Episode 24: Advent of the Demon Army - The Final Draw!
“Mazerra Devil, destroy Osirus and bring me victory!”
Seti’s demon charged forward, ready to strike down the Egyptian god monster and the rest of Jason’s life points with its mighty claws. He smiled as the demon leaped up to deliver the final blow to end Osirus and Jason.
“Open face down card: Jar of Greed!” Jason yelled out at the last minute.
His final face down card flipped and Jason quickly ripped the top card off of his deck, boosting Osirus to 1000 attack and defense points, making it stronger than Seti’s weakened demon. Mazerra hung in front of the massive dragon ready to destroy it, but Osirus opened its huge mouth and incinerated the demon with a blast of energy. Seti growled at his monster’s destruction.
(Jason: 400) (Seti: 6400)
“Damn you, boy! Your refusal to die is becoming the biggest pain in my ass in over 5,000 years!” the spirit screamed out.
“Yeah, I’ve heard something like that before,” Jason replied with a smirk.
Seti started to yell again, but he calmed down and simply picked a card up out of his hand. “This isn’t over, fool. Even if it takes me a hundred millennia, I will kill you. So, I’ll place this monster in defense mode, since Osirus can’t use its ability on face down monsters, and I’ll end my turn.”
Seti’s face down monster appeared and Jason looked to Osirus, hoping that the spirit was bluffing. When the dragon simply floated above the field, Jason just drew for his turn (Osirus: 2000/2000). He looked at the card and smiled.
“I summon Breaker the Magical Warrior (1600+300/1000) in attack mode (Osirus: 1000/1000).”
A tall mage in red armor with a golden trim around some of the edges appeared on the field. His cloak fluttered slightly as he held his sword to his chest. A strange orb on his sword glowed.
“I remember your Archfiends and the Lair of the 10,000 Demon Lords now. You have to pay certain amounts of life points to maintain the Archfiends, but not while that field card is active. Well, my magical warrior will fix that. Breaker, use your spell counter to target and destroy the Lair of the 10,000 Demon Lords!”
The glowing orb on his sword extended, causing the entire blade to glow. Yugi’s monster hurled the sword at the field, slicing through the spires and rocky structures as if they were paper. Seti’s entire surrounding shattered like glass and Breaker’s sword returned like a boomerang. The dark spirit grimaced as he held two Archfiends in his hand that he would have to pay for now.
“Now, I’ll place a card face down (Osirus: 0/0) and end my turn.”
Seti drew, knowing that the face down card was a trap to stop him from attacking the weakened Osirus. But even then, he had to rid the field of that god card.
“I’ll set a card face down and summon Giant Orc (2200/0) in attack mode!”
A giant gray ogre charged through the shadows with ground-shaking footsteps. He swung his massive bone club around onto his shoulder. The Egyptian god went to work, unleashing the blast from its second mouth and cutting Giant Orc down to a sparse 200 attack power. But that was just enough.
“Giant Orc, attack Osirus!”
The muscular ogre charged at the Egyptian god and swung its club around, slamming the bone into the dragon’s jaw. Osirus fell and hit the ground with a great crash, then, shattered into pieces.
(Jason: 200) (Seti: 6600)
“I see you didn’t fall for my bluff that time,” Jason said casually.
“I’m smarter than you think,” Seti replied, though he knew that he just rushed head first into the attack.
The spirit ended his turn and Jason drew. He didn’t draw anything good to rebound from Osirus’ destruction, but he didn’t need to.
“I suppose you’re right, but the only reason I have this face down is because I figured that you’ll eventually draw something to take out Osirus, so allow me to introduce you to my trap card, Dark Renewal!”
The card flipped up and a large red coffin floated out from it. It rose up until it was standing vertically, and the large golden cross on the front split down the middle, opening the casket. A red beam of energy absorbed Jason’s face down monster and Seti’s face down monster into the coffin, then, the two lid halves slammed shut.
“What have you done?” Seti asked.
“I was hoping you would ask. My Dark Renewal sacrifices one of your monsters and one of mine. In return, I get to revive one Spellcaster from the graveyard. So welcome back Dark Magician Girl (2000/1700)!”
The coffin opened with a blaze of purple energy and a young blonde woman dressed in a tight blue top and short pink skirt with a pointed wizard’s cap stepped out. She twirled her staff and winked at both duelists before taking her place on the field.
“Dark Magician Girl?! Where did she come from? I never sent her to the graveyard!” Seti yelled out.
“You need to pay more attention to what you do. She was one of the three cards that your Mazerra Devil was so gracious enough to discard from my hand. So now, Dark Magician Girl, destroy the Giant Orc!” The girl raised her staff and blasted the monster with a flash of dark energy, shattering it. Seti simply scoffed. “Now, I’ll switch Breaker to defense mode. You’re lucky that your Orc went to defense mode after it attacked due to its effect, but you won’t be so lucky next turn.”
“We’ll see,” Seti said as he drew. A smile crossed his face as he held up his card. “I think you’ll recognize this next monster, the Archfiend Soldier (1900/1500) in attack mode!” The purple skinned demon reappeared on the field and swung its sword around. “Next, I’ll activate my face down Archfiend’s Roar. I think you remember what this card does, so without further ado, I revive Terrorking Archfiend (2000/1600)!”
(Jason: 200) (Seti: 6100)
The winged demon king rose from the ground with a triumphant roar, ready to strike down Jason’s monsters. The blonde wondered what Seti could have up his sleeve as the spirit held up one final card.
“And now, for my victory. Here’s a card you’ll recognize easily. Checkmate!” The Archfiend Soldier was immediately run through by the Terrorking’s sword as Jason realized what was about to happen. “With no cards face down, I know you can’t stop me this time. So, Terrorking, attack him directly and end his miserable life!”
The Archfiend king leaped up over Dark Magician Girl and Breaker and raised its sword preparing to strike the final blow of the duel. The demon swung the sword down towards Yugi’s head.
“It’s over! The darkness has prevailed!” Seti screamed out as Terrorking slashed.
But his celebration was cut short as the demon’s sword made contact with something other than Yugi’s flesh. It made contact with a small, brown, furry creature with big yellow eyes, that stopped the blade in its tiny green paws with Herculean strength before it reached Jason.
“This duel isn’t over yet, Seti,” Jason said as he held up the card in his hand. “Say hello to Kuriboh (300/200). When I discard him from my hand, I can reduce any life point damage that I take from battle to zero.”
Seti’s frustration was beginning to show. The throbbing vein that appeared in his forehead next to the Eye of Horus looked as if though it would burst at any second. He gritted his teeth and narrowed his eyes.
“You will die,” he repeated grimly.
The spirit set one card face down and ended his turn and Terrorking returned to the graveyard. Jason drew and realized that he needed better options than what he had.
‘I need to finish him soon. The shadows are still draining me of my energy, even though I’ve got this boost from the Puzzle. I could switch Breaker into attack mode, but then a stronger monster could destroy him, and I’d lose. I’ll have to increase my options.’ “I’ll take this opportunity to remind you that my Wormhole of Magic Revival is still in play, so I’ll use it to bring back Card of Sanctity!”
The brown backed hologram came up through the vortex. Seti and Jason each drew five cards from their decks. Together they thought,
‘Now this is more like it.’
“I’ll activate Jewel of the Wise. When Dark Magician Girl is on the field, I can summon Dark Magician from my deck, so welcome to the duel Dark Magician (2500/2100)!” The holographic card appeared on the field and the purple armor clad mage leaped from it and took its place next to Dark Magician Girl. “Now, my Spellcasters, attack Seti’s life points directly!”
The two mages prepared to strike with all of their power, but Seti activated his face down trap to save himself, and make the gap between his life points and Jason’s a little wider.
“I activate my Shield of Reduction trap card! It stops your attack and cuts your life points in half!”
The mages blasted the shield with their magical energies, and the wall reflected them back at Jason, draining him of more life points.
(Jason: 100) (Seti: 6100)
“A pathetic stall tactic from you? You’re slipping, Seti,” Jason said.
Seti pulled the top card from his deck, bringing his hand to seven cards. The most evil, twisted smile ever formed graced the spirit’s face as he looked at the card.
“This is the beginning of the end for you. I activate the spell card Gathering of the Demon Army! It allows me to remove Demons from play and in return summon Demons from my hand whose level stars are equal to or less than those of the Demons I removed.”
Jason gulped as Seti made his big play.
“I remove Skull Archfiend of the Lightning (6 stars), Shadowknight Archfiend (4 stars), Infernalqueen Archfiend (4 stars) and Mazerra Devil (8 stars). And in exchange, I’ll summon Dark Ruler Hades (2450/1600), The Earl of Demise (2000/700), another Skull Archfiend of the Lightning (2500/1200), and another Terrorking Archfiend (2000/1600)!”
In an ungodly blaze of power a massive green skinned demon with long curved horns appeared on the field, swirling a glass of blood in one hand. Then next to it, rose a rotting corpse in an old suit, wielding a long rapier. Then, appeared another Summoned Skull-like Archfiend, and finally the winged, cloaked demon king materialized through the darkness. Sweat began to form on Yugi’s brow as Jason stared down the demon army. But Seti wasn’t done.
“Now, I’ll remove Archfiend Soldier, The Earthbound Spirit, and Desrook Archfiend from play to summon my creature of ultimate darkness, Dark Necrofear (2200/2800)!”
The three monsters appeared in spirit form above the field, then, shattered into purple shards. The shards reformed into a ball of purple light that floated past Jason and took the form of a tall blue-skinned creature, which was almost female in appearance save for the pointed ears and bald head. She cradled a broken doll baby in one arm. Seti laughed manically as each of his monsters roared, screeched, or screamed in some way.
“I would destroy you now with all this power, but my Gathering of the Demon Army prevents me from attacking during this turn. So next turn, I’ll take you down in one all-out hell-fire demon blitzkrieg!”
Yugi’s heart pounded in his chest. Jason knew that there was nothing in his hand that was powerful enough to take down all those demons at once. He started to draw, but something stopped him. He could feel another presence gathering strength in him. Yugi was calling to him from inside the Puzzle. The boy and Atem appeared next to Jason in spirit form, and Jason duelist chuckled embarrassedly.
“Hey guys. I hope you’re not too mad about my taking over your body and everything.”
“Not as long as we beat Seti Bakura. We’re just glad to see you alive,” Yugi responded with a smile.
The dark spirit quickly grew impatient with the little reunion that was going on across from him. “Fools! You can catch up on olden days as you burn in the hellish torment of the shadows for the rest of eternity. So draw your final card so I can end you!”
The three looked at him, then, at Yugi’s deck.
“Jason. This is it. This is where you must trust in the Heart of the Cards,” Atem said. “Take faith in us and in our deck and there’s nothing you can’t do.”
The blonde stared at the deck in front of him and shrugged. “Well, I’ve tried everything else. Heart of the Cards it is.”
The three closed their eyes and together drew what every one of them knew was going to be the final card of the duel. This was it. The one card to determine victory or defeat, good or evil, light or darkness, was now sitting in Yugi’s hands.

Well, that’s episode 24. The exciting conclusion to this duel will be here shortly.
