, since this was a Battle City style duel, I have to give up my rarest card, so here it is, my Mystical Knight of Jackal.”

The boy pulled the monster out of his graveyard and extended it to Yugi, who gently pushed it back to him. “No, you can keep your card. I was just in this for fun.”

The boy smiled at Yugi and placed his card on top of his deck. “Thanks, Yugi. Well, I’ve got to go and study for a test. I’ll see you around.”

The boy offered Yugi a bow and ran off towards the city. Atem appeared behind Yugi in spirit form.

[That was very kind of you, Yugi,] he said, placing his transparent hand on the boy’s shoulder.

‘Yeah, well, I really don’t feel the need to take anyone’s cards. Our deck is fine the way it is. Besides, with the Heart of the Cards on our side, there’s no need to take anyone’s else’s cards for our own.’

A gentle breeze blew through the park as Yugi stood watching the children play. Suddenly, the Millennium Puzzle glowed brightly, and Atem’s face became grim.

‘Pharaoh, is everything okay?’

[No, Yugi. There is a tremendous amount of Shadow energy in the city, but I don’t know where it’s coming from.]

‘Perhaps we should try to find it,’ Yugi suggested. ‘Whatever it is, it might be dangerous.’

[Yes, that’s a good idea,] Atem said.

The pharaoh disappeared back into the Puzzle, and Yugi headed toward the city and the source of the Shadow power that he sensed.

Jason walked down the street with his new Duel Disk strapped to his arm. Some people passing by looked at the device with confusion, but Jason didn’t care. He just wanted to test out his new Disk. He came to the Ihachi Fountain, where a large crowd of people was standing. From the center of the crowd a massive column of flame erupted, followed by shouting.

“Well, if that doesn’t deserve to be investigated, I’ll dive into a tub of rice pudding,” Jason said as he walked toward the crowd.

He made his way through the people, some of them wearing Duel Disks, and looked at the scene. A teenage boy lay on his hands and knees, smoldering in holographic smoke. The girl standing in front of him held her hands on his hips in a triumphant manner. Her spiky red hair was tied back in a ponytail and accented by thin blonde bangs at the sides of her face, and a few blonde streaks running throughout. She wore a sleeveless pink shirt that stopped just short of her navel. The words ‘Fire Starter’ were written across the chest in red. She also had on long black jeans that came down slightly past her ankles and over her black sneakers. A red flame ran down the legs of the jeans.

“So, that was the best you could do, huh? Well, it wasn’t good enough I’m afraid. And now, you owe me your rarest card,” she said coolly.

She sauntered over to the boy and extended her hand. The boy looked up and flung the card, which she caught in one hand. Then, he got up and walked back into the crowd, with his head held low.

“So, who else wants to challenge me? Anyone? Come on, guys. Don’t let the fact that I’ve won eight times in a row discourage you,” she said sarcastically.

The other duelists all looked down at the ground, or at their Duel Disks, anywhere to escape the girl’s triumphant gaze. Jason, however, immediately stepped forward.

“Yeah, you’ve got a challenge right here, babe,” he said as he held up his new Duel Disk.

Some of the people in the audience murmured against Jason’s decision. He could hear their remarks.

“Is he crazy?”

“Does he know who she is?”

“He’s going to get creamed.”

“I feel sorry for his pride.”

The girl simply placed her hand on her hip, and glared at the duelists. “Excuse me! None of you even bothered to step up when I challenged, so you have no right to make remarks.” She turned her focus back on Jason. “Sorry about them. There’s always someone who has something to say.”

“Don’t worry about it. I usually just block the ignorant comments out. So, you look like a pretty tough duelist. What’s your name?”

“It’s Niesha, Niesha Blaze. And you are Jason Garnet, are you not?” she asked as she brushed some blonde bangs out of her face.

Jason steeped back in shock, then, quickly regained his composure. Some of the people in the audience murmured some more about his tournament wins. “How did you know who I am?”

“I was also in the Victory Island Tournament, and I would’ve been in the finals, if it weren’t for the Rare Hunters. But enough talk. It’s time to get down to business.”

She raised her arm and her Duel Disk, which was the original Battle City version, snapped open with a hollow clank. Jason held his circular Disk up in front of him. Niesha and the others looked with curiosity at the strange device as Jason pushed the green button. The shaft shot out and the platform extended, and the other duelists immediately expressed their awe over the strange new Duel Disk.

“Wow, where’d you get that thing?” Niesha asked as she pointed at the fully extended Duel Disk.

Jason smirked and decided not to make Neisha any more jealous than she probably was by telling her where he really got it from. “It was a gift from an old friend of mine. So, how are we going to do this?”

Niesha thought for a moment, then, spoke. “We do this by Battle City rules, 4000 life points, sacrificing monsters, and direct attacks. Oh, and of course, the loser will surrender their rarest card to me…I mean, to the winner.”

Jason grimaced at her statement, and how much he knew that if he were in her position, he would’ve said the exact same thing. ‘Great, I’m dueling a female version of me. Just when I thought this day couldn’t get any weirder than it already was.’ The blonde duelist smirked and raised his Duel Disk. “Alright, Niesha, that sounds good to me. Let’s duel!”
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well, that’s the first of my newest set of episodes. I based the design of the Duel Disk version 3 on the Duel Disk used in Duelist Academy in Yu-gi-oh GX, and the Doom Sliders used by Dartz’s gang. Anyway, I’ll have the next episode up soon.

sounds like the villain in this chapter is a member of the doma group led by dartz because the power of the orichalcos seals people's souls away and i think the boy tried to run away from the power of the orichalcos but sadly he failed muhahahahahaha!
