My favorite manga may have an anime, I don't know. But it's Jing: King of Bandits. Jing is this teenage theif who is to bandits as Kenshin is to samurais and Spike is to anyone who kicks ass!
So far, they've been developing the characters, but its still pretty awesome :D

Yeah Jing got an anime serie.
My favorite mangas include Saint Seiya, Captain Harlock,HunterXHunter, Samurai Deeper Kyo, Shaman King, Love Hina and Hoshin Engi.
I could rant on and on and on about all these cool series, but I won't.

Well my favorite manga is also my favorite anime..Inuyasha.
But my favorite mangas that I am not really into the anime or haven't seen it in the first place are Ranma 1/2, Naruto and I guess Dragonball (though I haven't read as much Dragonball as I have DBZ.)
Most other manga I read is because I have seen the anime first and want to read the manga. :)

*looks above* Even if Kenshin was an anime first why wouldn't they want to make a manga? In any case, yes, Kenshin manga came first.
I haven't been reading as much manga lately as I used to, but my favorite at the moment is Rurouni Kenshin because the anime is great, and the original manga is even better. My favorite used to be Ayashi no Ceres (aka Ceres: Celestial Legend), but the fourth volume wasn't that great, and I kinda lost some interest.

Why'd this get moved?
Anyways, I'm am becoming a bigger manga fan each time I visit the book store. It will always be second to most of the superheroes I've grown up with (that is, if those superheroes ever get out of the craphole they are in now), but who cares about that?
I am reading the DB and DBZ manga, because both greatly surpass their animated counterparts, thankfully, by not piling on one pointless filler after another. Its decent, but not that great. I'm also a fan of Battle Royale, although where I live, I can only find up to volume 4 (how many have come out already? I know there are nine in all but I can't find them).
I've read a little of "Dance Till Tomorrow" an adult manga, and for good reason. I mostly spend my manga fixation reading stuff based on, or the basis for, names I'm familiar with like Tenchi, Digimon, Inu-Yasha, and the DB series.

I'd like to, but I'd rather see the anime for Yami no Matsuei (Descendants of Darkness) first. I saw the first ep of the Grav anime fansubbed, and I wasn't incredibly happy with it. And I don't really want to spoil the manga (although I already know all of Yuki's dark past, not just what was said in book 4).
I love Clamp. LOVE. The only manga by them that I wouldn't want to read is Miyuki-chan in Wonderland. I can't wait for Tsubasa and Gohou Drug to be translated. ^____^
And I think one of the Gravitation remixes is Hiro/Shuichi, isn't it? I'd like to see that the most.
I eagerly await the release of Tokyo Babylon. You have no idea how bad I want to read that series. Behold the angst that is Subaru!

When you read manga do you read titles of animes that you watch or titles of animes that you haven't watch. From reading people's post I would say most people here do the latter. However, with the exception of Ranma 1/2 and certain titles in Shonen Jump I usually watch the anime first and then decide to read the manga (Inuyasha is another exception, it was the manga that got me into the series) When I watch a series I just like to see what got it all started. It is nice to see the original artwork, see the differences from the manga and anime, etc. Usually I even enjoy the manga more because it is more graphic and more mature. I suppose if I read manga for series that I haven't seen the anime I would get to know more series, but I guess I would rather spend money on series I am already interested in.
Here is another question. Does anyone know of any good series that are completed in their manga format. I think I would be more likely to start a new series if I knew it was finished already.

When you read manga do you read titles of animes that you watch or titles of animes that you haven't watch.
That's an interesting question. I never really thought about it, but I do usually pick titles I haven't seen in anime format. Back when anime wasn't very accessible to me I used to pick titles that weren't on tv or in the video rental store because that was the only way I could get a hold of those titles. I didn't (and still don't) like to buy a DVD I didn't know I would like because they are so expensive so I bought manga instead since it was cheaper and you can read some of it before you buy it. Nowadays I usually buy manga that I won't have a chance to watch in anime format either because they haven't been licensed or released in anime (Flame of Recca, Gravitation) or because they don't have an anime version (Clover, Lone Wolf and Cub). Usually the only time I do buy the manga version of a title I've already watched is when the manga is signifigantly different from the anime (Sailor Moon), when the anime doesn't finish the manga's story (Fruits Basket, Rurouni Kenshin) or when I really like the title (Fushigi Yuugi).
Here is another question. Does anyone know of any good series that are completed in their manga format. I think I would be more likely to start a new series if I knew it was finished already.
Magic Knights Rayearth is completed. It's an okay series. It's a little sappy at times and very shojo-ish. If that doesn't bother you, you might like it. I find it to be kinda like Sailor Moon only with less girls and more quest-like in an alternate universe (similar to Inuyasha, Escaflowne, and Fushigi Yuugi). There are two "arcs." The first "arc" is the first three volumes with an incredible twist ending. The last "arc" is another 3 volumes.

Bleach. This is the best Manga I've ever read. I love it.
Flame of Recca. Also great and I got to see the later half of the series, wich is nothing like Yu Yu Hakusho.
Tenjo Tenji. I can't wait to see the anime, even though the artwork sucks.
Busou Renkin. Anyone else think this titles an awful lot like Bleach?
Tsubasa. I thought I'd hate this series since it looked like every CLAMP character in some lame fairy tale. But, I love it.
Shaman King.
Here is another question. Does anyone know of any good series that are completed in their manga format. I think I would be more likely to start a new series if I knew it was finished already.
Bleach and Flame of Recca are the ones I'd recomend the most. Although Bleach isn't completed. It's still a good read.

You wanna know what makes me happy people? I've finally made my first manga purchases. Yay. Anyways. *ahem* Im gonna add these manga series to my list.....
Saiyuki-I find this great in both action and comedy. I enjoyed the details and characters.
Great Teacher Onizuka "aka GTO"- LMAO this series is hillarious. A story bout a punk wanting to become the Greatest Teacher. Pure genius I tell ya. The artwork and shading is great too.
I can't wait to read/buy the next volumes.

Naruto- Interesting powers and characters
NGE- You read it more for the mech battles.
Battle Royale- A worthy manga adaption of an already great film
JoJo's Bizarre Adventure- Gives me something to translate and the powers/battles are some of the most clever and original I've seen
Sailor Mars Dragon
04-16-2004, 01:19 PM
Jing:The King of Bandits is my favorite manga. I can't wait 'til May when they release the next volume. Mix Kenshin, Spike, and a teenager, add a bit of thief, and you get Jing.
Real Bout High School is another good one. Ryoko's quest to become a 'great woman' at the strange High School where fights are common. But there are fights left and right in this, so this should appeal to lot's of people.
FLCL is another great manga. Yes, there is a manga. 2 volumes long, but it still exsists. A lot of stuff in this is different from the anime.
And the last one (for now) is Shaman King. I just started it too, but it's well worth it.

Speaking of Naruto, the 4th book will be out this August. Though if Naruto was a graphic novel only (rather than being on the initial Shonen Jump magazine). Then they'd be around to close to volume 8 or 9

I think I posted this once before... but in any case, my favorite two are .hack//Legend of the Twilight and Rave Master. The books are way too expensive for me to buy in mass, so I get a few every now and then.
Speaking of which, has the Rave Master anime debuted on Cartoon Network yet? I haven't kept up with the schedule lately.

Woah, dead topic...I'm starting to wonder weither I should revive it or not. But, it is in the sticky at the beginning of the forum so I consider it fair game.
The best manga of all time: Monster, by Naoki Urasawa. I haven't known a person who didn't like it after they read it.
Synopsis: Dr. Kenzo Tenma is a man who has it all; Wealth, Fame, a woman about to become his wife, a great job being the head surgeon of a prestigeous hospital, untill the day when two patiens come in. The mayor and a man without such a title. Which does Tenma choose to operate on? "Pick your patiens Wisely", the sly director of the hospital says to Tenma, "All lives are not equal." With fear of losing his job, he works on the mayor, but the other man dies!
Later on, the same situation is brought up, Operate on a famous opera singer, or a nameless boy? Tenma chooses the boy; "All lives ARE equal!", he says. After saving the boy, nine years pass and a string of murders are being commited. A patient is sent into the hospital who knows the identity of the murderer! He simply calls him a "Monster". A few days after, the patient escapes, and Tenma follows...where he then learns the identity of the "Monster"! The truth will shock him forever, and probably you, too!
Trust me, it is even better than I could explain it...It is a true work of art, in my opinion on the level of some great novels released in the past few decades. A great read for anyone who has some appreciation for a great plot, solid characters, and even awesome action.
The seccond best manga would have to be: 20th Century Boys, by Naoki Urasawa (again...!)
Synopsis: A band of young friends make a secret club in the 70's, pretending to save the world from an unknown force at the turn of the 21'st century. However, this is not all false! The world WAS in danger at the turn of the 21'st century, and a group of men saved it from certain destruction! However, what was it that put the world in such danger...? A man who was once part of the group in the 70's, and using the same symbol as that of the group, named "Friend" is starting a cult in the year 1999! Will he bring the near end of the world...? Who is this "Friend", and what are his ambitions?
This is another magnificent story, However I am not finished reading this one as I am with "Monster".
The monster synopsis only gives away the first two or so chapters (In which nothing happens at all, really...) and the 20th century boys synopsis only gives away the first part of the first chapter.
If you are only allowed to read one manga in your life: read monster. You will not be sad that you did.

My favorite anime of all time is:
well, i can't say. Let's count. I love Yu-Gi-Oh! that's why I've worked my a s s off for 1 year nearly and now my yugioh site (look in siggy) is one of the best on the web. I also love the manga Love Hina. It's just soo magical. yea. those two. But then again, the whole entire Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z series rocked!! As well, Chobits kicked serious butt. Not sure. But among those. I love Love Hina at the moment with Yu-Gi-Oh! coming in second.

The best manga I've come across so far is GANTZ. Its pretty bloody and a bit ecchi, but the story is quite original and is packed with unexpected twists.
It's still running in Young Jump and an an anime adaptation has already begun.
I kind of doubt that it will ever make its way to America, but its still a manga that any action fan should check out.

Dear Boys Act 1 and 2
Slam Dunk

Naruto
etc ect..
I dont own much manga but wherever I can find a place that sells it, I take a quick read.
Currently Rurouni Kenshin has to be my favorite. Its much better then the anime and there's no real hardcore filler.
Also, the Jinchuu arc actually takes place and that's a BIG plus in my book. I blew $80.00 for an entire box set of RK Season 3 filler. Nevermore.

SGT. FROG!!!
Come on, it's a Manga... about a Manga Editor's family... and an Alien Frog Specie bent on taking over the world... with the help of the "Lord of Destruction," predicted by Nostradamus to end the world.
Of course, she only really seems to listen to Sgt. Kerero. (sp?)
Oh yeah, and their house is haunted, too.
The randomness is amusing, but it's also written pretty well for a series of random events. I'd say the artwork is about average... maybe slightly better than average.
Oh yeah: and the only reason the Earth HASN'T been destroyed by marauding space frogs? Gundam models. I'm serious. The series is worth a read. I'm surprised I haven't seen more support for it.
Shonen Jump so needs to expand their repetoire a little more. It needs more comedy. YuYu is sprinkled with it... a bit shows up in One Piece, but there isn't a whole lot otherwise. Naruto himself is the only comedic relief in the entire story, it seems. Alas, though, Sgt. Frog is distributed by Tokyopop.
BUT PLEASE, JUMP PEOPLE! WE NEED MORE HUMOR!
My favorite manga is The Kindaichi Case Files :D I like crimes...and in my opinion it is a bit better than Detective Conan

Hmmmmm its been a long time since I posted on this thread. I've needed to updated it for a long while. Anyways here is my renewed Favorite Manga List with explanation for each as well. *in no particular order*
Getbackers- This manga series is downright hillarious in certain moments yet has just the right amount of serious plotlines. The artwork is well done and there is a nice amount of shading as well. The two main characters are hysterical and great all around characters. Most of the characters are quite likable as well.
Initial D- The artwork is quite detailed especially during races. There is an excellent pace of character development as well. The character designs are quite different and unique compared to other manga. The races are quite exciting to look at and there are quite some humorous and dramatic scenes. Btw you can read my manga review of it on the Pojo Anime Site if you want.
Samurai Deeper Kyo- Artwork is really well done just like the previous manga series I have listed. It takes place during the era of the samurai/shogun which is quite nice. There are some actual samurai I know about, but of course they are fantasy versions. It has a lot of well done humor and a tad nice amount of fan service every now and then.
Great Teacher Onizuka- This series is simply put down right hillarious. There are too many scenes in which I can laugh and laugh again after reading it numerous times. The artwork is highly detailed and really nice to look at a couple of times.
Neon Genesis Evangelion- I'm a fan of the anime series so the manga was entertaining for me to read as well. Sadamoto does some excellent artwork/character designs. There are several scenes that aren't in the anime series which can be quite nice to read and focus on. There is also alot more oppurtunities for comedy in the manga version.
Trigun- The artwork is of course nice as I previously stated in everything I've listed so far. There are several differences between the anime series considering the manga was finished after the ending of the tv series.
RahXephon- Its quite humorous and has well a nice dosage of fan service lol. I need to get a chance to see the anime series seeing as how the anime I hear is much better and darker.
Immortal Rain- This manga reminds me way too much of Trigun. Other than that it is a really interesting read for me. The main character is an interesting character I hope to read more about. Its quite humorous and gets extremely dark and twisted as the plot develops.
Ranma 1/2- Its just as funny as watching the tv series cept with less filler.
Love Hina- I need to read more of seeing as how the volumes I've read are so far into the plot already. Its quite humorous and has some excellent character designs.
There are some other manga series I really like as well. Although I've decided to only list the manga series in which I've read quite a fair amount of "2-4 volumes at least". It would be nice if I could read more Battle Royale or Saiyuki.
